In addition to this video, I have also written a blog on my website about the iconic music video for Gypsy Woman that was directed by Mark Pellington. Here is a link to the post: www.devingademan.com/writings/crystal-waters-gypsy-woman-videoclip/ I also wrote about an interesting, geeky detail regarding the Korg M1 back in December of 2022 (thank you to those who messaged me back then!) Here is a link to that post: www.devingademan.com/writings/who-knows-more-about-this-detail-on-the-korg-m1/ Many thanks for watching and reading! DG

Thank you for your comment! Yes, this is the original machine and preset that was used for the recording. I agree, I heard the song for the first time on tv in the spring/summer of 2012 and I loved it ever since. I had no clue about how it was done/made back then, but that was about to change quickly. The whole album “Surprise” is kind of a guilty pleasure of mine. It’s a fun record loaded with all those classic, early nineties sounds!

Buddy… this is _almost_ perfect. On that last chord, if you play just a C bass note instead of C# it will be absolutely perfect! 🙂 👍👍👍

Anyone else waiting for that 909 and tx81z to kick in?
@devingademan2 ай бұрын
Thank you sir for your kind correction! For those reading: when going from the G minor seventh chord, go to a C dominant minor ninth chord playing the C with your left hand and the G, Bb, Db & E in the right hand. In this recording I played the Db instead of a C. I do have to say that both 'kind of' work though; playing the Db in the left hand will put more emphasis on the diminished chord in the right hand, but I'd advice to stick to the original and just play the C cause it will sound more balanced. The riff - also thanks to the organ preset patch - already sounds razor-sharp anyway and you'll hear it particularly ringing out when playing those final E min 7th to Eb maj7 chords :) I hope this explanation is a bit helpful. Many thanks for all the kind comments! Greetings from Germany!

@@devingademan I've been playing a C7 chord the whole time but after hearing your version I think the original does go to a Db in the root which would make it a Dbdim7. Good stuff, man
@devingademanАй бұрын
@@protem_musicThank you for your kind words and yes, I feel that both ways kind of work. The Db in the left hand will put more emphasis on the Diminished chord whereas playing the C in the left hand will make it sound more balanced.

Thank you so much for your kind words! Yes, very much a classic! I add these kind of intros to these type of videos mainly because I’ve always felt these instruments were so beautifully designed and therefore shine a little bit of light on them! :) They were true instruments and still very much appreciated by both the original users as well as a newer generation of musicians like me. I take care of them well and cherish them a lot, trying to use them as much as I can in both old and new ways on recordings. Again, thank you for your comment and greetings from Germany. -Devin

It’s funny how both Korg and Roland always add classic design features to their newer keyboards over the years. The Kronos has those same slinder black buttons. Same keyboard body shape just about.
@devingademan2 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment and yes, you are right! Those black ‘square bar’ buttons around the screen have a good feel and the same (or similar) buttons were used all over the front panel for the Wavestation and 01/W. When the Nautilus was presented late 2020, it instantly reminded of the design of the Korg M1. Truly a timeless design!

what's the preset at the start of the video?

Hi, it's the famous Korg M1 preset "Universe". It is the first patch found at '00' from the factory presets (MPC-00P)

Great! is that preset on the M1's internal memory, or does it come from the inserted card there?
@devingademan28 күн бұрын
@@croonologist Thanks! It is the 17th preset of the internal memory, but because I had different patches loaded into the internal memory when recording this video, I loaded them in by using my memory card (mpc-00p) that has the factory presets on it.

Hey by any chance do you know if i can download the Korg M1 sounds into my casiotone CT-400? Thanks.
@devingademan21 күн бұрын
Hi! That unfortunately wouldn't be possible. I checked if your Casio had MIDI so that you could download the Korg M1 software VST and use the Casio to trigger the sounds, but I see it does not have midi outputs.
