Reimu would least of all try to avoid a fight; for all Marisa knew, she had looked forward to a hero's death even longer than Marisa herself had. But Marisa didn't know what to do. Until an old tune, "End of Daylight," popped into her head and she started recalling Reimu's words to her before. "If either of us falls to darkness," Reimu had said before spell cards were established, "the other one must destroy her." Marisa sensed that time had come, and that Reimu was the one who had fallen. But was Marisa up to it? Then Marisa recalled something Reimu had said the very first time they'd met: "Remember, you haven't reached your full potential yet. If you gather all the abilities within your reach, you should become stronger. You may even become as powerful as I am." Those words had driven Marisa's whole life since then. If Reimu foresaw that already back then, surely that point would have come by now? As nostalgia powered Marisa, she dug out an old one-liner she'd used on Reimu before: "Alright, alright, I give up, I give up. The creeping despair, people losing the will to fight, incidents stopping, and painting funny symbols on flowers... It's all Alice's fault. Now, bitch, get out of the way!" The girl standing before her said, "Ah yes, you told me that before. It wasn't funny the first time." And then they said to each other in unison, "IT'S ON!"

2:40 I never really understood the emotional appeal and urgency of this part of the theme until recently. It doesn't matter who wins, for it will all come to an end either way (I'm aware of the extra/phantasm stage though). This isn't just any ordinary final battle, but a tragic final battle, and only recently did I get the feeling that this part portrays it the most.

Listening to these songs in order, and reading the descriptions... And then finally, this. Just the dialogue practically brought a tear to me. This is a beautiful made fan-game, probably one of the best there will ever be. Trying to live up something as emotional as this, which is already extremely hard to do, is a serious challenge for anybody who is going to make a Touhou fan-game. Beautiful, perfect final boss theme. This game deserves praise.

I finally played CtC today. Damned nearly cried at the last stage because of this arrange despite all the times I'd listened to it before. I haven't felt like crying at a game since Silent Hill 2 but there I was, dodging bullets with my heart broken... How bizarre. But I guess that's just how much I love Gensoukyou. Leaving aside the unnecessary subplot-thingy with Alice's unrequited love, which broke my immersion completely back when I watched someone's gameplay (thankfully the route I picked turned out to be a different one), this fangame does literally everything right. One of my favorite things about it was the writing for Yukari and Yuyuko. They absolutely nailed their characters.

This song works just on so many levels. The panic of the intro, the lightness of the beginning, the melancholy of the ESM part....what gets me most is the instruments. The 1st section features strings and Japanese flutes, all assoc. with Reimu's themes that all return in the ESM part. On looping, the 1st part is taken over by the ZUN-pets, something featured heavily in WHOSE themes? Plus the doubling of the pianos, which both themes have. It's Marisa's filibuster of Gensokyo's destruction.

It's weird people keep thinking that Touhou will die off... Yes, there might not be canon games made by ZUN, but just think that what if ZUN wants to pass it down? Sometimes in life you don't have to think it too negitive of things. The life cycle is different then an normal human being can think of. Touhou give bearth to many things we know today, such as: Seihou, Len'en, and to the point even UNDERTALE. If touhou do end, it's like humanity falls into it's knees. So I wish fellow Touhou fans to still support Touhou even if ZUN is no longer with us. Luckily, the extended good ending to this game is the... can I use Canon? it's a fan game, so obviously, no, it's not canon, but it's canon within this fan games story. Hell yeah Marisa and Reimu being that close in reality, and Suika being awesome and regathering Gensokyo! I knew she (Suika) was my favorite character for a reason other than just her being awesome.

I didnt understand the endings at all. The good ending is something like both Reimu and Marisa awaking at some hospital in real world, and that one I didnt comprehend. Can someone explain it to me?

The established lore: - Reimu is the creator of Gensokyo. She is practically confirmed to be a real human, dreaming, and is bent on destruction of her own dream world by waking up. - Because Gensokyo is a construct of the mind and the mind it "lives" in doesn't want to support it anymore, it and all of the presumably fictional characters inside are being erased from existence until nothing is left. - The timer that counts down during the Reimu fight is how much time is left until she wakes up. Ending 1: - This ending is triggered when the timer runs out. Gensokyo is destroyed because Reimu wakes up. Marisa is therefore kicked out. - Marisa, an Ordinary (heh) school girl wakes up from her dream. She ponders it briefly, particularly admiring how convincingly real it was, before she heads off. - Gensokyo is remembered as much as you'd remember a dream. It will not survive the test of time. Ending 2: - This ending is triggered when you've defeated Reimu and, in total, done so an odd number of times. In your 1st, 3rd, 5th, etc win, Gensokyo is completely restored, but... - Marisa and Reimu are very happy and emotional etc in the dream. Some other Touhou who I assume to be Alice kicks out Marisa, much the latter's dismay, causing her to awaken. Her situation is unknown in this ending, and we don't really know if Reimu wakes up; we just know Marisa isn't in Gensokyo anymore. - Gensokyo is never forgotten and the memories stay with Marisa forever. Ending 3: - Ending 2 but for even-numbered wins. Gensokyo is completely restored but the ladies wake up so I guess it's also destroyed (in mint condition). - A certain blonde and a certain red girl are patients in the same room of a hospital. It seems like the dream happened a long while ago, since they're conversing about dreams at the start of the credits sequence. It's implied that the certain red girl is the one telling the story, but she's leaving names unnamed. The blonde one is leaving TODAY, and she's also leaving the red one behind. - As she's about to depart, the blonde one, instead of calling the red girl by her real name, says goodbye to Reimu. The red girl immediately catches on. That was irl everyday Marisa Kirisame talking to irl everyday Reimu Hakurei. Gensokyo is never forgotten, same as Ending 2. I think they become friends. Summary of irl implications: - In Ending 1, Marisa is a girl living a regular life and getting an education, and Marisa is her real name. Reimu probably exists, but nothing is known about her. - In Ending 2, nothing is known about Marisa and nothing is known about Reimu. - In Ending 3, Reimu and Marisa aren't their real names. They are hospitalized but Marisa is released shortly after the credits. The two form a bond over their shared dream.

I used to get the First ending or a "bad ending / try again" because I'm so bad at Touhou (bullet hells), and the gameplay videos with the other endings were confuse The real Reimu and real Marisa becoming friends is sooo nice!

@@_y4020 *eyebrows raised* I vaguely remember the timer is more of a countdown to how long Reimu had to LIVE, with the reason for Gensokyo's destruction is because she's dying; living on borrowed time by the time Marisa reaches her(hence, the pure white clothing, essentially mourning/ghost clothes. She was practically a ghost and her body is almost dead). Beating Reimu after timer ends results in Reimu's death Beating Reimu before the timer ends results in Reimu and Marisa wake up in the same hospital room(not sure how Reimu survived), contemplating about a shared dream. This is the one that leads to the Extra Stage and the meeting with Suika.

I had exclusively read a little summary and the endings to make my reply, I got lazy and it was my bad, in fact i knew about the extra stage and just didnt bother to check what it was supposed to be about. I'm sorry. Here's what I missed: Corrections - Reimu isn't BENT on destroying Gensokyo. She shows a hint of solemnity but definitely accepts that this will be everybody's last day. I find it easy to imagine her as a keystone a little like Yggdrasil. - The timer that counts down during the Reimu fight is because she will only survive until sunset if she gathers all her energy; a battle is straining her body and accelerating her demise. - The death thing the gentleman above said Additions - In Endings 2 and 3 Gensokyo is most likely not destroyed as detailed by the next bullets. You end up clearing both endings while unlocking Extra and Phantasm. |||||EXTRA STAGE||||| - Marisa returns to the dream and is frankly a little surprised. - Suika, whose power if you recall involves storing and dividing power, was able to divide herself into many bits, scatter them across Gensokyo, and "obtain" its raw essence as the world shriveled and died. - This is used to recreate Gensokyo by an unspecified type and amount of """mystical power""" (plot), but she can only restore characters' bodies, not their personalities or memories. However, there is mention that some characters may be recoverable if they held onto pieces tightly like she did. (I imagine this as a flashdrive connecting to a computer, allowing the computer to at least acknowledge the files. Additionally you can imagine it as plugging into a databank and sucking out all the information you can get, since our oni friend was only able to obtain it all because she was everywhere in the "databank" at once.) - Suika isn't great at creating things so she asks Marisa to bring Reimu there. Also, it's stated multiple times between this and Phantasm that the new Gensokyo doesn't feel quite like the original, albeit very close. |||||PHANTASM STAGE||||| - Thanks to Marisa, Reimu returns to the dream and is frankly a little surprised. - It is implied that after the stage ends, Reimu helps out Suika, but it isn't known how (the latter takes interest in Reimu's knowledge of the matter during Phantasm) or if characters are successfully restored.
