You dont need any Speacial tool. Just use the Lock plier turn and Zip Tie with the long Battery holder bolt or anything so the Plier wont turn back. We do this all the time at the shop

This was the icing on the cake to this video. Thank you for the comment. We had our car parked against the garage door and could not jump it. Saw this video but didn’t have that piece. Was able to turn this piece with locking pliers and I just walked back with it turned as my wife eased on the brake pedal and let it roll down the driveway. Both you and the poster are awesome!! Honda uses this same tool on the Passport/Pilot. I assume other models as well. The part number for the tool is 07AAA-TZ3A100 and you can do a web search for that. It's not cheap, but don't count on the tow driver to have one or even know that is a thing. I speak from experience.

Just had to save one stranded on the side of the road, had one of my buddies grab it with vice grips and he just sat on the hood as we flat towed it to safety. It should just click into neutral like any other car.

@@MrSlimeMan01 it’s electric so once you let it go it will go back into park. It’s annoying but you could use an adjustable wrench and a zip tie to hold it in neutral. Glad you were able to move it out of the way.

Great video if you're a mechanic in a shop that has this specialized tool. What if I am stuck with a dead battery and a tow truck driver shows up that probably doesn’t have this specialized tool? How do I get it into neutral so it can be pulled onto a flatbed tow truck?

You can use an adjustable wrench 🔧 and a zip tie or a small screwdriver 🪛 to lock it in place. My tool just turns the shaft and locks it in place. If you have an adjustable wrench that has a hole at the end of it, you can turn the shaft and zip tie the wrench to hold it in place.

Is the special tool really needed? I mean, if you turn it to the left a little each time, couldn’t you do that without the tool? It looks like just a shaft sticking up. My 19 Odyssey looks the same as this MDX. I haven’t tried it but I was wondering if you or anyone else tried it without the tool. At $50, that sucks.

motofun you need the tool unless you have someone holding it. Once you turn it and let go it will go back into park which is why you need the tool. The tool locks it from turning back into park

Actually I have strange thing the car Knop is not horizontal it is in a vertical position and won't start or even shit to other position I think someone tried to shifts it before... The car is been in accident and I just bought it it is 2020 mdx if you guys can help I would be happy and thank you in advance

I’m not sure how the shifter override works on this vehicle. The shaft for the tool might be on the side. You can probably rotate it to get it to move. If you disconnect the battery you might be able to turn the shaft and it might stay in neutral. If the vehicle has power when you turn it, it might turn back to park.

Special tool cause the tools locks the transmission into neutral. You can use a crescent wrench but you would have to have someone hold it or zip tie it.

Yes but you would need someone to hold it while moving it. It’s electronic so it won’t stay in neutral unless you hold it.

You must be kidding me !!!! My car in my garage stuck on P ... I thought the battery is dead so I bought another battery and installed it . The car did not start so my problem is not the battery . Now I want to tow the car to the dealership but it’s on P and could not find a way to put on N ... I doubt towing companies know how to release it with this tool .... I got mdx 2016 and now I have no idea how I can tow the car to the dealership .... it will take days to get the tool ... this is way too complex. Any idea if towing companies have alternatives on how to tow the car while on P or other ways to tow the car ?

The only other way are to use skates to drag the car onto the truck or there would have to be two people. One person would have to use a pair of pliers to turn the piece on the transmission and hold it while the other person pulls the car up onto the truck.

Yea it’s definitely an inconvenience. We deal with so many cars that are frustrating to tow. Especially Mercedes. There are some cars that you have to get under the car to get to the transmission just to get it in neutral.

M Shaker - what was the diagnosis on your MDX? I have run into this same issue with my 2015 TLX - dead in the driveway, no ignition, no dash lights, not a click but the headlights work. Battery is good. Thanks for any advice!

@@robertschwendel5516 Believe or not it was the battery !!! Even with positive test .. my car requires a lot of power to start so the battery is like 350 -450 usd batteries and when you install it you need to offload the fuses for many parts so all battery power goes to ignition … change the battery turn off everything lights , AC , then bring a strong charge like from Ford truck then it will work. When you do this with lights and AC fuses on even a caterpillar won’t start it …. When I was at the dealer they said the handy charges in the market won’t start it unless you put all power to ignition and turn off all other parts
