Plus there are distraction tools, you can throw random things and the AI will get distracted by it. I mean, the most fun way to stealth in the game is to mix it in with really aggressive moves, like stealthing in mid-air after a strength jump over a fence, get into cover, pick up a random heavy object and throw it at someone, go back into stealth mode and go to the other side of the building, toss a grenade, speed run to a vehicle, crash vehicle into a building, enter stealth mode to get to a proper distance, shoot the gas tank on the vehicle, etc

"No detection meter" Dude look on the left side of your minimap... The biggest problem this game has is the PC controls are botched. No lean, no grenade quick throw, no suit shortcuts from original game. Armor mode used to be default mode, it didn't drain your energy, and strength mode did drain energy per shot but gave your better accuracy and you can throw grenades further. This "remaster" totally botches the original playstyle. I can tell whoever is playing a big noob, shooting in cloak drains all of your energy, you need to switch suit modes but it's not as intuitive anymore. Also vegetation physics are missing on explosions.

Testify, your review is spot on. I especially miss the lean and crouch. Now you need to stop, crouch and them move forward. Also no speed mode crawl. Sure the gun is much more accurate, but I miss waiting for that exact moment for your sights to line up for that long distance head shot.

As famous/infamous as this game is within the gamer community, I'm more than a little surprised that they didn't give it the full remake treatment from the ground up to bring it up-to-snuff with the Crysis 3 visuals and quality of life improvements a la Shadow of the Colossus or, more appropriately, HALO Anniversary. Just boosting it to 4K and releasing it on consoles feels like a quiet cash grab. And that's likely why it got so little fanfare; because if it had gotten press, I think that they knew that the fanbase would have expected them to do more.

The remaster project was nothing more than a quick revenue-generator. The studio is bad now. The owners of the Crysis IP will keep licensing it out. They will also keep saying new sequels are built for PC enthusiasts, but you just know they will try to appeal to as broad an audience as possible. I’ll probably Pirate Crysis 4 first if the reviews do not look totally astro-turfed. If Crysis 1 was released as-is today, it would have a huge player base because there is an even larger market for PC FPS games. Crysis did amazingly well for being released at the same time as other great FPS games. Maybe Crytek realized they cannot give us a map editor because there would be no way to charge microtransactions. Anyone who was online during the peak of Crysis Wars can attest that the game was nearly-perfect.

In the hordes of people saying "this doesn't look like a remaster!"/"the original looks better!" Lemme give my two cents: Yes, this game does look better, a lot better than the original. The lighting has improved a lot. You can easily make it look better than the original even on lower graphical settings. However, the main issues we have are: 1. We expected more. Yes the game looks *better*, but not *good enough*. There are still low poly models and stretched textures. 2. The game is horribly optimized. It still relies heavily on a single core while leaving the other cores underused, just like the original. This is incredibly stupid. We want a game that can't run on modern hardware because it's so BEAUTIFUL, not because it's poorly optimized. 3. There are free mods for the original that make it look on par with or better than this remaster.

3:30 Uh... the original didn't have leaning either. I have it open right now looking at the control options and it's not there. edit: It has cover leaning, where you stand next to a corner and ADS... did you try that? I mostly agree with your assessment that it's just a pretty standard FPS shooter, but at release it did have some noteworthy achievements aside from the graphics: 1) Mobility involved a LOT more than just "running really fast and jumping really high." You can also climb over almost everything, which was basically unheard of for FPS games at the time. Climbing requires/allows for much more open level design because you can't use cheesy waist-high barriers to railroad the player. Another part of the mobility that I personally loved was the baseball slide. Not only does it look and feel cool to do, it's actually useful to slide down a hill or into an enemy. 2) As eluded to, the open level design. Again, not completely novel, just like good graphics weren't novel, but Crysis pulled out the stops on everything. That's what made it a great game. The levels were just really well designed, mostly-open sandboxes and you had a lot of great mechanics to play with between the suit, the (way above average) AI, and the environment. 3) Physics. Nobody really remembers Crysis for the physics because other games did it better (HL2, Bad Company), but it was no slouch. You could literally saw down trees with a spray of bullets and try to drop them on clusters of enemies or use it for a bit of cover. You could pick up stuff and throw it, blow apart little shacks, or just punch through them with your suit. Lots of other little examples I can't remember off the top of my head. Overall Crysis was just the ultimate FPS power fantasy, and it had some of the best open-ended gameplay of the time. I've always loved stealth games, so I played it very sneaky and used cloak a lot. That type of stealth shooter gameplay only works really well if the AI is smart enough to make it challenging. Crysis did an excellent job of making you feel like the Predator, or the Terminator whenever you want. It was also pretty fun to play CTF in multiplayer, back when I had the twitchiness for that kind of thing... (I'm so jealous of kids with their battle royale games today. If I was 10 years younger that chicken dinner would be mine).

Crysis will never look like a 2020 game without being remade. But for what i can see in this video the game still look pretty in this remaster, and finally it's impressive when you think this game is 13 years old. But maybe it's a good choice for people that did'nt have the game and never played it. Looking back, I think I finally realized something about Crysis: Although its visual fidelity is top notch to this very day, it has no art design to speak of; it looks absolutely bland, monotonous and devoid of personality. It reminds me of those hyper-realistic drawings that seem to exist for no other reason than for people to say "look how realistic it is". I mean yes, it looks photorealistic -- so what? It still looks bland and uninteresting and has about the same artistic merit as a photo you took with your phone. For the sake of reference, Far Cry 2 came out roughly a year after Crysis while most certainly not on the same level technically, it has aged much more gracefully than Crysis because its world is actually vibrant, colorful and full of personality. Seriously, look up a screenshot of Crysis then one of Far Cry 2 -- the difference is night and day and fully illustrates how "realism" ages terribly when there's no actual art style to back it up.

Graphics and jankiness aside, this game is pretty fun. Personally, I’ve never had the opportunity to play it before, the closest thing being Crysis 2, and I can say it’s a better game than its sequel. The open ended missions, the neat combat loop, and the on the fly weapon customization just makes it so engaging. Sure, the AI is a bit questionable, but this could be fixed with another installment in the series. With that being said, I’d like to see Crytek bring this game back and really play on the strengths of this game, while improving other aspects that need touched up. Crysis has the potential to stand amongst other FPS giants, it just needs some love. Hopefully this remaster is an indication that they’re brining it back and taking Crysis 1 in mind.

I started playing the old crysis again since the remaster launch. First thing I did was add the rygel textures and black fire mod. The optimization and low frames aside, the modded version looks way better than the remaster. But, the low fps issues are a big issue. I'm getting 15-20fps. Eye strain after a while due to the jitters and stutters. Crysis 3 runs way smoother.
