I ice fished on that lake about 20 yrs ago. A rare winter , the lake was frozen 18” thick. I had to hike into the lake. It’s been a while since I’ve been there. Crystal lake is the only natural lake in the San Gabriel mountains. It’s fed by a natural spring and snow run off. 😊

I love seeing Crystal Lake full and beautiful like it used to be in the 70's. The last time my husband and I visited was 2014 or 2015. It looked like a dirty mossy mud puddle back then. Such a sad sight to see. My husband passed away in 2016 from leukemia. I wish he could see Crystal Lake as it looks in your video! Thank you so much for sharing the beauty!!! This looks more like it used to look!! ❤

Your description of how it looked for a while is spot on just a muddy bog. But the rain has definitely transformed it into a little piece of paradise again. Hopefully you can get back up there and revisit some memories.

I never lived in SoCal, so I've visited Crystal Lake only twice. I know it only as a dirty mossy mud puddle. The hiking was much better than the lake, and that's a nice stroll from the campground to the lake. It is so nice to at least see a recent video of Crystal Lake when it's full! Love the frogs.

I have only been to Crystal Lake once, and it looked like an acid pit at the time. Good to see it has water again.

The last time I saw Crystal Lake that full was when I was 11 years old (and I am 50 now). I am happy that it will once again be full this year as well and even spill over.

There seemed to be quite a bit of fish in the lake. There were a few people fishing the banks and all seemed to be having some luck.

Crystal Lake is the only natural lake in the San Gabriel Mountains. We had proposed a restoration in the late 1990's but the Angeles National Forest is only interested in their rental income from the transmission towers on Mount Wilson. Historically a pipeline from an uphill spring provided some water but the pipe broke long ago. Angeles National Forest has no interest in developing new usages because they would prefer a forest without people.

When I was a kid in the 50s and 60s, going to Crystal Lake was a thing. So was the Salton Sea, lol. In the 90s I went to Crystal Lake and it was nothing but an ugly puddle.
