Ecuador is on the list for possible retirement destinations. My wife grew up in Ecuador---about an hour north of Guayaquil along the Daule River. I've been to Ecuador several times--to visit her family as well as when I was in the US Army in the early '90s (Lago Agrio--multiple trips, about 4 months total). The last time we were in Ecuador together we spent part of the time in her home town, in Guayaquil, and a few days in Salinas.

Wow what a beautiful house and that's only for $950 and of top of that in el centro. In most North American cities 1,200 minimum for 1 bedroom apartment. Good for you. I don't know why some people are very mean and critical about your choice of living in a luxurious house. I mean if you can afford it you go for it and enjoy you life. It doesn't matter if you want to sleep in one bedroom every night or even in the closet this you do it and if they want to pay 300$ a month they its their choice you respect their choice they should respect yours. The hell with them. You like to eat seafood everyday go for it...... anyhow nice video and I say enjoy your beautiful house enjoy life you deserve it. Cheers🍷🍷

I'm planning to move to Ecuador as well next year, for few years. I would love to see how the entrepreneurial status is in Ecuador/cuenca?
@WarrenJulieTravel4 жыл бұрын
That’s a bit of a complicated question, since there are so many small shops, and restaurants, all could be considered entrepreneurs. Due to Covid19 many are struggling, things are getting more normal, but the damage done to many is irreversible. Many restaurants and shops have closed for good, as well as many hotels and hostels. ☹️. Things will recover I’m sure, but for some the damage is permanent.

Again, this was really helpful! Thank you Warren & Julie! Can I ask how much more two dogs adds to your budget (vet fees, food, grooming, etc)? We would love to have a dog or two in our retirement. Thank you!!!
@WarrenJulieTravel2 жыл бұрын
If you don’t have one yet, please rescue one in Ecuador. The cost is very inexpensive compared to the US for a pet, the veterinarians were very reasonable and the cost of dog food depends on what you buy. Grooming is typically less than $25.

Hi guys. I noticed that you did not give a cost for housekeeping of that huge house. Do you do it yourself or hire someone? One other note. I often go to Banco del Austro also to use the ATM. When I got here the limit per transaction was $200...but you mentioned $300. I haven't tried that yet. But, I can take out a total of $800 in one day by doing 4 transactions. You can probably do that also. JEP Cajeros had a limit of $100, but now it is $200 per transaction, and I think that is the daily limit also.

BTW, this is Steve S. on Mariscal Lamar but about to move...
@WarrenJulieTravel4 жыл бұрын
We don’t really need a housekeeper, but brought one in once for $30.00. Yes, we take out $300 at a time, we have not needed to do multiple transactions the same day. JEP has a transaction fee when we use Chase so we do not use them, we use our American account ATM card.

Planning on coming down after February. I have T mobile in the states. Can you share your cost for the International service.
@WarrenJulieTravel4 жыл бұрын
Contact T-mobile and make sure you have free international text and data turned on, the free data is 2G or 3G when abroad. WiFi calling is free if enabled, but you’ll want to load and use WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger to communicate with your new expat friends, as well as an additional way to communicate to the states. If you are staying long term in Ecuador you may want to get an Ecuadorian phone also. My T-mobile plan has 5 lines an auto pay discount and military discount, and I pay $163.00 or about $33 a line. I think the T-mobile plan is called simple global, I use my son’s US address as the home address. I hope this helps.

Thank you for the information, I'm working through the videos - I'm a little confused by the very high cost of groceries. If Ecuador is roughly 1/4 the cost of the US - does that mean a couple, in the US, are normally spending around $1700 a month on groceries alone? It mentions that all lunches and 15 dinners a month are in restaurants - So, $440+ per month for groceries is for the remaining breakfasts and 15 dinners and personal/cleaning items? To be honest if that the case I would probably eat out 24/7. I'm from the UK and our grocery bills are very close to your numbers in Ecuador. I don't really think we could spend $1200 per month purely on food monthly in Ecuador.
