The CSX Santa Train on the former Clinchfield Railroad was popular again this year. The people of the area through which the CSX Santa Train enjoy the train along with all the railfans who follow the train from one stop to another. There should be a law against putting H. Harrison’s name on a historic piece of passenger equipment! Paying homage to the person who did more damage to the railroad industry than will ever be fully corrected absolutely stinks! On the other hand, the Santa Train is awesome! It’s amazing that it survived the HH fiasco! Great job on this Jaw Tooth! I hope to make this trip one day!

Here in O'Canada we have the CP Christmas Holiday train , now CPKC crossing Canada , been doing so since 1999 plus and they raise food for the food banks , and the CPKC Holiday Train in the U.S crossing the good ol U.S.A also... so great for public relations an tradition too. I really want to film that train. It ran all the way across the USA down near New Orleans. Next summer the CPKC is running a steam train from Canada to Mexico. I will be chasing that one for sure

@@JawTooth yes , CP 2816 the Empress , you should look up " Final spike tour 2816 " that's the locomotive that will make the run , I hope you get to see her ... she's beautiful. They did a lot of testing her here in Alberta. Cheers.

Very nice coverage of the Santa Train. We were thinking about looking for it but we were in the wrong locations. This looked almost like chasing the N&W’s 611 a few weeks ago. Takes me back to my college days in Pikeville. Lot's of memories of running to Haysi to buy beer for the mining tech boys and girls. Eastern Kentucky was dry at the time and you traveled to Haysi, Pound, Grundy or Williamson, WV.

Very nice JT...something different, for sure. FYI, that pair of CSX units (1 and 2) are former Amtrak F40PH2's...280 and 395, respectively; not (freight) "F-units" as stated in the video. Passenger cars are from CSX's business / inspection fleet (with the exception of the "Santa" car bringing up the markers, of course!) 👍🎄🎅

GM Mr Tooth. great video. i saw another video by someone else that did a video on a crew change there. he said you know when the train is coming because a wind from the tunnel as the train forces air out. I remember seeing B&O Locos painted like the F units

Dante was a very busy yard up into the 1990s. The coal mined in thus area was extremely desirable for the steel industry.

One of the early Tier 4's in the lead and a newer Tier 4 with the updated exhaust structure behind it. 10:50 GE/Wabtec had some clearance issues with the squared off exhaust housing in some facilities so they redesigned it.

The Christmas train is a wonderful thing to do for the people who live in some of the poorest counties in the US. What I don't understand, and perhaps someone can enlighten me, is why all CSX executive cars are included in these trips. It's almost like the CSX is showing off how successful they are to have these luxury cars included. Were all these cars filled with bikes, toys and candy? Probably not. What was their purpose?

At one point in video two, the lighting was right so I could see people waving from the observation car. So maybe people paid to ride the train. Otherwise, the train windows were tinted so I couldn’t see into them.

Still that quiet laid back way of life in an industry that probably will never fully be back. Too bad about the Hyasi RR. Would have loved to have seen it in action with their one engine an F7B.
