wow, that's how the "daeadbydaylight" sound designer do the same thing with Killer chasing after the survivors .Pretty good tips on mask tho, I don't know that yet before this video. End up being used smaller size audio file to utilize things.Now I Get it ! Thank you, Sir Bjørn : )

Thanks for sharing, I really liked the video! I got used to sending voices to Virtual whenever they drop in volume, especially on the looping ambient sounds. To me, one major advantage with Blend tracks over Switches is that the crossfades in Blend tracks can be driven by actor's position rather than time which is the case with Switch containers.

Oh absolutely, if you need the precision of location then its definitely how it goes. What I've used this for in a bigger system is more that if "RTPC_Rain" goes above 0.3, then it switches to more rain, then above 0.4 then to more rain again, etc. But I don't need the crossfade to be depending on the value being 0.4 or 0.455551 or anything, so it just changes when needed. But one thing especially used for is because engine only feeds me an RTPC for rain, it doesn't feed me switches like "its raining x amount" - so this is a solution to keep the logic out of the engine. But there is more to it of course, gonna see if I can expand on it.

Makes sense for those situations for sure, I'm guessing the RTPC_Rain is more of a general game parameter rather than something depending on the Pawn itself? I'm looking forward to your bigger RTPC system video, keep up the good work.

Hi Bjorn! Thank's for the video. Haven't seen crossfades in switches lol :) For non-looped sounds I usually kill voice for blend containers when they reach the lower lever of volume set in project settings. For example, if I set -45 dB it doesnt't work properly and don't kill the voices under -45, but if I set -5 dB just for the test - it works
@CujoSound3 жыл бұрын
For non- looped sounds it would definitely work, but if they need to trigger just once anyway I would consider other uses than the blend container. Though the blend container for one shots is really easy to adjust in terms of changes, so the editor interface it easier to work with. But its quite common, I see with students, that they use blend containers for everything like this instead of considering what can actually be done with the RTPC or values received. But its really nice that its this versatile, making it a more creative tool to work with.

@@CujoSound hey Bjorn and guys. So would you say using kill voice for a Footstep Type Blend Track would work just fine? The Hierarchy goes: Directionality Switch Container - backwards - forwards Footgear Type Switch Container - barefoot - boot_generic - boot_metal - etc Surface Type Switch Container - concrete - dirt - metal - etc Blend Containers with Sweetener Switch + Blend Tracks for each surface type, controlled by CharacterMovementSpeed, RTPC - walk - run - sprint Or should I just stick to one Event per Footstep Type, with Switch containers for Directionality and then Surface Type?
@CujoSound3 жыл бұрын
@@markozivanovic117 if you need the blend to play everything in it then it's just fine. It's only if you have longer looped sounds and such that I'd go with a switch instead.
@markozivanovic1173 жыл бұрын
@@CujoSound Things like jump, land, skid, start, stop etc, I'm using separate events, some of them also using blend tracks to switch between intensities. Makes sense right?
@CujoSound3 жыл бұрын
@@markozivanovic117 it does. I usually just use blend containers without the blend track,.

Blend containers now look bugged, because as I see volume threshold virtualization not working at all. Thanks for the clarification Bjorn!
@CujoSound3 жыл бұрын
Blends work as intended, but they need a lot of work on virtual voices and other things to not just fully load all its content and blast off 4-100 voices in one go, which is absolutely useless - the point of the video though is also to explain that an RTPC can be used for other things than driving the blend if you don't need the super precise crossfades. Gonna try and find the time to make videos about a bigger system only run by RTPCs

@@CujoSound False alarm, it's not a bug. I just always automatically set up virtualization and forgot that by default it is set to Continue to play

@@IvnOs well, not a bug in the tool then, but a bug in the setup, and yes sometimes it's set to quite odd default settings.
