Most of this was filmed at Peter Tork’s house that Stills rented. Apparently this was what they were arguing about: “Stills added a special touch by rehearsing Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, complete with screaming amplifiers and pounding drums, on the patio. "One day Stephen says: 'It's a beautiful afternoon--I want to hear how this sounds in the outdoors. Let's just set up all the instruments outdoors and play for a while," says Nash. "And we did." When Crosby questioned the wisdom of openly provoking the neighbors, Stills accused him of betraying his freak-flag allegiance... It was typical of the band's heated infighting, in which one member would hurl another's lyrics at him as evidence of mendacity or the dreaded "cop-out." Dallas Taylor, the band's drummer, recalled one evening at Shady Oak "sitting there, taking a long hit off of one of Crosby's killer joints, vaguely aware that an argument was going on around me: 'Fuck you!' 'No, fuck you!' 'That's a cop-out, man!'" The next thing Taylor knew, Stills had escorted him downstairs to the music room to jam with Jimi Hendrix and Buddy Miles. The refreshments, according to Taylor, included a large mound of cocaine sitting on a mirror on the Hammond organ." (Copyright © 2006 Michael Walker)

@@edoardorandine La discussione tra Stills e Crosby era dovuta al fatto che fossero in affitto nella casa di Peter Tork, e lo stesso Tork li aveva avvertiti di non suonare nel giardino. Stills avrebbe comunque voluto suonare e aveva già sistemato l'attrezzatura della band fuori. Crosby si oppose per paura che qualcuno dei vicini disturbato dal rumore potesse chiamare la polizia che di conseguenza avrebbe potuto arrestarli per tutta l'erba che avevano (a quanto pare parecchia). A questo punto Stills si incazzò con Crosby, ricordandogli il testo della sua canzone Almost Cut My Hair e accusandolo di essere un'ipocrita poichè il suo comportamento non rispecchiava le parole da lui cantate nella canzone (e questa è la risposta alla tua domanda, Stills dice: "I’m not gonna cop out an inch to fear and he walked out two days in a row you fucking hypocrite! you piss me off!"). Alla fine il resto della band si mise a suonare e, come preventivato da Tork e Crosby, i poliziotti arrivarono a farli smettere (per fortuna non perquisirono la casa in cerca di erba e nessuno fu arrestato)

Nash was always way too loud, and tinny. He is the one who needed to learn how to blend. The high harmony is not supposed to overpower the melody line, no matter how much attention the high harmonizer craves.

I totally agree as much as I love CSNY, Gnash can wear my ears down sometimes both with the sheer power of his falsetto and the saccharine twee way he annunciates everything. Love the guy but he has his faults

I've always felt that Stills should have just wrote and played guitar. His voice is iffy as hell IMO
