Sends chills through my soul and tears down my face. As a veteran I can appreciate the beauty and the sorrowful tragedy of life lost. It is so amazing how effortlessly they can sing such incredibley beautiful harmonies. Additionally, I love the way Crosby lays down his low harmony - so understated yet, brilliant.

Actually, David Crosby sings all the high parts in their songs.. Listen to him accompany Jackson Browne when he did "Something Fine".. David Crosby has the ultimate high Tenor voice with perfect, well rounded tone, and the best and used correctly, vibrato..
@rudojockin80904 жыл бұрын
@@frandanco6361 That's not accurate; he's seldom on top (he is in Teach YC), he's usually in the middle, and occasionally below Stills. Nash is usually the highest part in harmonies

Long and lost tragedies of war recalled by partners who knew that one day in OHIO. The cost of war in a democratic world? Hopeful lyrics of inspiration seen and lived and remembered well because of music.
@dennysmith7862 Жыл бұрын
The first time I heard this song, I cried... "Do we find the cost of freedom buried in the ground, mother earth will swallow you, lay your body down..." This song and lyrics epitomises the absolute senselessness of war... Was THE best protest song of all time... Is my favourite CSN&Y song... Capture the senselessness of war from Civil war to the then Vietnam call-up... If you don't get the message just listen to the salient words... Fallout of WW1 & 2 was horrific... My father became a functioning alcoholic due to his experiences endured... South Africa, Rhodesia, South West Africa, Mozambique squirmishes were on the go... My young brother was in Oshakati... supposedly 'on the border' (Angola)... Cannot beat the shenanigans of politicos, the egotistical macho grey matter involved... Not to mention lucrative weaponry manufacturing involved... I heard of some American group involved in selling weapons to the Viet Cong whilst war was raging against their own countrymen...!!! In Cape Town, there were some Vietnam 'draft-dodgers' plus some Aussies who were also drafted to Vietnam and parents didn't want them dead... (never hear of their involvement only Americans)... Cape Town and SA in general was going through it's own personal war as Apartheid bully boys (Nationalist Nazis) were in full power mode... Man's inhumanity to his fellow man and woman and child... Love never fails... Jesus's words - gave his perfect life for all of mankind which no politician would ever do... They get everyone else's sons (and daughters now) involved but never themselves! When will we ever learn...

Lose? We didn't lose. Abandoned perhaps. Marginalized absolutely. Trivialized and reviled most assuredly; but we didn't lose. Policy, politics, and public opinion made the war untenable for the US and the world. For those on the ground and in the skies of Southeast Asia, they lost their innocence, they lost their friends and comrades, and somewhere along the way, they lost themselves. There was nothing to win in Vietnam and no way to win it; hindsight being what it is. One had but to look at the history of the country and failure of the French to know and understand how it would turn out. And for their effort and sacrifice, they were shunned, spit upon, ignored, and demonized. Despite that, we won every major battle, operation, and campaign in Southeast Asia. They did what was asked of them while being held in contempt by the nation that sent them. So I don't see how it is you think "they" lost.

I'm more a fan of Neil Young, but Stephen Stills is an incredible artist. Buffalo Springfield, with Neil, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Manassas, Stills-Young Band Long May You Run. His first 2 solo albums, Stills and Stills 2 and Just Roll Tape recorded in april 1968, which gives you a glimpse of some bare acoustic demos which would end up to being some of his best work. Great to see Neil and Stephen trading licks

Must have been when Crosby was released from the Texas Department of Corrections after doing a two year bit for possession. Texas cut his hair off when he arrived there. Crosby relays the story as Texans not being terribly impressed with him or Rock "n' Roll. When he arrived to serve his time within the Texas prison system he was greeted with "Well now....Rock Star!! Have a seat right here and we'll get that trimmed right up for ya"! :-)
