I have the same mower. I have had it for 5 yrs. now. It's been a good mower except for two problems I have had. 1st. was noticed right away. I am not always capable of mowing when the grass needs mowing. Either I haven't got the time due to working, or the weather doesn't permit it. Thus, sometimes my grass gets taller than I would like and sometimes it's still damp from previous weather. It was times like those that the side chute would clog up and I was constantly having to stop and unclog it. I fixed the problem by cutting the bottom brace of deck there at the chute to allow grass more space to discharge. No biggie and it worked well. The 2nd. problem just recently happened. Even after cleaning the underside of the mower after every use, the deck is rusting out. I have had mowers for 12 to 15 yrs. without ever having a deck rust out. I ordered a new deck and when it came in, I figured out the problem. The mower weighs right at 90 lbs., but I could literally pick up the deck with two fingers. It's super light weight and very thin metal. If I ever have to replace this mower, I assure you I will not be getting another Cub Cadet if I can find anything heavier built.

I am going thru the same problems right now. The deck seems to bend in the middle when lifting the front wheels, Deck is rusting out as well. VERY THIN deck. I am buying a replacement deck and will get another 3-4 years out of it before buying a different brand that is more robust!!

Plan on buying a carburetor for this mower after a year or two..About 14.00 on Ebay..If your mower won't start spray some starter or carburetor cleaner in the carburetor..If it runs for about 10 seconds or longer and quits it is the carburetor...

Hiya - Thank you so very much for this video! Like you, my old mower broke for good two wks ago... Also, like you, did lots of research and then bought this very same Cub Cadet yesterday. I am SO grateful for this video as I am about to embark on getting mine ready and using it for the first time, when it decides to not rain here, lol. Thanks again for this!! Watching it now.... Will add more after I watch this video of yours in its entirety... Love your beautiful doggy! I share my life with four canine hoodlums, lol. =)

DLionheart You are welcome.This is exactly why i do this. I would rather watch someone do what im searching for so i wont make mistakes when i go to do it. Many time the directions really aren't that detailed and leave you wondering how they got to that point. If I can help its all worth it. Thank you for viewing and enjoy that mower. I just did a video on maintenance for this mover. Every year i go through my mower and this is the first year for this one so time to get it ready for a new season. Check the blade change oil, spark plug and air filter. So next year you can come back and see that video and prep your mower for a new season of work. Thanks for viewing, again congrats and enjoy the mower.

Soon as we have a day with no rain - will attack my jungle out there, lol. Thanks again - even more excited about my new mower, thanks to you! =D Oh! Will come on back here and give a shout out to you and the viewers out there, once I do actually use my new yard machine! Then will let you know if - just like you - I am still happy with this pretty new working toy! ;D

Just make note of the box and as i did check it over after unpacking. and the customer service is very helpful if anything is scratched,damaged or missing the ship a replacement the next day. Also its a Consumer Reports pic for a mower. Congrats Wendy and enjoy.

Thanks for this video. I bought a 300 model last week. Everything is as advertised. Though, moving the mower without the engine engaged is a bit tough as the plastic piece is in the way of where you’d normally put your hands. Also, it’s not the best with any yard with many pivots as you can’t mutually turn the mower (pick it up and reorient) without engaging the self-propel (and having the wheels spin in the grass). Perhaps I’m missing something though?
@TheShackHome
@TheShackHome 4 жыл бұрын
Alex Scrimpshire Thanks for the comment. Personally I haven't ran into this situation. When I go to pivot the mower to turn around I pull back and push down disengaging the wheels. once I'm ready I simply push forward and the wheels once again engage. I may take some practice but I'm sure once you get the hang of it you'll enjoy this mower. I will say this isn't the best for a small yard.

I am amazed at the fact you can keep it going. The motor in my 500 series, won’t stay running You can only haul these things back so many times. We’ve mowed our lawn, maybe six time in four years. Still have issues. Suggested to use Rec gas, change plug, why it’s so new Six our seven hours total use and push it back to the shade and get the John Deere. Which is old, like 1984 old. Somebody makes a good push mower. Just don’t know who.

QUESTION: I got a new mower this year. It is very similar to this one shown in the video. I'm a bit concerned this time, though. The first two times I mowed, it started on the first pull every time. I then changed oil after 6 hours - as I was told. It started on the first pull, but not as easy. This time was the fourth time I mowed, and each time took 3 pulls to start it. It takes me about three hours to mow the yard, so I usually take a couple breaks while mowing. Before putting it away, I tried REALLY hard and got it to start on the first pull, but it was not "effortless" with one pull like before. Why is this?
@TheShackHome
@TheShackHome 5 жыл бұрын
Michael sorry I'm not sure what the problem could be, Mine 80% starts on the first pull a few times I ran out of gas it took a few pulls an occasion it will take 2. Mostly it will start on the first pull. It may need the carb adjusted. Sounds like something simple though.

The review is of a new Cub Cadet, mine is 2 years old (into season 2) and has already stopped working. I am waiting for the part (Cable - Control ERS 63.00 WL) 946-05105A This part controls the engine shut off, so if you should slip and lose control of the mower the motor will shut off causing the blade to stop spinning. Cub Cadet needs to upgrade the cable to something stronger and bigger. 1/8 inch cable would last forever?
@TheShackHome
@TheShackHome 6 жыл бұрын
K Simpson thanks for the heads up. something to keep in mind. So far into my 2nd year mine has had no issues what so ever. But cables and general maintenance is just the nature of the beast. No different than the upkeep of a car. 2 different people can but the same model and both have different issues. Cables being pulled continually are something to keep an eye on. They are high wear items. Thanks again K S.

Thanks for the video! My 83 yr old father is looking for a self propelled mower. The speed control of this looks perfect. His lawn has quite a few curvy garden beds to mow around and we've heard that the rear wheel drive mowers are harder to do the turns with. A front wheel drive mower you'd just push the handle down to turn it and the drive wouldn't be an issue. After using this for as long as you have, how do you think the rear drive would handle curves? Thanks!

Love an toys I don't think it would ba an issue. I.m here in Texas helping my aunt and she has the same mower but with electric start. She can't pull to start. She has strength issues and a few health from a bout with cancer. Her back yard has winding land scape and she still mowes here lawn every few days, a little at a time. She is 73 If it has sharp curves. A riding mower might be even better. I'd like to get on I'm on an acre and it's a lot of walking to mow it

Alan i truly enjoy this mower. If any complaint i would say it would be the bag. I used the rear bag today to see how it would do and it just didn't seem to throw the clippings far enough back in the bag. It would only fill may be not quite half seemed to get a lot of buildup at the entry to the bag. That's why I hardly ever use them. I get tired of only getting a pass or two them having to stop and dump the bag. Too much time wasted for me. I prefer to just mulch the grass but every now and then I will bag. But with that said the clippings were amazingly fine cut almost to a fine grinding. That I didn't expect. That's great for the mulch effect. One pull and it starts absolutely love the my speed. I use no energy to push this mower. Lawn care is fun again. Thanks for viewing Alan and thank for the question.

I had to give up on the bag also. Got tired of unclogging the entrance to it. Looks awesome but doesn't work!

My bag works great but the piece on the right side literally shook off of the machine during use, like off the melding.

Hello, great review. Is there a oil drain under the deck? Or do you have to tilt the mower upside down to change drain the oil? Thanks.

Azael tilt on it's side. I'm actually going to do just that in 2 weeks for my annual oil change getting ready for spring.

The Shack Thanks. Seems every new mower is a tilt drain now. Bad design choice in my opinion.

Azael I made a mistake i went to change the oil today and this has a drain plug at the bottom of the fill tube. I don't like this i have to let the oil drain onto the deck and drip down through a hole but it also drained under the motor and dripped down the shaft where the blade connects, it mad a mess. i think the TD (tip and drain) method would be much less messy or a drain under the deck. sorry i was wrong, so i did a video on changing the oil, spark plug, air filter and sharping the blade.

Thanks for making this video! Do you know what to do if the pull cord is stuck and won't budge more than a few inches?

Suzanne sound like the top of the mower need to be pulled off ad see what the hold up is. No way of knowing till you pull it off and see if anything may have broke off or something came loose and jamming it.

I just purchased one yesterday (5/4/2019) from Tractor supply. It was on sale for 296.00 and I got 10% off, plus another 30. Anyhow, I've still keeping my 20 year old cub cadet. It's a tank. I purchased a new one bc I decided to bag grass at my new home. I no longer had the bag for my old cub cadet. Thus my reason for buying a new one. In comparison to quality to my old one, I'm concerned about the new one. The entire back end of the mower is nothing but plastic held on to the deck by 3 screws on each side of the deck. All your handle assembly is held to the deck via the cheap plastic housing on the back of the deck. All your handle torque during operation, and with the weight of the bagger with grass in it is heavy, the bagger clips on to that black cheap plastic. I can bet this is a major weak point and design flaw. I in no way see this design holding up. I'm taking my mower back for a refund and going to look a for a mower that is a solid metal deck and handle assembly attached better.

Larry nothing is built like it was 20 years ago. Believe me I feel your pain when I buy a tool and see how much plastic is incorporated in them now it discuses me. But they want to keep cost down on everything unfortunately. Sorry to her your taking it back. Mine is doing great my only concern is the system that drives the mower. The longevity and repair cost is my main concern for this mover. Hope you find what you're looking for thanks for the info on the older Cubss..

Do you have any issue with bagging? Mine seems to leaking from the top right and left corner of the catcher frame. Blows right in my face. I’m not sure if the frame is the issue here.

new han no i don't I get nothing blowing does a great job. Is this a recent problem or is your mower new. Id recheck the way the bag was assembled and make sure the tabs are all properly connected the bag should be fairly tight

bought one and used it 3 times. Has less than an hour on it. No start!!! I put Mechanical in a bottle in it, clean carb, air filter is clean. It will fire with carb cleaner and then fail to run. The first time I buy an expensive lawn mower and it runs worse than my cheaper ones! Any ideas?
@TheShackHome
@TheShackHome 6 жыл бұрын
well if no start and it had fuel in it. id check the carb to make sure it had fuel going to it then id take the spark plug out and check for firing. There isn't a whole lot to these engines. If no spark from spark plug your magneto may be faulty. this new id call customer service and see if they have an authorized service shop near and hopefully cover the repair cost . another thought you have to pull the handle to start the mower the safety switch could also be faulty electronics can go out anytime.again see it it is under warranty.

It depends on the engine manufacturer. Some have you screw it all the way in and the manual should tell you which is correct.

Edward im confused. I dont know of anything blocking the blade. The only thing under the deck is a cover for the drive unit from the motor to the rear wheel drive. There are no pipes of any kind under the deck

Not True whatsoever! Stalls, boggs, chokes and DIES at grass above 4.25 inches. I had to reweld front and rear wheel settings to raise the too low settings this mower comes stock with. After I did and hope for the best it's still bogs and stalls and dies with the damn grass at 4.25 in and I'm cutting it at 3 now! This is the worst lawn mower I've ever had and I've owned five in my lifetime all been used mtds Craftsman mowers I was hoping for the best when I bought a CubCadet -- man am I sorry I did! Never again!
