I saw him in Niagara Falls at the casino in roughly 2012. He had his son on with him for a couple of songs. And coincidentally, one of the musicians playing was from the Blood, Sweat & Tears band, and David Clayton Thomas (also from BS&T) was in the audience. Great show, even though he's getting up in years. Still he has loads of energy.

what a beautiful writer of lyric and music. in 1975, i bought a Carpenter's album called Horizon if i remember correctly. i was mesmerized and remain that to this day by the depths of sorrow and an intimate relationship to it, of Karen Carpenter's beautiful interpretation of Neil's profoundly moving composition, this gorgeous Solitaire. i had never heard Sedaka's version of Solitaire until i saw this live rendition a couple of months ago when i viewed a vocal teacher watching and listening to Neil sitting at his piano, delivering this heartbreaking vocal to very sad but very beautiful song. it truly and unexpectedly brought me to tears. something in my life's memory bank relates to the feelings his words, music, and supply but subtly sublime singing voice connected and have since i heard Karen first sing it when i was 14 years old. if i kept on paper or in memory a list of my favorite songs, this number is the top 5% of the 100's of favorite songs ive been blessed to hear in my life. this man on music gives 2 snaps up and its in place in JohnBoy's Library of Popular Music🎉 i believe every human being has a powerful life story to tell, each one unique but also, for most, there is at lesst a passing relative similar event, thought, dream, some life marker we share in common from the profound effect of that or those thing(s') in their imprint in our minds, things that moved us so deeply they may have changed or redirected the course of our lives (one of mine is my mom divorcing my father when i was 7 years old). i have less than two handfuls of them in my life that effected me so completely, i know the person i am today was in large part inspired or developed because of those markers. There is an emotional heft in the versions recorded by both Karen and Neil that "takes [me] down" to the depths of my psyche, soul, and pain that is manifested in my heart and my stomach and moves me emotionally. excuse the lengthy comment and, if you read this, thank for reading my Solitaire story.
