Bro, this is crazy. I have always struggled with left hooks combo but this simple footwork fixed it. Try this, and your left hook wont lose power and ANY righthand shot after that will x10 power and balance. I tested it with left hook right hand and was blown away, but whats craziest was when u apply this to the left hook, right hook combo. Trust me when u throw that combo using this method ur righthook feels like an explosion on the bag, and its so much faster. Thanks so much for this tip bro!!!

I love that you're breaking it down to this level of detail. I firmly believe that we need to learn the "why" before we can properly learn the "how" in boxing. Understanding the kinetic chain is absolutely fundamental not just for beginners, but for experienced boxers who are at the level where improvement is only going to happen by drilling down into subtle but important details.

@@Charlessalbox yeah i noticed many coaches will teach something and then when you watch them fight or spar they don't do it. I was a good basketball player before I started boxing and it was the same way. Most people, coaches included don't teach what their doing. They just teach fundamentals they were taught even if the fundamental might have a negative effect like in this case. Imo the power advantage one might isnt substantial enough to overcome the balance and speed you lose which imo is much more important for boxing.

My thing is this I have picked up different techniques in boxing over the years and have learned from different trainers who have taught differently but their basics have stuck with me as I added to my boxing repertoire. As students of the sweet science we should never stop learning and should always keep an open mind. The traditional way of throwing the lead hook as we know it is to pivot with the lead foot and with hours of training in the gym the transition from hook to cross becomes seamlessly smooth and fluid. With that said I can see why this may rattle a few cages but the concept isn't flawed or BS Per se it is just different from what is traditionally taught. Although I would not instruct any boxer to "NEVER PIVOT ON THE FOOT FOR THE LEAD HOOK!" which is what the title suggest, I would say if you want to throw a hook combo quicker implement this but it is more emphasis of touching your opponent. The traditional lead foot pivot is when you want to sit down on your punches to add power. You are generating more power through your hook with the full weight of your body behind it from the lead foot pivot allowing you to swivel your hips slightly more and creating more torque. With a rear foot pivot your hip torque is at least 25% to 35% less if not more because you can't get as much rotation of your hips. I would agree that you would be quicker in your hook combos but you wouldn't have as near the power as pivoting with the lead foot.
@Charlessalbox2 жыл бұрын
The stipulation for not pivoting is for combination punching and not for loading up. Combination punching is not for achieving maximum power it is for delivering several submaximal punches in the shortest time possible. This goal is flawed when the "Anchor" or planted foot for balance is made to shift from one foot to the other.

Very very very good explanation. The words you chose to use was very eloquent to describe such simple, yet, complex in practice, technique. Gervonta davis does this very effectively. Only time he pivots for his right hook in southpaw on his lead foot is when hes really trying to sink the punch in. But other than that, hes throwing in combinations in which he slightly lifts his rear foot off to throw hooks in rapid succession with equal amounts of conviction while keeping his lead foot anchored.

When I was tought the fundamentals I was tought to rotate the lead foot. And I've even watched the pros and I see both, some rotate some don't. Personally I rotate, there is a reason why any boxing gym and every boxing coach teaches to rotate the lead foot, which turns over your hips to put power in the hook. Also if you don't overexaggerate the foot rotation it shouldn't slow you down either. Also over the years you adapt to only needing to rotate the foot slightly to get the same result. I definitely want to see more on this channel, it's new to me. I usually learn alot from precision striking, coach Anthony, Tom yankello(world class boxing channel), Tony Jeffries, mcload boxing is also a good one(I like how they teach soviet/international techniques.so I hope I find something on this channel that I can learn from. I've been training/boxing for about 13 years, and there is at times more than 1 ways to do things, and even though I disagree with this video I think maybe in other videos I could get something out of this channel. I believe it's possible that anyone can bring something to the table, and I love to learn and try different stuff. I love to learn and develop a I can with boxing.and the learning don't ever stop. There is always something to learn no matter how much someone knows

Hi Kenneth - I value and am thankful to hear your perspective. Through all the things that I have taught on this Channel I believe this is one of the biggest that I believe will improve many boxers' games. Part of me feels that I should not reveal such important gems because I have my own amateurs to train but then I love the sport so much that I'm constantly looking for perfection in the sport. I only ask that you give it a go and if it doesn't work for you go back to the pivot and of course watch my other tutorials 😅👍🏾

@@Charlessalbox I would definitely check out your stuff, I do appreciate the fact that you do take the time to put out your knowledge for us to learn. I have learned many different ways of doing things from. Different coaches, I do have my opinion on what works for me, but I do have an open mind ,and in boxing I find that there is not a one all,be all answer to things, I wouldn't say one way is right and the other is wrong. On this particular subject I was once told that we are tought to pivot the front foot as a beginner to develop turning the hips, but as a boxer develops they move on from pivoting the front foot. But I been doing this 13 years and I'm comfortable pivoting my front foot, but I will forsure give it a try because I have learned many things like that before. I also learned with some techniques that there is a time and place for one way, and a time to use the other technique. That's what I love about boxing, even the unorthodox ways can be successful.it truly is a science and lives up to the name "sweetscience" I'll never knock you for taking the time to teach something that we get to learn for free on KZbin, and my boxing has evolved big time over the years by me learning from coaches such as yourself. Thanks for the tips. I always felt pivot on lead foot made combinations tougher to perform and bit awkward at times. Whenever I wasn't pivoting due to pressure or lack of time lead hook felt more dangerous and easier to land due to it being harder to spot. Especially when thrown from bit lower than usual lead hand position. With enough of downward upward arc it became punch with highest hit success in situations when I didn't pivot on lead foot. Now I understand why so big thanks.

@loverofhumanity Жыл бұрын
Yeah even though there's less power when you don't pivot its as you said just much more quicker and harder to block. Imo a hook has enough power to knockout guys because of the angle in which it is hitting the jaw or temple anyway. Straights typically don't cause knockouts because they dont cause the same rotation in the brain. You're correct though I noticed in sparring when I pivot its just too slow and usually gets blocked. As you said when you just throw it quickly without thinking about it in combination and just using that downward upward arc like you said to give it speed and momentum it becomes much easier to land and lethal. I learned the pivot from a russian coach but will try what coach suggested.

Your principles carry over to kickboxing as well, where over-rotaring on the lead leg makes you very vulnerable to low kicks. And the bagwork at the end... I appreciate you didn't "cheat" as well, and intentionally make the pivot example look worse... It looked fine - but doing it without the pivot was clearly better!

The unpredictability of a fighter who can use a combination of techniques is a formidable opponent 👍 absolutely top class instruction and explanation of not only technique but tactics too.
