@@mikeodonnell6231It can be a combination of both. Drugs do everyone the same, but you have to do the drugs for that to happen. Everyone has the potential for addiction, but if your brain is in an aversive state before you use drugs, the midbrain (survival center) will record drug use as a more significant behavior and, thus, signal you to repeat the behavior. If you’re low on cortisol (which helps you handle stress) or too high in it, if you’ve experienced a loss or hardship, etc. it creates such a state. I completely agree that you can be rich and develop an addiction. Maybe your parents are more concerned about their image than their kids and say you’re a disgrace if you don’t excel at everything and have properly manners, share their attitudes, etc. They might be abusive or neglectful. Unhealthy behavior is equal opportunity and that can put a child in a world of pain that makes them want to feel better, somehow. You could just try drugs because they seem fun, do them every day and get addicted, but most people get tired of the consequences and quit, if it doesn’t feel like a necessity. It’s more accurate to say that addiction does everyone the same. Some get addicted and some don’t. If you want to predict who, trauma is a really good indicator .

What people seldom understand about addiction is that the substance becomes a god to you of sorts. The most twisted part about it is that you become aware of how far you can fall. That movie Hellraiser is an allegory to how relentless addiction can be. A literal living nightmare. I hope Erin can break free.

I know her. Watching this is heart breaking. We grew up like cousins almost. Her mom was best friends with my mom. Her dad was a piece of shit and the reason my mom last that friendship. We took in her sister Nikki for a while when I was about 10 until she chose to run away from our house. That devastated me. I cried like a baby and still remember the visual of her walking out our front door because even at that tender age I was aware of why we took her in and I knew her leaving meant I would prob never see her again. I miss them both so much. Erin if you see this comment, it’s LaLa. Please take the help being offered. We, especially my mom, would love to have u back in our lives.
