Human suffering is one of the hardest things about being alive. Whether it's at the hands of others or your own mind I don't know how we are not more empathetic as humans ourselves, to others. People who judge and don't understand addiction look at it so simply as a choice when it is in fact a disease plagued by trauma and tragedy. I've seen it, I've experienced it and I've learned from others just how complex it is. The root of the problem starts before you ever touch that drug and it's sad people don't understand that. It's no excuse but people have reasons and maybe you don't agree with that, but the least we could do is try to understand it and then maybe we could do more in helping rid of this disease and help others live the lives they deserve, free of suffering.

Great talk Leo. U remind me a lot of me. I get it that for us we can’t help other till we have helped ourselves. I feel like this a lot. Think I’m running in a line towards my sanity. Only to find ten years gone byn my idea of sanity has changed a lil but most of my running was all in place. N ten years gone. What I’m trying is to put my sanity aside enough times a week to ‘be there’ - to listen, think, assist - for people in n around my life. Has turned out there’s things I can do that are meaningful in other peoples lives. Things that give me the-heebie-jeebies stop do for myself. And there is reward for me in this. I guess ur short on resources. Me too. But here’s the last word. Be on the lookout for where u can add some positivity or lessen someone else’s suffering by whatever means u can contribute. Help ur wife too. But wife’s more complicated😅 Best to you Leo. Enjoyed your company this afternoon. Rock on n take good care!!

If you took a poll of people who use drugs or have used drugs in the past I bet that about 85% have had childhood trauma including myself. There are some sick people out there. People who molest kids are pure evil. They corrupt lives and that in and of itself is a special kind of evil that deserve harsh punishment.

Child molesters destroy innocence. Most people in jail were molested. Molesters are victims of molestation. Those who don't continue the abuse, by becoming abusers, are traumatized, like this man. Molesters will molest to rob the innocence of a child, just as theirs was stolen. Being a survivor myself, I'd prefer the trauma than to hurt a child in order to hide the shame, the dearh of the heart . Its shame and guilt. This man kept his heart, its why he would never molest a child.

Watching Marks interviews helps me to see and understand some people’s situations better. I can understand what he means by he doesn’t know how to be normal and that it scares him living a life without drugs. Imagine going from numbing yourself every day for the majority of your life to re-learn how to do every day-habits sober, facing the fear of having to “feel again” without the option of numbing yourself, being a new person in an old situation, dealing with the shame for the damage they caused to themselves and others while using, to have to fight for their lives everyday in ways most of the “normal” people wouldn’t understand. Don’t let the past steal your present Leo, I wish you all the best.

My father was also molested at a young age (8yo). He wrestled with it also, and fell into drugs and drinking. He eventually began to heal it, by speaking about it and helping others who had also been molested as children. Leo, thank you so much for speaking about it. It can feel very shameful, but as you said it is never a kid's fault. Speaking about it will help other men speak out and begin to heal also. I hope that one day we can all come together to get much longer sentences for child rapists, as well as make victims - especially children - less afraid to speak out. I hope you can see that sexual abuse does not, should not define your life. Our bodies naturally respond to stimulation. It is nothing to be ashamed of. The shame belongs to the adult who exploits it in an unwitting child for their own personal sexual gratification. Addressing it as an adult will help you in recovery of your addiction to numb yourself of any thoughts that somehow you were responsible for the abuse that happened to you as a child. Wishing you a speedy recovery from your past to your waiting future, sober and loving yourself.

Poly drug addiction is so scary. It's not just the one drug U are stuck on. It's which one do u need the most.... I've kicked the drinking and the crack and cocaine do not serve me well at all. But the opioids grabbed me and still has a grip. I'm on a subutex maintenance drug. Most people use it to get off heroine. I've been on it for three years. It keeps me from running to the streets. I feel good about were I'm at but it's not enough for my husband. He wants me to be ready but I know I'm not and the shame of telling your kids why dad won't let you come home.

First off: GREAT JOB for choosing to get on the Sub, that's a massive accomplishment. It sounds like your husband might want to do some homework (or better yet, therapy/counseling/whatever) to learn more about the incredible benefits of your replacement therapy. "Someone I know" has been on a small and stabilizing dose for 14 years, and they have not touched an illicit drug since. A lot of folks compare MAT to diabetics and their need for insulin. If it's keeping you on the straight and narrow, then fuck the stigma. Good luck!

Your husband doesn’t understand that it’s no different then you needing insulin if Diabetic. If you need to be on it you need to be on it and he needs to get educated. He should be supportive and happy your sober and taking meds as prescribed. I’ve been on maintenance for 17 years and I will likely be till I die because that is the safest option for me. You being well is the most important thing and he should never as you to jeopardize that just because of his insecurities about it. Proud of you.

He is the epitome of an addict who firmly believes that he’s using the drugs and that the drugs aren’t controlling him. It’s the vicious cycle …the “functioning” addict’s constant rationalization and thought process. I know- I have been there. Like many addicts, he’s such a solid guy with so much potential battling internal wars. Addiction- very often the fear of pain we humans don’t know what to do with. 💔

You just don't have self control. Most people who use drugs don't get addicted, those are the real statistics. If everybody got addicted then the usage statistics would align with the addiction/overdose statistics, but that's just not the case. You just never hear about the "normal" stories because negativity thrives online and everybody wants to feel like they're above other people so they enjoy watching people in a worse place than them. The people who appear on this channel are in the MINORITY. They do not represent drug users. They represent the worst of the worst in LA.

I know I'm late to this video being posted, but Leo... YOU ARE A MAN. I'm so SO proud that you can tell your story and bring awareness to the traumas both women and men (and everyone in between) face as children. I feel like a lot of men don't speak about what happens to them out of fear they aren't "man enough". None of the trauma you experienced was because of anything you did. Thank you for sharing your story

Is the most accurate depiction of how trauma gives us obstacles we’re not ready to overcome and it deteriorates spirit to the point where it’s admirable that no matter how hard Leo’s life was to this point, he managed to step above the wrongdoings he had to endure from other people and a big part of himself. We need to crack down hard on child molesters. Way too many adults are getting away with ruining childrens lives-for life. It sickens me. Parents need to start talking to their children about pedophiles and never keeping secrets. Different family members should ask their children (at random times )if anyone has touched them. We need to change our thinking. I can’t understand why there are people in jail for weed while known (and unknown) child molesters roam the street.
@cynthiaconnors183

I agree. However, you and your children can trust and love each other to the moon and back, teach your children to not be ashamed and speak out if someone is attempting to harm them or has harmed them, you can do everything right...but...if a predator threatens the family to the child, they won't speak up. Happened to one of my daughters at the hands of a cousin repeatedly over time, in the cousin's family home. With people in the house. If you have a relative, even if they're in their teens, and that relative wants a ton of alone time with your child and leaves everyone else out...THAT'S A HUGE RED FLAG. Now I know it. My daughter didn't speak about it until she became an adult. She suffered with it for years afraid to talk.

I really 100% percent believe we need to legalize drugs. The reason why is some of the most vulnerable are caught up in the drug world and are preyed upon by the predators. You legalize drugs, regulate it, tax it and you strip the underground market of its hold over the most vulnerable. Just my opinion. This is stuff I noticed while I was out there.

Mark - I was dating a man who was a drug addict for many years. We met when we were 23. Your videos helped me understand addiction and how to offer support. I became more understanding of his background and how it's affected him. Eventually his toxicity poisoned my 32 year old life, I was emotionally and physically abused. One day I woke up and it was finally the end. I have peace of mind that I did everything in my power to help him and I've got you and the persons you've interviewed to thank for that. Oh man there is no way I can look at the drug addicted and not see the abused children of yesteryear, playing a game of torture and relief. Never be embarrassed and you can heal. What a world. It’s hard to get abused and not abuse the next person if you can have a history of abuse and never hurt and abuse anyone but yourself, that’s admirable.

I wish at schools they would teach how to deal with such traumas and problems instead of some useless subjects. If only he had a chance to cure his trauma and pain, if only there was a therapist helping this little 5 year old kid, this person might have been a very successful person in what he wanted in life. I can confidently say 99 percent of the people around me were molested or raped in some and different degrees and u know doesn't matter how they live but they struggle with it always inside and it effects on their quality of life,relationships and .... You are strong and i hope you'll find yourself ready to quit. Thanks for sharing your story.

Eating and sleeping are the most important thing in a "maintenance" or regular meth habit....as crazy as that sounds. It's possible to live a functioning life. Not forever and it's not always easy. But those things make the difference between a man like this and the wide eyed, hair pulled, incoherent people pulling the wheels off the city bus as it rolls around town..... Psychosis is a terrifying event, horribly unpredictable and dangerous.
