Zach, good to see you've "caught" the family work-ethic! It's also good to see that you've caught the family patience!! Working through "stuff" is a fantastic life-talent, and it appears you and Sam are off to a great running start together! Rose is fantastically cute, and here's hoping that life just gets better for all of you!!

Zach awesome rebuild job buddy!! I actually helped a younger kid that has opened a small engine repair shop along with selling lawn mowers, chainsaws, weed eaters, also works on vehicles, & does tire repairs & sells new tires!! There is a couple reminders I will tell you!! First on the tubes for the tires I always blow them up first to verify that the stim is pointing in the right direction!! I have seen many new tubes where the blue lines were wrong!! Second thing is that you was one hundred percent right on the valve issue on the old motor!! I can’t tell you how many times I have seen some one bring in a mower & say it has a hesitant to start but if I take & try to turn it over a little by hand it will get enough to turn it over fast enough to start!! I always ask them if they have about 20 to 30 minutes & I’ll have it fixed!! Some will ask well what is the problem?? I’ve put a new battery in it, I’ve put a new starter in it!! I’ve also put a new solenoid in it & none of that fixed it!! I ask them have you ever taken it in to have the valves adjusted?? No what does that have to do with it starting?? I have gotten a lot of pissed of customers that always say well I wish I would have just brought it in to you first instead of spending a couple hundred on all those new parts that I put on that my mower didn’t need!! I then tell them well now you have some back up parts!! Lol!! It is so amazing how many people don’t realize that mowers definitely need to have the valves adjusted after so many hours!! They will also tell me well no one said anything about needing to bring it back in after so many hours to have the valves adjusted!! I usually tell them that maybe they forgot or just didn’t no them selves!! I have also had many mowers that have been taken to other shops & they could not figure out the problems!! One other thing on that cub cadet is keep an eye on the front tire as they are very common for them to like be towed out or towed in witch can cause the tires to wear out very very fast!! I have seen that problem more then a dozen times in a mowing season with all being new customers!! Definitely change the oil at the beginning of each year & I live on a farm so have probably about as much as your dad has to mow & I then change mine in the middle of the season also!! Good clean oil is a must with small engines & also make sure that the oils have the zinc & all the good stuff that they have taken out of most oils today!! I have also seen people take the shields off that some engines have that like rap around the heads!! People don’t realize that those shields are there to help cool the engine!! The other thing I can suggest is after each mowing just take your air compressor with an air nozzle on the end & just blow off all the loose grass that gets pulled in against the engine this will also help keep the engine running cooler last longer & also during the winter will help keep the mice from taking all the grass clippings & taking them & building a nest in the air cleaners or under the flywheel!! That is another big issue that I have seen people come in for is that they will say it was running just fine before I put it away last season & then the first thing when I got it out this season is that it would start to cut out, miss, backfire & I can’t figure out what the problem is?? The first thing & every time is I will look & see if there is little peace’s of grass sticking out around were those shields are that wrap around the head & if there is 9 out of 10 times the mice have gotten in under stuff & will chew on the wires to the coils!! I thought maybe some of this might help you out Zach!! If you ever have any other questions on some of that stuff I’d be more than happy to help you out!! Awesome video buddy & remember keep up all the good work!!

good job, well done. you cut a little bit to low for my taste. 3" cut height is all you need. now you can cut my grass. Lol. them 19 hp Kholer's are perfect motors for that 1040 Cub, which looks great considering where it came from. i owned a few Button comercial 52" walk behinds for my lawn company i had a long time ago. i took the Briggs off and replced them with 21hp Kholers and they ran forever. what i prefer for a rider..is them Commercial Kawasaki 27 hp you find on 1990s 61" Scag Hydro turff tigers. omg..talk about easy to maintain, plenty of power. last forever. one fault, was the airfilter..always got buggered up with grass clippings, so keeping that airfilter clean is a must. drain the gas for winter storring zach, i always used synthetic Mobil 1 in my New motors to break them in properly also. Oh..the cutter housings on the mower deck..them will need to be changed out eventually. i know their expensive, but well worth to include them in on the rebuld.

Koehler has crap for quality control. My new 2018 cub couldnt start in winter for blowing snow. Valves were so far out of spec it’s amazing it started when warm. Reset and now she’s a gem. Reading the web, their lack of quality control is well known.
