So there is no such thing as "prolonged tip contact" ?
@dnbmania11 ай бұрын
If you're accelerating vs decelerating at the point of impact you will invariably be in contact for longer. but we're talking milliseconds here. But that rate of change of acceleration (mechanical jerk) is important for a good timing of the delivery compared to a bad strike, and also having 'timed' your acceleration so that your tip speed is at the intended mark as you're reaching the cue ball, all at the highest point of jerk/rate of change of acceleration

@scott. It is certainly very hard to measure any difference in contact time but for sure particularly when playing a screw shot a good player will feel the prolonged tip contact, micro seconds though it will be.

Well, if every strike/shot had the exact same contact time with the tip, there would be no way to generate powerful spin shots. The reason doing things different with your cue action at the same power and point of the cueball can produce such wildly different amounts of spin, is because a smooth acceleration into the contact does cause a fractionally longer grip on the ball by the tip, allowing it to spin the cueball more.

@@AD-kv9kjactually, assuming the same contact time for all shots, more speed gives more spin. Not the contact time. In reality, faster cue has shorter contact time, yet you are able to get more draw because you can hit the ball faster
