This is the channel I've been waiting for. Thanks, Jeff. My boss recently got a slightly modified riding mower. It's the General Lee, horn included. Looking to sneak some work in, when he isn't looking, and get the man where he needs to be. If you've got any input for a racing mower, I'm all ears. Thanks again

An excellent job. The wiring, and carburetor. I have done 2 engine swaps, a murry 38 inch cut, had a 11.5 Briggs, changed to a 18.5 Briggs opposed 2 cyl. Went very easy. Briggs for Briggs. Then a 40 inch cut Murry went from a 12.5 Briggs to a Kohler V twin 25 horsepower. Going to the Kohler was more difficult, mainly going from a 1 inch crankshaft to a 1 1/8 crankshaft. The mower the Kohler came from used an electric PTO , the Murry used the mechanical blade engagement. Trying to find a 1 1/8 pulley for the mower deck is mission impossible. I took apart an old electric PTO and used a lower piece that could adapt the 1 inch pulley to the 1 1/8 pulley. Then very carefully get everything lined up then weld. I was luck to have the drive pulley for the mower transmission. I cut the lower pulley off the 1 inch pulley set. It works great, the lower pulley runs true no wobble up and down or side to side. I can say having twice the horsepower is definitely an added plus. 😊 Also I wound up having to use duel exhaust. I use 2- 6 horsepower mufflers sounds good, and still has much more power than the 12.5 Briggs.

Hello there. Thank you for the great video. I noticed you said the engine is only 16 hp. I failed to notice how large the deck was for that lawnmower. Maybe it was a 42 or a 46. However, if you think back 25 years ago, they were putting a 12, 13 and 14 hp engines on mowers that size. I don’t know why they’ve increased the horsepower so much. I’m not complaining though. I have a 42 inch “Troy Bilt” with an 18 hp “Braggs & Scratton” engine and a 19 1/2 hp I can put on it if the 18 hp goes out. Both engines are in good running condition so far and are Braggs & Scratton (I’ve gotten caught up with the “Taryl Fixes All” crowd and nicknames for all engine makes). So let’s see how this turns out when you replace that “Krohler”. I do hope the “carbitrator” is nice and clean. By the way, you are so blessed to have all of those junk motors. I would love to have all of those for parts. I am 47 years old and have had a change of career and gone self-employed. I am slowly starting to build up a stock of broken or replacement engines but now I need some tractors and stuff.

When do you know if you need the spacer on the pully, if your old engine didn't have it yet the new one has it and both shafts are the same length
@jeffslawnmowerrepairandservice7 ай бұрын
good question. It is for belt alignment so you have to look and see if belts are straight when the pulley is installed

Have you tried a engine swap with the Briggs Opposed on a electric clutch tractor just to see what would have happened?
@jeffslawnmowerrepairandservice2 ай бұрын
Not yet! But most likelt the battery would go dead after awhile because not enough amps to recharge it

I have a huskee with a 19 hp kohler courage and it smokes when I idle down and shut it off but otherwise runs pretty decent but I just changed the oil and seen some really fine metal in it. Do you think mines doing the same?
@jeffslawnmowerrepairandservice Жыл бұрын
Some finer shavings/glitter in the oil is o.k. and not uncommon, in this video it was major failure

I have this motor in my Troy bilt bronco. It smokes like a freight train on start but after about 5 minutes it stops. I changed the valve cover gasket and don't see any oil dripping anywhere. Any way, what's a good motor I can swap it with. I really rather get a new one but this video intrigued me and gave me hope I can save the lawn mower. lol

If you want another Kohler than I'd say either a Kohler command or pro. The courages were trash new. Or you can go kawasaki, you can never go wrong with a kawasaki. I have an old dixie chopper with a 23hp kawasaki fh680v and it has over 9,000 hours, still runs but started leaking oil and getting hard to start so figured I'd change it.

Rearrange your steps such as disconnect battery/starter and fuel and choke throttle cable before motor mounts

I believe that was an extension wire I added to extend the black kill/ground wire that goes to the coils/magnetos. I should have painted it black.

@jeffslawnmowerrepairandservice7 ай бұрын
You would have to use the model number, and probably serial number too off of the engine to look up the actual alternator specs. that the engine has.

Because i have my pressure washing equipment on my pick up truck. i was thinking about using a motor like this for a pressure washer. The question is do they make a gear reducer that is L-shaped to mount a pump on it?
@jeffslawnmowerrepairandservice Жыл бұрын
That is a good question. I don't know if that is available or not.. I do know that many residential style pressure washers have a pump that mounts on the bottom for vertical shaft engines.. Horizontal shaft engines seem to be the standard for industrial pressure washers in my experience..
@realcleanecspressurewashin6387 Жыл бұрын
Thanks but the residential ones are not sufficient for Pro Pressure Washing. I'll keep looking.@@jeffslawnmowerrepairandservice

I got a Briggs and Stratton 14.5 HP I/C twin cylinder with no oil filter placement and my motor retards when on low throttle. I guest I need to rebuild my carburetor too.
@jeffslawnmowerrepairandservice Жыл бұрын
it's an easy one to rebuild if you can remove the main jet and nozzle. Sometimes it gets stuck and it is easy to strip it trying to get it out.
@georgeearls3338 Жыл бұрын
If this was not operator error, and it was caused by to much fluid in the crank case, being overfilled by gas. usually means a needle valve stuck, or bad float. Where did all that gas and oil go?

Yes carb flooded. Good question... He said the engine had been smoking for quite some time, several over lawnmowings, he has several acres to mow and I think it burned out/blew out through the muffler

Can't imagine what happened at Kohler. They use to make bullet proof engines and then came the courage. I have a 1968 IH Cub Cadet 125 that I bought in 1971 with a Kohler cast iron K301 12hp engine . Used for lawn duty and snow blower and other yard duties for over 50 years now. Refreshed once about 20 years ago and still running strong today. Seems like all the stuff anybody makes today is junk in comparison .
