Next off season the Dodgers need to bring in pitchers that have a history of staying healthy.Nolan Ryan use to pitch 9 or 10 innings a game, 25 games a year.
@Ekim21144Ай бұрын
Point understood, as he didn't have a lot of injuries and was pretty durable, but let's not get carried away. For his career he pitched in 807 games (773 as a starter), for almost 30 games per year, pitched a career total of 5386 innings pitched, or almost 200 per season. That means he averaged almost 7 innings per game, not 9 or 10. 222 complete games in his career, or about 8 per season. Different era and utilization of bullpen when he pitched than now. These days, it seems the ideal target is 6 innings, with mid relievers and set up guys, followed by closers. That said, LAD rarely seems to get 6 out of their starters.
@stephenburpo7755Ай бұрын
@@Ekim21144 How many starts did pitchers like Nolan Ryan miss due to injury?Not many,That was my point.I personally watched Ryan pitch 8 or 9 scoreless innings and lose.
@Ekim21144Ай бұрын
@@stephenburpo7755 Dude, we're agreeing - reread my very first sentence. Just adding a little context and that it's different these days with the specialist of long relief, mid relief, set up, and closer, etc. He only averaged 8 complete games a season, which is much more than in today's game. Back then 7 or 8 innings was commonplace for a starter, now it's 5 or 6 if lucky. And guys these days are mostly instructed to throw it as hard as they can, so it seems we're seeing a lot more injuries. I mean, the first Tommy John surgery wasn't until 1974 and now multiple guys on just about every roster seem to be out or recovering from it.
