Can you imagine being born, barely able to walk, can't see, only thing you know is to eat, yet you're able to contemplate murder and a takeover of the whole nest? It's survival of the fittest but that's a bit diabolical.

It's no like he is conscious or any sort when he do it, I read that it's just some part of his back when it's touched it makes him do it instinctively, but actually it's just linger for some days after he is born. It goes away after that and he wont try to kill any of the other birds anymore. It's just something that worked more for him to grow and survive, but nature is for the fittest sure.

It's not contemplating anything... It's how their instincts work. It's for their best survival, so the ones that have pressure on their back that push back have a higher chance at survival (more food, less competition) would be the ones who do better. They're not trying to eradicate the host birds completely because if they did, they'd have no nests to lay in...

There was a Cookoo bird who lays its egg in the other bird nest at our farm whic has already 4 egg ,, my dad discovered it and tell me so i just took out that Cookoo bird egg boiled and ate it,,, 2 days later the Cookoo came and lays one egg again lmao I don't know if it was the same one who put her egg earlier.. this time im having other idea to take away the Cookoo baby once its hatched and feed it to our cat

This is an innate reflex action by the baby cuckoo. They did a study where they placed a small stone in the nest of a baby cuckoo and it reacted in the same manner as if the stone was another nestling. That's nature for you.

I once saw a video, which a cuckoo made the mistake of laying it's egg in an eagle's nest. After they hatched, the eagle saw the strange chick and refused to feed it. Then when it came back and caught it trying the push the other chicks out of the nest, they tore it apart and fed it to the other chicks.

This is what I don't understand about evolution Millions of years of evolution and yet not one single mama bird species has the ability to identify if a chick is not of her own? While the cuckoo bird has evolved to give the babies an instinct to kick out other chicks / eggs? Very odd.

Some birds by nature are able to identify cuckoos chicks as foreign but still keep them in their nest, but refuse to feed them. Some other birds are able to distinguish cuckoos through trial and error if they have the brain power to do so, which is why cuckoo generally target smaller bird species that can’t get around the simple notion of: If not friend, why friend-shaped?”

It's my understanding that some birds do recognize the cuckoo chick as an invader but feed it anyway since the mother cuckoo is watching and if the chick dies she flies over and trashes the whole nest. That's what I've heard anyway.

Maybe this is because the cuckoo is similiar to a parasite: While not all the nests of its hosts are affected by the cuckoo, this is rather "unimportant" to the other birds in the big picture. But for the cuckoo it has become one of its most important features. So evolution mostly disregards the other birds defence, while it shaped the cuckoo's deception into a fine art.

Only species of cuckoo which egg dump in any nest they can are the ones who eliminate the competition. species of cuckoos that are specialized to one parasitize one species have babies which simply try to out compete their nest mates and often the nest mates survive alongside the cuckoo chick. In North America, there are no parasitic cuckoos, that niche belongs to the cowbirds and NA cuckoos build nests and raise their young.

They likely did not as with recording the wildlife or taking photos usually it is opted to let nature take corse.. granted though if the person doesn't follow that rule it is also good. Either way, the mom will know something happened in the nest which hopefully doesn't chase her away.

Yep, that's actually how cuckoos take over the neighborhood, since they can't fight bigger birds for territory, they lay eggs in the nests of the competition, and let the babies do the killing. Pretty sick, but very effective😢
