Cudeman JJSK 1 survival bushcraft knife review. A knife designed by JJ Adventure in Spain and manufactured by Cudeman.
This is a small recurve shaped fixed blade.
It is made in either MOVA steel or N695 Böhler steel (AISI 440C) This example ( the MOVA version) I found was a very tough blade that held it edge very very well. This knife I found to be not particularly comfortable due to this "fire steel striker notch" placed on the spine. It actually is not very practical as it doesn't really increase any surface contact with the steel when striking one but only serves to annoy my thumb. It's a tough knife and for some it might be the ants pants but in my hands the ergonomics were all wrong. Just leave off that striker notch and it would get a 10 out of 10, with it it gets a 6 out of 10.

Thanks for the sub and the comments on my videos! Yes it is a small beast of a knife. I personally would like to see a version without the glass breaker pommel and get rid of the striker notch and continue the thumb gimping into this area, then I'd say it would be close to my liking.

The original model had a different notch, that made an enormous spark rain. It was modified to that you have. Keep on doing those excellent vids.

Great video thanks. Looks like the did get a lot right for a bushcraft slash survival knife but for me the hollow gring does not work for hard use survival. But maybe is good for game prep. 90 degree spine is good for more than just the fire steel as it is good for wood processing for fire tinder. I do ot know the size but also looks little small for a stand alone survival knife but with a saw and a axe would be ok.

Yeah Gerber used to rock, I have no experience with recent Gerber's. I mean recent as when they got bought out by Fiskars. I didn't like the TV stuff they did either for what's his face survivor guy ex SAS. I never watch that stuff.

That fire steel striking notch is for enhance the contact surface with the firesteel, almmost surrounding it. But it's not really necessary :)
@BushCampingTools
@BushCampingTools 10 жыл бұрын
Yes the rounded surface is supposed to increase the area but if you take a close look when putting, especially a new or little used rod into the slot, then the area of contact is actually very little as soon as you apply any angle from shallow to large on the notch the contact surface decreases and is really no more than striking the same steel against a acute angled spine or (in the knife choil if it has one)

The Cudeman Entresierras has an interesting jimping pattern. Same steel, 15cm blade. I'll be out bush in a couple weeks giving it a field test.

Hi M8, I have a Fox Hitam Golok in a Bohler Stainless Steel mine is N960Co excellent stuff, but for a new coined word "Bushcraft Survival Knife" I would add the word "Camp" to that, I always felt a good survival knife should be atleast 7 1/2" - 9 1/2"+, and I always backed that knife with a smaller knife. But I alway's wanted to go lite and searched for such a knife, a knife that I could slice, baton and chop with it withought it being too heavy and I could just get by with one knife, after a few years I found my dream knife, Mors Kochanski suggested that a knife should be strong in one of his books, so I looked a 6" blade and Swamp Rat Rodent 6 seemed like a good start, I just didn't like the Tactical look, and it was a little thick, so I had it thinned down, and the top gaurd taken off and now it look's like a beefy Ratmandu on steriods, by thinning it it works good as a slicer, the choil I can choke up for some bushcraft, it baton's great because of the relief edge of a Saber Grind which I Convexed it too it's a Saber Vex Grind now, and one of the best chopper's I ever used in a 6" blade, I also have a vintage Bears and Son MGC recurve damascus hunting survival hunting knife real India Sambar Stag Handles but it's 9 1/2" long, this Cudeman really looks like a good bushcraft camp knife and it seems like a beefy knife so I think it could be used in survival but from my experience I like atleast a 7 1/2" blade to consider it a true "Survival Knife" the only reason I would use my 6" Rodent 6 is because originally it started out as a .265" thick blade and it still is a robust knife, it took me a long time to find a one knife carry that works like what I need a knife for, I'm still trying to get use to using my Leuku as a one tool carry like the Indigenous Saame People use to, but for me, my custom Rodent 6 is my fav.

I like my two Cudeman knives but the handles are too short. My three Joker knives have longer handles for over Medium hands.

Yeah my mini BV could have a slightly bigger grip for sure. I spoke with them about this possible design change many years ago when i did that review but they weren't particularly interested in any changes to that design because it was from Angel Corts apparently. He must have small hands LOL!

@@BushCampingTools That's why Joker knives are better. Cudeman has nice sheaths, but I do not buy knives for the sheath first.

Im a fitter boilermaker, and I can make any or the things u think of. but, there is a shit to import crap that will hurt u, as opposed to what will make u smarter. Ok I got this crap from china, the open/flip is far to fast, like faster than allowed in america, so I let my son play with it for a bit, but tomorrow. Shitty grip,handel was not to spec, and it reall is just a piece of shit as opposed to what i would pay for that. 145 usd
