CT!!! good job. You work like me. Solutions on the fly!! I'm in the middle of a 1965 Ghia resto with my 16-year-old son. I saved the fuel pump to restore even though I bought a new one to get it running again. The second I saw it, I knew it was designed to be rebuilt.

Those rebuildable Pierburg pumps are the best. Awesome cleaning job. The parts are looking great. This car is complete and wasn’t hacked in the ‘80’s; perfect for a full resto. I believe your approach is good; get it running nice and gather parts and funds then tackle the full resto full tilt and focused when the time is right. I bet the oil leak comes from the oil cooler seals. For advice on Rusty Mike Fn is the guy! Your doggie is sweet! 🥰🐶

Fyi the flapper thing is a reed valve. That engine maybe in better condition than you think. Just some cleaning, adjust the valves and retorque the heads then flush the motor oil a few times then a compression test and you might surprised how good that engine really is because it actually sounds really good. Nice job on the pump !

That’s a cool car. Guess it could be a bit misleading but it doesn’t look like it’d need a lot to make it a decent runner. Impressed you didn’t get stressed about the drive home. Reminded me of driving my 56 oval home when I first got it - 6 miles with only a handbrake to stop it, no turn signals and the engine cutting out below 2000 rpms 😂

Had a 68 vw bug in the 70's into the 80's. Rebuilt the carburetor and tuned the engine after a engine fire. The engine fire was due to the small loose cooper fuel intake pipe on the carburetor, the Cooper pipe was ejected from it mounting hole on the carburetor with the help of the fuels back pressure. Dumped fuel all over the hot engine and 🔥🔥🔥 Don't think liquid solder was available back then so I applied super glue to the small cooper pipe and tapped it back into the hole with a hammer. The pipe never leaked fuel or came out again. I even pulled hard on the pipe with my fingers, it wouldn't budge. They have better solutions to this problem today, like liquid solder so use that.

@@johndavid8363 I think him and darrin have put together another engine.to put in this car. that one is really tired. They were working on a used parts engine on Darrin's channel. Yea he lost his job so he does need to get some view numbers but He is going to finish some of these cars. I just dont want him to take more apart because managing all those parts will be tough. Really I would just weld a pan section in, put brakes on it and drive it. That was my last conversation with him. Lets see if he does it. would be cool to have a driver. Like I said before something to drive to some shows.

Whoa, you're playing a bit dangerous, a? Mmm, until there's no fire you're good.. =) Anyway I wouldn't drive around with no brakes and accelerator, on the other side I was concerned by the improvised fuel line so close to the spinning pulley.. You look still alive, so everything is fine. I've also started my rebuild, I hope to upload it soon although the spring time is the worst for me.. Keep on, good job!

Once my Dad was getting VW parts from Brasil, since VW stopped making the classic VW bug, and the Carmen Gia there was need in America for those parts. I was assembling the type 1 and type 2 engines and tranny's to install them in "older" VWs. I thought you were doing brain surgery on that fuel pump. The Gia is a nice car, REPAIR THE FLOORS AND SHEET METAL FIRST! Then worry about the engine. It got so as to I could rebuild them in my sleep. Loosen the spincter and relax! Sheesh! Really? Hitler gave the order to develop the KDF car, but the designer was Ferdinand Porsche! So if already.... Porsche pump. In the end, the Pierburg company manufactured the pumps on behalf of VW. Let's be honest, you can save yourselves such nonsense. It just gets on your nerves! Not every German is a Nazi, but apparently that does not fit in some brains.

@@mawa01 didn't mean to strike a nerve "tough on the internet" but last I checked Ferdinand wasn't evil, Hitler was. Nobody said anything about all Germans.

@@Jayvans_Super Well..... But the name (Hitler) with a product brought into the consensus of a timeline and that's not okay. This man (as evil as he was) did not want to know about the KDF car (now VW Beetle) at first, the Nazi organization "Kraft durch Freude" (KdF) was rather behind it to give the German people more mobility. Ferdinand Porsche is also not as innocent as one might think. In wartime, he employed forced laborers as general manager of Volkswagenwerk GmbH. So he too was afflicted with a major shortage. But that's history, I just can't hear the name Hitler anymore, because he is very often associated with us Germans. By the way, Hitler was not German, but Austrian. The Germans of that time were only too stupid to follow him. I had to get rid of now Grüße aus Deutschland

@@mawa01 bro, I know what he was. You should relax, I don't want trouble with anyone. You're the one who brought up Germans. Be blessed man. You've already taken too much of my time. Much love, much love

1st you drive your van around with panels just screwed together then you drive a car with a loose jerry can right next to moving pulleys in the engine bay, are you completely clueless as to what the word SAFETY means? christ if you got pulled in the UK driving either of them the vehicle would be impounded and crushed and you would lose your drivers licence due to no insurance!!

@@PerryGAllen Are you serious? one bump and the fuel can and battery could both of ended up in the engine resulting is a fireball, I love restoration videos and have fully supported this guy up till now but christ risking your life the way he has in the last 2 videos is just ludicrous, it may only be a short journey but trust me anything can happen, is it really worth risking your life for the sake of a few minutes strapping stuff down for safety, especially as when he pulls up he states "I have a fuel leak" no shit shirlock you have a loose jerry can with no lid and a pipe hanging loose in it and an HT lead arcing out!! It doesn’t take much to ignite fuel vapors. It can happen in a heartbeat! I lost a friend several years ago due to third degree burns over most of his body. A gas can he had in his hand exploded when vapors ignited, showering him with burning fuel. Just not worth taking the risk......
