It's the same rules for everyone. Any US person can move there and start a business. If you bring jobs they reward you with tax breaks. If you come and take a job they will tax you. Makes sense to me. Also, keep in mind they are paying 4% tax on their business income and 30% on their personal salaries. That might seem small but it's 4% of a large number and the alternative is people stay in the states and PR gets nothing. People are not just moving to PR on their own they need an incentive. Why not bring in people who are going to create jobs, hire house keepers, acountants, lawyers, build nice homes and boost the economy? When workers have more jobs to choose from that puts upward pressure on wages, everyone wins.

Making people move out of their residency to make the building an Airbnb for more money. @@CoolGobyFish I actually didn’t know you get tax when you mine and when you sell(if there’s profit) I had to look it up. I thought it was only when you sell. But I get your point it does seem unfair and without the technicality you are basically getting taxed twice. So if you mined crypto and sent it to a private wallet before sending it to an exchange to sell it would the irs really know what the value was at the time when it was mined without looking at the blockchain you could hypothetically say it was mined at a higher price and never increased in value right? You could even hypothetically say the wallet sending you crypto was payment for goods or services. who is they? You don't know what you're talkin about. Statehood is the decision of Puerto Ricans not the federal government. Do a little research on the topic before you come out with ridiculous claims. A statehood referendum has come up to Puerto Rican voters three, distinct times and all three times they voted against statehood. Ultimately, Puerto Ricans want all the benefits that come with Federal funding of full statehood, but they don't want to pay federal income tax. It doesn't work that way. If they want the benefits of our tax system then they need to kick into it, no matter what ignoramuses like AOC say....PERIOD. At the moment, the political party in control of Puerto Rico is happy with the current arrangement, and has declined adoption into statehood. They are literally called the status quo party. It works for them. their choice, that's how democracy works. And our federal government is very happy with this arrangement, because Puerto Rico would be a very expensive state to maintain considering that they don't have any natural resources of Their Own including an adequate supply of freshwater. " in this land of Fun and Sun we don't flush for number one" meaning they only flush poop because water is so expensive there. They have no Lakes or rivers, among other issues like vulnerability to hurricanes and tropical storms and a very basic level of infrastructure. If they become a state, it will break the bank to bring that Island up to standard. Even if they democratically voted to become a state, that doesn't guarantee that they will get Federal approval and be adopted, although my best guess is that it will likely happen at that stage, but it's not guaranteed.
