In all sports, playing styles, equipment, technique, rules, and even coaching have all evolved in some way. Paying particular attention to the ‘Stance’, Barry talks about some aspects of snooker that have changed. Today, it’s more important to find a stance that is successful and that works for you. Develop it into your pre-shot routine and repeat it over and over again.

I’ve said before I’m so grateful I’m this age of internet to have access to coaching from a legend like this. I’ve gone from an 18 handicap to a 7. I can even enter scratch tournaments now with some confidence.

Hi Barry 😊I used to know a player back in the day in my local club, He used to stand with both feet more or less touching each other 😮 But he was a regular century break maker!! It did look odd but he was a fabulous player!!

@ianwatkins. It never ceases to amaze me how this game can be played at a high standard with what can only be described as a unique way of doing it.

I don't remember exactly in which video about stance you had said the important thing is eye line. It is really the key to me. Game becomes easier with this enlightenment. And glad to see your new clip released.

Good on you Barry, I have been playing for approx 55 years, I am in Australia, I watch Eddie Charlton, I played him a few times in Exhibitions He was a tough bugger , but his stance was the same all the time, & boy he could put on a show on his day, wonderful player. You make a lot of sense, the game over here is struggling, Bathurst panthers had 6 tables now 1, but people work situations change & some of the young blokes know they can’t make any money out of it, which is a shame as there is some good young players around where I live, but keep up the good work Barry. Regards Bill

@bill. Steady Eddie as he was known over here, great player underestimated. Shame about the decline of the game in the clubs. There are many reasons for this, No smoking, limited alcohol because of driving to and fro, then there is the amount of floor space needed to house a snooker table etc. We need to find a way of encouraging youngsters to take the game up and then keep them motivated, any suggestions?

Great advice Barry. Unfortunately or fortunately depending on how competative you are playing. Most snooker players are very stubborn and ego fragile that they won't listen to this great advice

my cue goes offline as i get down, like shaun murphy starts featuring as soon as he get down , etc: as soon as i put the cue online and want to get down i have to pull the cue back because the cue tip is an inch further away so i have to pull the cue back to bring the cue tip behind the white ball, and by doing this i pull the cue towards my body what is the best method not to move the cue at all as you are settling or getting down. i watched barry hawkins he does the same thing, as he is getting down his cue tip is above the cueball and he has to pull the cue back as he is getting down but ofcourse he pulls it back straight, but i pull it back towards my body any suggestion? thank you alot

@bighilly. This is new thing for Kyren because he finds some venues a little sticky. Several makes on the market, he has tried ones made of nylon which he doesn't like and he prefers the one made from cotton. An individual thing worth trying but not for everyone.

Sir, What type of snooker tip to be used for a beginner. Pls suggest and hope if video done or available will be helpful.
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach 11 ай бұрын
@rajesh. The tip for a beginner is no different than what it is for an expert. Generally the tip should be firm and holding, too soft and there will be no constructive feel, the same applies if the tip is too hard. You won't go far wrong with Elk master tips, players good and bad have been using these for years.

@@BarryStarkSnookerCoachthank you for your reply sir. I have watched a video from "Bob Meucci lectures all about tips". He state that hard tips makes less deflect than soft tips. will try the Elk master tips if it is available here in India or online shopping. Waiting for your next video.

Hello Barry, Nice to see and hear from you again...hopefully you're and your family are ok. Barry, I have had a question that has been bothering me for some time now and I sincerely hope that you can advise me on it. I am a 72 year old right-handed player whose vision is deteriorating and can only be corrected surgically. With my R eye I can still see quite well, namely 80%, but with my L eye I can only see 61% (cattaract). My L eye is also my dominant eye. My question to you is the following: What is the best way to stand during the pre-shot routine so that I can see the line of the shot correctly and how to act during the subsequent walk-in. I can't judge that properly myself, even when I use the baulk line as an aid. Thank you very much for your efforts and for your answer to my question and I wish you all the best. Kind regards, Joseph
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach

Joseph. This is a tricky one, the first question has to be. "Is it your intension to have the surgery, if so when.?"
@aa1b2346
@aa1b2346 Жыл бұрын
Barry, the health insurance fund only reimburses the operation if the vision is less than 50%, otherwise you have to pay for it yourself and I am not going to do that for the time being, because of the high costs. I would be very grateful if you could help me in some way. Perhaps you have some suggestions from your coaching sessions. I thank you in advance for all your efforts to help and I wish you a nice day

Hi Barry, does a cue go bad? I’ve tried various different tips and chalks and it just doesn’t feel right? Was wondering before i fork out for another cue if there is anything else to try
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach Жыл бұрын
@daniel. Not sure what you mean by go bad. Certainly a cue can lose some of its qualities if it is not looked after. The wood can dry out and the response you get from it can diminish but the occasional smear of linseed oil should rectify that, I would try that first.
