Really looking forward to this pack. I preordered mine earlier today. I own quite a few pieces of Outdoor Vitals gear and I have not been disappointed with any of it. Keep up the quality work.

Looking forward to receiving the CS40 when it ships. I have been nothing but thrilled with all of my purchases from Outdoor Vitals to date. I am by no means a "gear head" when it comes to backpacking, but I do look to invest in my hobbies/enthusiast interests pretty substantially (much to the dismay of my bank account sometimes). Like my other hobbies, backpacking is not cheap, so I look for those items that will give me superlative quality, durability, and functionality while still providing value. There are a lot of hype products in the backpacking space, and both cottage companies and big box brands look to generate a lot of FOMO surrounding their products... what I like about OV is the utter transparency and attention to detail that is evident across the board. What you see is what you get. Deep dive podcasts like these aren't about blowing smoke up prospective customers backsides, but rather to explain what a product is, who it's for, and what you can expect. OV doesn't try to be everything to everyone, and that's ok! Your gear doesn't need to be a status symbol or the "best of the best" it just needs to work! I have roughly a dozen different pieces from Outdoor Vitals ranging from 2 months to 2 years old, and I can honestly say that I have been delighted with the value and quality of every single piece. It is for that reason that I have no reservations about pre-ordering the CS40, sight unseen, and having the confidence that this will be a welcomed addition to my gear collection. Thank you, gentlemen, for all of your R&D efforts and delivering value in the eyes of the customer!

Awesome points about tall people not just ordering the tall bags. Something i never really considered as a smaller person, but might be why my tall partner has had so many issues with bags in the past

As always the deep dive poddcasts are just super intersting and something you do not see or hear from other manufactures. The openess of OV is something that drives me to use my consumer choice in purchasing that turns me towards OV. Although not a thru hiker - or ever a hiker that currently puts out long miles - I do have one on order. I cannot help but belive that any pack designed first for performance and comfort is not advantagous to a hiker regardless of the distance or terain traveled. Something that is so easy for me to see and understand is a frame riding higher than my shoulder so that load lifters actually lift the load of the pack. I use a commuter pack everyday that has served me very well over many years of use and after each OV podcast or video on the advantage of load lifters I find myself wondering why they are on my commuter bag when all they do is pull the top of the pack forward since the top of the bag is lower than my shoulders. With many years of purchasing new and inovative products from OV I am confident that this will be a purchase not to be regretted, but looked back at as being one that will be thought of as one that carried me on many an adventure. Thanks for your vision, your passion, and for helpiong us all live ultralight.

Thank you for the deep dive on the CS40, How well does it carry a bear canister? Is it Airport carry-on friendly? Can the top closure be strapped down on the sides?

The width of the shoulder straps is also very important, spreading and padding the load. Also important is the edges are not seam taped like in a lot of packs, that method of construction compresses the outer edge of the straps and stiffens it making it uncomfortable.

Its brilliant, but I would need a better, longer 3 point strap on top. My current bag can hold large items up there. As a BoyScout leader, I need that capability.

On the days I'm not backpacking, how well would the CS40 work as a day pack? FYI, I do tend to bring my hammock with me most of the time to take a moment and lounge in, and I have kids lol

It's only 27 oz, so weight wouldn't be a problem. But the capacity is probably more than you would need for a day pack.

One more question, since the seams are not sealed or taped, does the OV team use pack rain covers? Even though all the stuff on the inside is in dry bags or a pack liner, I dont want water getting into my pack with a long rain. I was wondering what solutions were out there for this? Part of the appeal to me with DCF and Ultra fabrics is the fact it is highly waterresistant and I wouldnt need a pack cover for one.
