Cuckoo Clock Bellows Replacement With Tyvek Paper - Part 2

I removed the old bellows material with a razor blade and buffed each section with 600 grit sandpaper.
The bellows are now covered with Tyvek paper and the excess paper trimmed off.

I have a cuckoo waiting for bellows and this video will help. Thanks! The tyvek should last much longer than the older material that was used. The contact cement really works well.

@johnhannon, the contact adhesive does work very well, on your gloves also and its very hard to remove.

@@ScottiesClockWorld I have seen others use Titebond wood glue thinned with water. It does not set as quickly as the contact cement. Because of all the surfaces you have to glue at once, I think Contact is the way to go. Maybe use a smaller brush for control of amount applied?

@@johnhannon, I think you are right about the brush size, the one I used was the smallest I had available. I have more bellows to re-paper so I'll get a smaller drush.

Genius. I was thinking about using either Tyvek or salvaged air bag cloth for rebuilding the bellows on my reed organ!

@ohger1, tyvek should do the trick it is pretty strong.

Does Tyvec cone in diffrent thicknesses? What thinkness do you use? Why dont you trip the tyvec on the board? Is there a reason not to cut it all the way to the end off the wood?

Cousins UK and Timesavers USA sell the correct thickness of Tyvek paper.

I use Tarzan's Grip. Others use medium CA glue.

I use the Tyvek paper from cousinsuk.com, but the Timesavers Tyvek is good also. I don't suggest using DHL Tyvek envelopes as they are quite thick and the bellows paper needs to flex hundreds tof times every day.

Is the adhesive you’re using something like rubber cement? Maybe you can tell me the brand. Also, how did you come up with 40mm for the opening? Are all bellows the same size when opened?

I am using contact adhesive in this video, but Tarzan's Grip and CA glue are better options. All the bellows on my cuckoo clocks have opened 40 mm (1 1/2 inches). If you have an intact one you can measure it to be sure.

Not a problem. replacement paper is available for bellows tops and the pipes. Cousins in the UK has it.
