Can't believe such a top Chess player, probably the second greatest player of his generation after Magnus, is conducting such an awesome podcast. This deserves more subscribers.
Yasser has got to be one of the most likable and story-filled GMs out there!! Bravo, guys.

A regular person telling a story is like a factual scroll with machine written letters. When Yasser talks about old phone books and parking space you can still feel the soul frequencies radiating out of him and then he adds some extra-dimensional memes from the future as he speaks and you just feel relaxed and happy.

Yasser is so interesting. The way he became a top player, studying because he wanted to play better and better people until he finally got a chance to play and beat the best players in the world, is kind of nuts. Also Yasser can naturally fill up a podcast with just his stories, barely needs the others lol.

Hello people of KZbin I know it might see like this sort of chess vibe was from a another time, but I assure you, it’s a great scene OTB nowadays still, with the same things Yasser was talking about. It doesn’t really matter how old you are, like I have a lot of chess friends that are a year older or a few years younger. It’s also a really nice community where everyone is respected, even if you’re not that good. Obviously those who show up more become decent, and probably get more friends, but it’s welcome for everybody. Really recommend the scene if you live close enough or are interested enough in the game.

This is incredible and unique chess content and a wonderful bridge between the 3 protagonists forming a unique intergenerational perspective. We see the shift of the significance of the Second from a boxing coach coming into the ring between rounds to a 100m dash coach cheering on from the sidelines with the advent of technology and changes in rules and regulations. We get the contemporary, top level chess narratives and references from Fabi, while Yasser gives a deep insight into the camaraderies chess revolved around, the nationalistic brotherhoods type of head-to-head challenges mirroring the political sphere, and you get the same sense regarding how chess organization mirrors contemporary liberal ideals today, namely the significance of the individual chess player, and Cristian has a wonderful way of prodding at the perfect questions to bring out the best of the entire conversation!

How did I not know about this channel? I have been living under a rock. I am insta-subscribing! When I was a teenager, I was lucky that the local university library is quite good. The chess books were old, so I learned descriptive notation before I ever heard of algebraic notation (this was in the late 90s). But they were good books. Reinfeld, Horowitz, Fine, and others. I think the first one I checked out was How To Think Ahead in Chess by Horowitz. And then there was a 1920s copy of Morphy's Games of Chess by Sergeant. I checked that one out lots of times. The notation was an even more ancient version of descriptive. It took me a while to figure out that Kt means knight. From playing over those games, I developed the habit of turning the knights so they face each other at the beginning of the game, and keeping that orientation. That way I can always know at a glance which is the KKt and which is the QKt.

Just about half an hour in and really enjoying. Buy just one thing, in general especially in the beginning (first 5-10 min) there's no need to interrupt the story, I know it can feel awkward and like you have to interrupt or everyone will forget that you exist, bit really it's okay, and as long as it's not a question clarifying what he said, there's really no reason to interrupt in the background story, later obviously you should add to the story or give your perspective of it, or change the subject and whatever, but in the beginning it's not necessary at all. You guys are new but I'm sure you'll get used to it very fast! Great episode (so far...) And I can't wait to see how this grows!

Yeah, there were a few moments where Yasser is just like "It's coming." or "I'll get to that." Let the man finish lol
@Joseph-on7nf2 жыл бұрын
Well now that I'm done... The podcast was really really good,I really enjoyed the stories behind the 81 match, and would listen to that for another 10 hours, but in the podcast setting you probably should've cut that half an hour before the end. Unless you structure the podcast around a certain match or timeframe, a good example would be if you had a full podcast talking about the 2018 match (or that period so also the build up, candidates etc), but if you want to make it more about the person you're interviewing's full carrier, or also mix done recent news and developments in, you have to go on to the next subject, even though the stories are so good. Maybe a a list of points you want to go through will help (could also be detrimental). Another good example would be if you interview Hans Neimann, you can make part of the podcast about this match, but you don't want that to be the whole thing, like imo probably no more then 20 minutes. Anyway don't worry to much about this you guys are doing amazing, just trying to help. Good luck
