@@CTmoog Thank you, CT! That's not where i live, that's actually a city in Bosnia, called Mostar! I live in a equally beautiful place, on it's own ways... hahaha. It's a city in the coutryside, in the state o São Paulo, called Piracicaba, that in the native language means the place where the fishes stop. You should pass by when the VW is finished! hahaha.

Nice! looks like you got some nice reman floors there. I'm thinking you may need a wheel tub and a lower quarter before trying to weld the battery tray in. A nice spot weld removal drill bit is a VERY useful tool at this stage, a good one, a couple of them. and a center punch and wire wheel to locate spot welds. You are focused and motivated, you got this man!
@adamwing93015 жыл бұрын
ps dont get discouraged! youre gonna find more rust and rot the further you dig n, but it's only metal, it was put there by a person at a factory who had less tech in tools the average home hobbiest restorationist and most of the type 2 splitty metal is avail in re-pops, out riggers,supports and all.

CT moog Yes, and cheaper than casinos. And you are creating something of value. I have a lovely old 1961 Humber Hawk Series II that I have been spending a lot on in putting it back on the road as it has been in storage for approximately 30 years and has been in a derelict state. I have spent a lot but has been over a long period of time. And I inherited the car after my father passed away several years ago. So I didn't have to buy the car.

I like the Kombis for restoration better than the Beetle as they have reinforced floor structure rather than just the pan. Once the pan separates from the rockers you were out of heat and defrost and your car was no longer structurally sound. But, pans are available as well; just get out the welder for a lot work.

I had a similar project many years ago, was a chevy 52. After disassembling and getting some of the parts, the job of replacing the rotten metal was too much. I ended up selling the chassis and body to someone that wanted to make a hotrod from it. If i can give you some advice, don't start with the battery tray. You have to give yourself a solid chassis and body. The battery tray joins several structural panels, you have to make sure that those panels are ok and you have replaced all the rotten metal areas around it. I think you should start with the rocker panels and corner panels or you will end up cutting into newly install parts when you need to replace other parts. good luck
