Thankyou, your channel is never dull, even your uploaded non working experiments are a gem! cheers... 😎✌

When I made my first version of the tuned loop antenna, I made a math error and had way too many turns. A 4 foot loop with 4 or 5 turns is about right. Many of the diodes I have in stock don't work for xtal radios

The cold war Crystal radios are cool, i have a couple of them but not the rocket style radio. The only way to learn about something in the radio/CB/Ham shortwave hobby is to experiment and watch things go up in smoke.🤣👍🔥💨

I had one of those rocket radios! We had a barbed wire fence for our cows mounted on cedar posts that made a great antenna or ground (I don't remember which).

Iam sure that fence would be great for both Ground or Antenna!!!🤠👍

Probably an antenna. There are antenna types that require no "ground", the simplest is the dipole. A dipole is two wires running in opposite directions. One wire is the antenna, and the other acts as ground. An effective antenna just needs to "trap" the plus and minus differences in radio signal.

I had a loopstick in a Tic-Tac box. Clipped it to the dial stop of my phone- forget if those were antennas or grounds- I could hear Radio South Africa, or at least their ad-nauseum interval signal, nine notes over and over. My current project- copying a conch-shell horn speaker from the Twenties. Hard part is going to be finding a working driver- got my eye on a Baldwin on eBay; have asked the seller to do the static electricity test when he can.

have you tried to build billy's fm or sw crystal radio?
@tsbrownie3 ай бұрын
No. I've looked at a few of his radios, but so far have not tried them.

@@tsbrownie I also never tried his FM crystal radio. but i got a random FM station because i accidentally connected the antenna to the ground connection to my crystal radio. but i was hearing AM and FM at the same time.
