I'm familiar with cleaning the odd carburetor but the issue I was having was getting the choke knob off. My eye's aren't what they once were and it looked like there was some kind of screw at the bottom of that hole. The problem was seeing what screwdriver to use. Apparently it just pops off. LOL. My neighbor thanks you. He left gas in his machine over the summer and he asked me to get it going for him. Thanks.

@small_engine_repair
@small_engine_repair Жыл бұрын
Hi John. In this video I talk about where to spray the carb cleaner, but actually dont show using it. I do point to the passage ways with the straw that comes with the cleaner. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZm2k2igpduVaM0 How much? Just a few sprays to make sure the fluid is moving through the passage ways and it not blocked. Be sure to wear safety glasses when using carb cleaner. Otherwise you could end up running to a faucet and flushing your eyes. I might have experience doing this, not fun!!

I mistakenly left fuel in the tank over the summer and mine wouldn't start up when I did some pre-winter prep. I followed the steps and it got it working again. One thing I didn't have was a ratchet extender to get the one hex nut in the top right corner but other than that it was easy with the tools I had.

Hello. Before i start tearing things apart, would it be easier to try and completely drain the gas and run some seafoam thru it? I mean, this is only 3 years old and i cant start it already. Lol

Is there a truck to removing the choke knob without breaking off the top of the lever? And now that I've broken that off, how do i get the new one that i ordered on?
@small_engine_repair
@small_engine_repair 10 ай бұрын
Yeah its a dumb design. I have broken a few. I use a screwdriver driver and slowly start working it up, moving around so it does not get bound up. Finding one, yeah that is a joke as well. I have had success just using a screw to attach it.
@bobjones2660
@bobjones2660 10 ай бұрын
I ultimately went with plan B, broke the throttle itself trying to get the lever off, so I just bought a new carb and lever. lol. (It basically went - break the top of the lever getting the knob off, give up trying to get the lever out of the throttle assembly, break that, replace carb. Luckily it was only $50.)

Mine does not start I pull out the spark plug and cleaned up black stuff. Then it starts. Great. But a few minutes later,when I try to start it again it does not. I look at the spark plug it has a little bit of black, I clean again, and then after a few pulls, it starts. What could be the issue here? It should start whenever i pull it right? Shouldn't need to clean a plug each time
@small_engine_repair
@small_engine_repair Жыл бұрын
If it is turning black that quick then the engine is running to rich. Correct, you should not need to pull the plug each time before starting. Once you get it running, will it run with the choke off?

Why do snow blowers seem to lack any kind of air cleaner, or am I missing something?

cub cadet makes this more difficult than it should be. The oil drain line isn't long enough so it will spill on the back if you're not fast enough. Same with the carb drain nut at the bottom.

Unless you have some kind of small engine repair experience the average home owner IS NOT GONNA TAKE THE CARBERATOR OF A CUB CADET ENGINE APART... I have extensive experience with small engines and speek of my own experience... it requires mechanical ability....when all else fails hire an expert and do it right.....speaking for myself cause who else would I speek for

I respectfully ask that you speak for yourself. This is great instructional video that anyone can take advantage of and follow. If you're the type that calls service for anything that's your prerogative. All the guys I know easily maintain their lawnmower and snowblowers and they're desk junkies from 9 to 5. Small engines don't need much. Change oil, sparkplug and clean carb. If all fails, then call for service.
@MarkSc1
@MarkSc1 Жыл бұрын
@hyperA380 who else could I speek for.... the newer small engines are built for very little maintainence....the CARBERATOR has very little room for error and almost absolutely no adjustments for air flow or fuel flow,no air cleaner or filter,not mine any way
@hyperA380
@hyperA380 Жыл бұрын
@@MarkSc1 that's true about newer carbs..mine is the same which is why I would most likely leave it to the pros when it comes to air mixture adjustments and fine tuning. BUT I was referring to just taking it apart and cleaning it. This almost always fixes start up issues and it's easy to do even with newer carbs.
