OK guys so in this video I'm dropping some insight into what it means to be a slick boxer and how to go about doing it.
Remember guys develop the fundamentals and then build a layer of deception (style) so that your opponents understand you less.

I agree completely. There are a few good coaches on KZbin but they don't take the time to explain how everything fits together or how drills translate into real application. The only one close is Russian School of Boxing for details. And he doesn't give the drills and teach the importance of rhythm in building mechanics and muscle memory.

Very good advice! Know thyself. I’m a tall lanky counterpuncher. When I shadow box, I practice counterpunching against a variety of opponents and styles. Like most counterpunchers, I hate boxers with unconventional styles as they are very hard to counter. Fast feet and fast hands are my weapons. Distance is my ally. I practice getting in, throwing combinations and getting out fast. I practice fast attacks and escapes from various angles and directions. I practice feints and other deceptions to draw my opponent in and encourage him to throw the punches that I want him to throw, preferably off balance or with negligible power. Since the last thing I want is to get pinned down in a corner and be forced to trade punches with a strong inside fighter, I practice slipping, covering up and escaping.

Subscribed! I like this video, I recently watched your video about pivoting the lead foot when throwing the lead hook. Though I was taught to pivot my lead foot, and I didn't agree with the information in that video at the time. But I did give it a try (several times) and I came to realize like many things in boxing, that there is a time and place to use both techniques. I noticed when I threw the hook without the lead foot pivot (of course I still put hip into it)it felt faster. While the way I was taught ,pivoting the front foot with the lead hook, felt more powerful because I feel like I put more hip into the lead hook. And the fact that I been training it that way since I learned to throw a hook many years ago, so of course that way is going to feel more natural to me.I feel like there is a time and place for either hook technique. But in this video I really liked the drills. And you broke them down and clearly explained how to do it, then demonstrated the drills. I have 2 days of the week of my training schedule that i use specifically for drilling and practicing techniques, and I save this video to do these drills on my drill days. Good Footwork is crucial to develop as a boxer. Nothing can be done correctly if the feet aren't right. I can't stress enough how vital it is to have good footwork. I practice and drill footwork heavily cuz I like to have the footwork advantage on my opponent. I love to use angles and come in and out of range slick, and often moving laterally both directions while staying well balanced. I agree that every beginner should learn basic footwork before even learning to punch. I am interested with learning everything I can, I keep an open mind. If it makes since and I could use it in boxing then I want to learn as much as possible. So it will be interesting to see the Cuban style of boxing and learning what the differences are and use everything I can to evolve in my boxing. I appreciate all you do and I enjoy learning anything I can. God bless you and yours bro.

These videos are priceless. Would like to know what you think about the ‘Gazelle step’ (I’m not sure if that’s what it’s actually called). Hello, Charles! I am an Amateur Boxer and I am currently trying to put together a bit of a blog/article about different regional styles of Boxing (Soviet, Cuban, Mexican etc) and I was wondering if you would perhaps like to add something? Maybe just a slight description of the basic fundamentals of Cuban Boxing style and what makes this style different from others? Of course, Cuban style was influenced a fair bit by the Soviet Boxing style, but it has evolved into it's own thing however, so yeah, comment something below if you are interested and I will add it to my blog and give credit to you for your help. Not sure when it will be ready, but I already have written a fair bit on other styles. Cuban style is a favourite of mine and I constantly learn new things from your videos and I use them while teaching fighters myself. Thanks!
@Charlessalbox
@Charlessalbox Жыл бұрын
OK, the Cuban technique is the only thing that connects all Cuban fighters... Lara, Rigondeaux, La cruz, Cruz, Kindelan etc all have the same technique. How the boxers themselves interpret this technique is down to the boxer and this is sometimes confused with styling. You can see Andy Cruz fights with a different style to Rigo. So the Cuban Style doesn't really exist but i understand what you are trying to say. The reason why most people perceive a Cuban Style is because the gameplan used by Cuban coaches in international tournaments is for the fighters to use their feet; namely because most of the world doesn't utilise good footwork in their domestic training programs.
@lifeiscreepingdeath
@lifeiscreepingdeath Жыл бұрын
@@Charlessalbox Thanks for taking the time to respond to me! Yes, I understand that not all Cuban fighters fight in the same way, but I guess that what is meant by the Cuban style is moreso what is taught to fighters by the coaches in the amateurs. For instance, Golovkin is known for fighting like a typical Mexican, but he is not Mexican. I know that footwork always comes first with Cubans and that they are very good counterpunchers who also use nice clean, slick head movement, but one thing I also wondered is whether or not the fighters were/are forcibly trained as southpaws, like with Soviet/Ukrainian boxing. There happens to be a great amount of southpaws from Cuba I see. I also notice that quite a lot of Cuban coaches teach to throw hooks in the same way as Soviet coaches. This is a form of punching that you don't usually find unless it is from a Cuban or a Ukrainian fighter.

Why don't you clench fists just prior to the Puch fully extends? Why do you lean forward? Why do you lift your heel and twist entire feet while throwing the cross? Why is your rear heel constantly up? Why is your guard movable while throwing punches?
@Charlessalbox
@Charlessalbox Жыл бұрын
When throwing for extension i.e. the flexibility for the pubch, clenching works against this. When did I lean - timestamp? And this could be an error while demonstrating and talking. If you step on a Jab then it is likely you may have to step on a Cross. The range for your attacks must be adjusted as your opponent moves otherwise you will lean forward. Your rear foot being up is like having your finger on the trigger instead of being flat and simply holding a gun. Guard movable - timestamp please!

@@Charlessalbox throwing long punches does not require clenching fists? Pay attention if you start teaching young adepts and do not be strict about it this will become bad habit you have got palms entirely opened do not teach young adepts this way....in Ukraine coaches pay attention to details hence despite there is no money we have good boxers ....other issue compare Khyzhniaks style to Usyk, gwozdyk there is no such a thing as Soviet or Cuban boxing anymore everything blended through decades ....greetings from southwest of the UK now.
