I purchased this mixer and so far I love it. Quieter than a kitchen aid and does such a great job of making meringues. When it comes to creaming butter and sugar I had none of the problems that you had in your video ( so far ) .When it comes to bread dough it did a much better job than a kitchen aid. Did not over heat like a Kitchen aid either. Over all I think for the price the quality of this mixer is A++.

Thank you Amy for this video!! I have the PM-50 going on 4 years in April. You are spot on about that mixer. I didn't realize this until I started in learning how to make bread dough. The dough on mine looks just like yours and I end up kneading it by hand. I thought it was me. Also I decided to do the KA dime test on paddle beaters to see if they are adjusted....whelp the beater didn't even come near a quarter much less a dime. After calling Cuisinart today..no adjustments can be made as they no longer have service centers...(Say WHAT??) Newer models according to the rep. can make adjustments....errr.....errr... In the long run it does do well on large batches of cookie dough, pound cakes(do the scrape the bowl dance for creaming smaller batches) and think I am going to have re-invest in a KA... My rating is a C overall due servicablity for the user.....
@TargetProv314 жыл бұрын
I believe that to truly do a test, you would have had to test this and a mixer you like and normally use like a Kitchen Aid testing them side by side and have done the bread test side by side using the exact same ingredients, portions and steps. Like adding the salt when you did. What if something was off with your yeast and it wasn’t the Cuisinart’s fault your dough wasn’t exactly as expected? With all that said, thanks for taking the time to film and show us. 😆☺️

There is a flat head screw that adjusts the height of the mixer. The screw is located near the top of the base if you lift the mixer head up. There is a video on you tube that explains it.

Congrats Cash on Hobie, the Baby Hobart! Love it! Early Merry Christmas. Just remember that it is still a light duty mixer in that it can do lots of bread, but just four pounds at a time. Don't get into a race with Mayhem and try to do a ten pound recipe! Too bad you gotta wait until Christmas. Can't you ask Santa if you can open early so you can make some Thanksgiving Dinner rolls? Make sure you stock up on yeast. If this next lockdown goes as crazy as the last one, then you may be left with a mixer and nothing to mix in it. Nothing wrong with moving the Artisan off its throne. It's still a beauty, but by not kneading bread in it, you'll be extending it's life.

Is it normal for the head to rock and wobble while making bread dough?
@sashineb.21144 жыл бұрын
Hi Amy, Thanks for another very thorough review. I've seen other reviews and comments about how the paddle doesn't get as close to the bowl as they would like. Maybe you know that the height can be adjusted, similar to an Artisan, by turning the screw under the mixer head? At any rate, they should have developed a scraper paddle long ago. For the bread, would the salt & yeast mixing together at the start have had an effect? It's too bad you didn't get the result you wanted. Thanks again.
@EricLearnstoCook4 жыл бұрын
Greetings. I didn't see an adjustment screw under the head. Just the center of the head is an indent on the end of the shaft, certainly nothing that would take a wrench or screwdriver. Thus the Artisan still has this thing beat. What I hate about the Artisan is a need for that screw if you change bowls (glass to stainless steel). What I hate about this mixer is only one bowl and out of the box, the beater doesn't come close to the bowl. Did they test it on something we don't have, like a ceramic or glass bowl, but ship with only stainless steel? Yes, a scraper paddle or just a good beater and dough hook would have done it. Yeah, Amy mistakenly grabbed the salt instead of the sugar. Lucky for her, this was SAF instant yeast, thus no need to let it bloom. So realizing her mistake, she just added all the ingredients at once so the salt wouldn't have a chance to kill the yeast. The bread might have developed the gluten if we let it knead for another 10 or 20 minutes? Dunno. The bread baked OK, so wasn't a total waste. Glad you enjoyed, and thanks for watching :-)

@@EricLearnstoCook Hi Eric, I really wanted to like that mixer, even though I saw from other reviews that it was leaving too much mixture on the bowl. Here is a video link that shows how to adjust the height of the Cuisinart mixer: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4S8lKKwrK2hfpY Even with it adjusted, will it do the job? Hi Maria. Thanks for your honest comment. The bread we made wasn't awful. We've made worse. So the Cuisinart probably required more time to properly knead bread. Not a deal breaker, but just nothing to get excited about. If it had a scraper beater like KA's do, then that part wouldn't be so bad. But compared to mixing by hand, it's not that bad. My Aicock mixer with the double hooks, (you reviewed it), does a much better job with dough than this, but it's not so great at meringue or batter. I think the plastic bit would worry me too. They looked cheap with that silver finish and I wonder what their longevity would be when it came to cleaning them . Especially when you consider how easily the hub cover popped off - I can see it ending up in the mixer bowl. They saved a couple of quid with plastic rather than metal, but I think the extra would have improved the overall look. The issue with the beater and dough hook is a bit baffling. You'd have thought that would have been noticed in product testing. Creaming sugar and butter together is a basic step for many baking recipes. It clearly smeared the butter around the inside of the bowl and then just tickled the surface. Same fir the dough hook, although I thought it looked quite wet, like a pizza dough rather than a bread dough.
@vmitchinson2 жыл бұрын

I have one of these and it was awful. It seems a lot of them came out of the factory without the head properly adjusted so there is too much space between the attachments and the bowl. I just discovered there is an adjusting screw in the joint when the head is in the up position. Turning it in(clockwise) will lower the head.
@mikebrock19654 жыл бұрын
@@jory6795 It helped some. The problem with most paddles for table top mixers is that they are thin and rounded and they tend to cut thru batter instead of grabbing it like a flat paddle. Scrapping a bowl is an issue even with commercial mixers unless you have one that has a scraper that attaches to the planetary and sweeps the inside of the bowl but I've only seen those on larger mixers.

It does not matter how much you mix if the beater is too small to get close to the side of the bowl.
@shannondelacruz452 Жыл бұрын
@@vmitchinson the beater isn't too small, the height of the beater needs to be adjusted down.

Shouldn't have put the oil there together with the water first. Oil js a water barrier and it hinders gluten development. Oil should be put in last when gluten is already developed. Not a bad machine just an incorrect method.

Watt ratings to me are almost meaningless. Horsepower and torque would be more helpful from these companies. It's like all the home theaters with unreasonably high wattage claims which never add up to what an actual test shows. There are amplifiers out there that put out as little as 10 watts per channel that can sound better than modern systems claiming 1,000 or more.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don't go down that road. Well, too late. LOL. I hate it when they don't include the THD ratings. I love (or used to love) Onkyo because they were priced good and had clean power (if you read the specs and avoided the cheapest models), until they got too cheap in building them and lost a ton of customers over it. I agree. There is a difference between peak power and RMS power, that most don't use, because it's lower than peak (and I doubt most people know what it means, let alone understand it). That all said, even if mixer manufacturers used torque, what torque to specify at what speed/gear? But yes, anything is better than what KA does, but then, KA sells a ton of mixers. OK. Done hating on audio and stand mixer manufacturers. LOL.

Doesn't mix or knead very well because the beater and dough hook don't come close enough to the bowl and/or are wrong shape. But some people like this mixer, so it must do a good enough job for them.
@carolinebeck8074 жыл бұрын
I think you were generous in your rating of this mixer. I would not buy one.
@EricLearnstoCook4 жыл бұрын
I think Amy was in a good mood. I'd give it a C as in average because it didn't mix very well (lots of scraping) nor knead very well. But many mixers today don't do very well. Thanks for watching. We appreciate it.

@@EricLearnstoCook I agree with you. I was amazed at how good that thing was at applying butter to the bowl sides, kinda like applying stucco to a house.

Salt kills yeast🤷♂️
@EricLearnstoCook4 жыл бұрын
It does. Luckily, we didn't need to proof the yeast because it was SAF instant yeast. Thus why Amy immediately proceeded with the recipe. She was mixed up on what cup contained sugar. Had it been Active Dry Yeast, then we would have tossed out the ingredients and started over.

Me neither. LOL. Looks are one thing. Build quality is another. But not mixing or kneading well. Now, if they offered a scraper beater, then it'd be a bit better.
