I wonder if you could use a drop of super glue to keep them in place. I'm fixing to do my drive barrels as well. I'm leaving the driveshaft in. Looks like too much work to remove the rear fenders and axle lol

@codyswilley yeah that should work, just something to keep the barrels in place while installing the driveshaft.

Excellent video, I have a 3184 and was mowing when it just stopped. Took the rear fender assembly off as mine is still under going upgrades and saw the coupler no longer attached. KZbin search took me to your video with part numbers. Thank you for this!

Well done! Thanks for sharing. You have a very nice 2166, it looks new! I'm getting ready to pull the engine in my 2135 to re-seal it and wanted to see about disconnecting the driveshaft.

Great video! Just replaced the whole drive shaft and barrels on on my dads ‘95 Cub Cadet 2130. I took it out without removing the body, but took the body off to reinstall it. 8 bolts to get it off. Unhook the wires for the seat, two bolts next to the seat, 4 bolts (2 per side) on the floorboard, and two bolts to get the gas and brake pedal removed. Takes about 15 minutes to take the body off of it and then you have much better access to the shaft for using an impact to remove and reinstall. Then you don’t have to work upside down 🙃

Great video. Thanks for sharing! I have this same exact lawnmower. Yesterday my barrel bearings went out. I went to the dealer and ordered the 2 sets of barrel bearings. I took mine apart to remove the shaft. I had to grind the burs off of the flange pieces. While I took the black plastic/dashboard off, at the bottom in the battery compartment area, there are 2 gray push button things. Do you have any idea what these are for?? I think you could have seen them both when you were laying down on your back installing the shaft. I will look tomorrow. I didn't even know they existed until I took the steering wheel off to get the black plastic dashboard off. If you can't answer my question, do you have any idea how I can find out, outside of sending cub cadet an email, to which I'm not certain they would even reply, especially in a timed fashion. lol! The mower you have was a great find and the repair that you did was great too. Hopefully, I hear back from you. 🙂

I can't say I really know what parts you're referring to as I don't believe I came across them while doing this repair... if you ask your local MTD / Cub Cadet dealer they would probably have some insight on what those parts are and their purpose.

Probably what you are referring to is the PTO reverse kill safety switch

@@kinghenry8615 Thanks! You are exactly right. On the left, it is supposed to disengage the blades from turning when the reverse pedal is pushed down, 'PTO reverse kill safety switch' sounds like an appropriate name. On the right, the button engages when you push the brake pedal. Your information is accurate and precise. Thank you for replying. 🙂

Thanks for the video. I have the same mower that I’ve used a lot . It was used when I got it so I’ll probably have to replace them in the near future.😮

I am having a very hard time doing what you just did .While moving my driveshaft around my coupler fell off .Now I'm back to square one.I used gasket silicone to glue the barrels in place. I used scotch tape to hold the front coupler onto the drive shaft. I got the rearcoupler mounted. But now there's no room to put the front coupler back on. I about killed myself using my pushmower to mow real tall grass in one hundred degree temp here in Texas.

Great video. I rescued a 2135 got it running, mowed a bit with it, and the bearings must have gone out on the motor side of the shaft. Thanks for the upload. Do all 2000 series use those bearings?

@@juliusfonferek Both ends need barrels! It could be twisted at the motor and at the rear. I cant believe it could move at all.

@buckfiden6187 wow, must've been a chain reaction where one side going out caused the other end to do the same.
