I am so glad to have found your video. My podiatrist diagnosed me today w/ cuboid syndrome and gave me a cortisone shot, and I will try these exercises as well. I haven’t been able to run for over a month after I fell and hurt my ankle on a trail. This video gave me such a great explanation as to what has been going on with this condition!

Ex-marathoner, haven't ran in 20-ish years (I'm 64), good health, but thought I was getting "some-kinda'-arthritis" (my best layman's medical term) on the side of my foot. I looked up "pain on outside of middle of the foot", you popped up, and now I'm a cuboidal-manipulating-fool! Thanks for your help!

OK I was totally skeptical at first-- yesterday had a lot of pain but worked through trying to walk normally. Woke up today completely unable to bear weight on my foot- not even a slight bit. I have enough background knowledge to deduce that my cuboid was involved so I jumped off from there in looking up what could be the cause. Found your video and tried the exercises I could manage with the pain, but most importantly did the manual manipulation and I'm totally shocked. It's not perfect yet, but after pressing on it and wiggling it around, i could actually put a bit of pressure on my foot. Thank you so much for making this. I'm training for a marathon and now missed two run days. Hopefully it clears up fully soon bc this was awful. Thought I was going to need crutches

I watched your other video on lateral foot pain. I had surgery on my left ankle where the repaired the paraneal tendon and removed chips of bones a decade ago. On the opposite ankle I was biking a dirt road on a steep grade and I felt a shift on my foot. I stopped and tried to work through it. I ended up turning around cruising down the forrest road where I had to do little to no peddling. I woke up not being able to walk because I couldnt really put weight on my right foot. I watched this video and massaged my foot and my girlfriend started puting pressure on the cuboid area and I felt it go back into place. Its still sore, but I can now walk on it. Thank you for putting this easy to understand video on KZbin.

As a Physician, your explanation and the tips of caution were wonderful. My injury was a over a week ago and re injured to sublux the cuboid completely a days ago. The massage and wriggle is helpful given the stiffen / bruised tissues around the cuboid from the injury. The preventive points for the ice and massage of the distal leg muscles are important indeed. Your style of teaching is very comprehensive and easily understand. Thank you.

I was run over by a van a couple of years ago. I had both legs, 1 arm, 2 fingers and 3 ribs broken. My right leg was severely damaged with a tibia fracture. I also had nerve damage and was not able to lift my foot for some time. Even though I have recovered significantly in the last couple of years, i still feel a lot of stiffness in my right foot. Specifically the outer middle side, affecting the 2 outermost toes. My foot also no longer cracks when i move it like it used to. I don't feel pain while walking but i do feel pain when i roll a spiked ball under my foot. I didn't know what was causing this but your videos are making me think it is the cuboid bone. I am going to see my orthopedic surgeon for this. Thank you

Thanks a lot, I sprained my ankle yesterday and had a lot of pain in the cuboid. I did your strechings and I heard a pop, then my cuboid moved outwards, came out to the lateral side of the foot. Now I can feel a protuberance, its curve, whereas before I couldn't feel it. The pain is gone.

Wonderful video! It is incredibly helpful. Thank you for making it. Long distance/ultra runner. I had my first bout of cuboid issues in 2020 doing (foolishly) 80-85 mile weeks without proper recovery time and self-care (massaging, stretching, icing, rest days - yes, I should've known better). It was a brutal pop and the peroneal tendons and plantar fascia immediately tightened and did not fully release for a very, very long time - not to mention the soft tissue soreness that lasted for what felt like a lifetime. Since the initial injury I've done several 50 mile and 100K races and things were going well until a week ago when out the blue I felt the dreaded POP on a relatively low key treadmill run. Two days later, on a push off, *trying to catch a bus*, it popped out of place again. Thankfully I am well versed/well read on this injury. However, despite the fact that I've gone through this same protocol for the last 2+ years, the thing that bothers me is how sudden the dislocation or subluxation happened again. Nevertheless, this video is really great and very helpful for visualizing the mechanics, how to relocate the cuboid and the importance of paying the proper attention to the kinetic chain. Thanks for this. (Just an FYI: despite the two pops/subluxations in the same week, with proper care and rest this week (I was still able to cycle), the soft tissue soreness has mostly subsided a week later and I anticipate running to some very casual/easy miles within the next week.)

Thank you for the demonstrations - perhaps this will help the pain on the outside of my foot. Do Podiatrists treat neuropathy in the feet? I stopped going to my Neurologist because there wasn't anything more he could do - I did not react well to any of the meds, so there wasn't any Rx that would help.

The answer is yes, but neuropathy has 50+ underlying real causes. All peripheral neuropathy really means is that there is peripheral nerve problems.

Personally the best thing for neuropathy that I have seen is taking pressure off your feet and correcting underlying biomechanical problems and then getting as healthy as possible. This is more effective than creams, lasers and pills in our personal experience.

IMPORTANT QUESTION!! What if when you curl all your toes down, like making a fist with your toes, there is pain OVER the Cuboid? Also, can adhesions and scar tissue FORM a noticeable bump or accumulation of spongy-like mass over the 4'th and 5'th Metatarsals, distally downward from the Cuboid? Also, can a nasty big Bunion that is causing lateral deviation of all the Metatarsals, Cause or Contribute to a subluxation of the Cuboid? If so, and you DO NOT WANT to do surgery on the Bunion to correct the Bunion and deviated Metatarsals, COULD the Bunion induced DEVIATION of the Metatarsals be CORRECTED with any kind of Orthotic? Perhaps use of a Metatarsal Pad, for the Transverse Arch, HELP???? Much Thanks! You're the most Magnificent Wizard of Podiatry! NOBODY explains Anatomy and Physiology the magnificent way that you do!

I, for example, have the sensation of falling backwards when I am standing on my heel, calcaneus. It is for 2 reasons. One is the lateral side, from the right fibula towards tarsal and metatarsals. Like there is some rod placed there. But it was actually part of the bone displaced from a sprain 15 y ago. I can feel it under my fingers. Can't tell which one is. But the ankle is visibly bigger on the right than the left. And transitioning on the right foot is unnatural. Yes there is tunnel syndrome on the right side, and little pain under the heel from bursitis that I got 2y ago... but sometimes my foot relaxes and then I can walk faster. Another is some sphere of energy or cylinder around Achilles down closer to the ankle. That nerve point cut off "will power"makes things more stiff, like when you are in an antigravity rising and falling state, in cars across a hill for example, that funny feeling in my gut...I have actually pain in my stomach from my ankle. For now I do exercises for stronger ankles. Tib bar is an option as well. That's about it. Yes..I can stretch leg, but right is hard and painful. I really need adjusting. It is not easy decision to go to chiropractor. I wait for orthopedic doctor for year now. Don't ask. All the best!

I have arthritis in the calcaneal/cuboid joint, tiny bit of plantar fasciitis. Would the roller and frozen water bottle be helpful or hurtful? I just did a round of physical therapy so have more flexibility/movement in both feet, but still hurt in the morning or after sitting too long.

Generally icing, gentle massage and flexibility show some improvement if there is no significant damage or bone fracture. But always officially check with your doctor if concerned!

Hi, I got a strange pain suddenly started when started using a new shoe I bought. It was all okay. But suddenly I can feel while standing in the public train that when I am turning my left foot towards inner swing it seems that two bones are rubbing with each other (like kit kit sound and like one bone is colliding with the other bone) and pain but outer swing is fine. Still now after two weeks I have the same pain but yes the bones rubbing feeling or kit kit feeling is not there but while pronating it towards inner side it still have that pain. Although normal walking is not an issue now. But I cant twist my foot towards inner side still now. Seeing your great video just now it seems that its a cuboid issue and may be due to using that new shoe it happened. So since the bone rubbing feeling is not there, do I need to start the stretch or give it a more rest and see the progress. Please respond.

I am wondering in PT is a better route to go than simply resting it. I am a high school basketball and need to get back to play as soon a possible and time is precious. Any suggestions?

I need help, i skateboard and years ago i had a severe injury where i rolled my ankle but ny ankle never got hurt instead i believe i popped my cuboid out of place (outwards not inwards into the foot.) for years ive had this gigantic bone sticking out (i assume the cuboid) and now any minor but quick ankle roll type of motion reinjures it all over again. I went to a podiatrist before they said nothing was wrong... im trying to do the massage where you twist the fifth metatarsal and it feels like my cuboid is not going anywhere. On top of that it hurts qiute a considerable amount while doing this exercise. If i know for a fact its the cuboid can i just walk into a podiatrist and get him to pop it back in place for cheap? Cause im bot trying to pay hundreds of dollars and something that will take the doctor a minute to fix?
