Some of us like speed but we have kids and a family, sometimes we need a truck to haul a boat or trailer and get household items etc. why not have both worlds? A quick truck that you can haul the family, the boat and still beat most muscle cars lol

The factory fuel injection control module is prone to fail. Aftermarket ficm and then tune it. And always keep an eye on alternator and batteries. These will kill the stock ficm also.

so after seeing this vid i just went out and got one of the tuners and i tried all the setting and ill stick with atlas 40. so i have seen 1 1/2 mpg in town and 3 ish mpg on the highway. i have a 04 f250 6.0 i am also running gearhead tunes.

Original factory alternator was underpowered and caused numerous problems including FICM failure and early battery replacements. Many intermittent electrical glitches immediately went away after the new, higher amp alternator was installed.

The best mod for my power stroke 05 6.0 is not to have a heavy foot...maybe you guys drive the truck without hauling stuff and want to zoom zoom . I have some of the bulletproof stuff but not the heads off version. So my second important mod after replacing most of the other stuff is to keep my turbo boost less than 22 psi at the extreme. I get 14 mph without pulling my 29 hfs which seems pretty good. I've been told that 6.0 s cylinder #8 runs hot due to the too small exhaust diameter. I've also seen a totally remanufactured 6.0 from a shop in stockton that a local bee keeper hauls huge loads of bees and hives around usa. That motor has basically twice the powa. So for you guys looking for your 6.0 to do wheelies ...that's your ticket 20 k for motor.

Sounds similar to flashing. I unplug my glow plugs during the summer months. Don't need them for starting, only in cooler weather. Might also want to unplug the glow plugs when having to work the key switch so much like you where instructed too! I also unplug the egr valve. I only plug it back in when time for a vehicle inspection. Then unplug the egr value immediately after the inspection is done. Don't need the egr valve at all.

Good review. You should really change your batteries if you haven't yet. Weak batteries will kill your FICM.

It takes less time to install a ficm tune then it does to use a computer tuner, you should never let your battery go bad it’s not good for the ficm

Just get the new coolant cap. The coolant caps were an issue with those.

Great video, had no idea you could tune the FICM. By any chance have you ever used the Torque pro app on android/iphone? If you have, do you know if theres an option on there in the real time information area where you can monitor the EGT?

I do use the torque pro app with a BAFX bluetooth/obd2 adapter to monitor a lot of things on the truck. Unfortunately the 6.0 powerstroke didn't come with an EGT probe from the factory. Our only option is to put one in ourselves and have a separate gauge, or get a scanner/tuner like a SCT and use their probe. I'll be installing an EGT gauge/probe in my truck (glowshift brand) sometime in the next few weeks and I'll make a video on it.

I have a 2003 Ford f250. Bone stock no tunes. Just a cold air intake and boost tubes. It's still on the stock oil cooler and egr cooler head gaskets. Only the hpop has been replaced at 150k miles. And it gets worked hard almost every day. It currently has 196k miles. Leave out the tunes and keep her stock.

Do the proper maintenance and you'll never have an issue. Mine had 230k miles before the hpop went out, at that time I had it bulletproofed.

i have seen 1 1/2 mpg in town and 3 ish mpg on the highway. with the one i have. but i have only driven a little over 1000 mil with it. hope this helps

Have you ever heard of someone saying "RTFM"? You talk about programming the "ECU, PCM or ECM...what ever you want to call it". Ford calls it an ECM. Engine Control Module. This stuff is pretty darn technical and you shouldn't mess with it if you don't know what it is called, and unless you too are somewhat technical. Call the local dealership and ask what it will cost you to have the ECM or FICM reprogrammed. I don't say this to you but to all the others who see this and think they want to tinker. Can you live without your truck for a week and pay to have it towed to a repair shop and don't forget labor rates of over a $120 / hour. If you have a "few hundred dollars and are wondering what upgrade you should do to your truck", I would recommend buying a Ford Service Manual and then read it. RTFM = Read The (F)Darn Manual!

Headstuds are necessary (ARP) if you plan on any performance improvements, coolant filtration is necessary, regulated fuel return, bulletproof diesel water pump, Mishimoto radiator, always run Archoil 9100 in oil to eliminate stiction. EGR delete if you can, if not run the bulletproof diesel one. Fire ringing and ARP headstuds are necessary if you plan on any performance upgrades will be your biggest cost. Find a diesel mechanic that works on the side for 50-75$ cash under the table. That's what I did. I am also putting out about 600/1100 now though. Will need injectors by 160k miles as well. I always run a good cetane booster and cleaner every tank. Mine is more reliable than my 7.3L powerstroke now.
