The lower lights are "Ditch Lights" They are used when the train is in forward motion. They are used as a warning at the many level grade crossings. Thanks for watching. Best, Darren

Thank you, this was shot at the Amtrak station. I think it is perhaps the best place to watch trains. I would suggest asking the station master, which is what I did. You never know what you are going to see. Best, DPL

Very cool! why do the loco lights start flashing? also I would guess the draw bar strain must be enormous on the last loco and first few vehicles!
