Can I just say thank you for admitting the “change” everyone was seeing? I used to follow you guys, daily bumps and Ellie and Jared and slowly started unsubscribing from each of you because I couldn’t relate anymore. It made me sad because at the time me and my oldest (she was an only child at the beginning of my watching of the videos) would watch all your videos religiously every morning at breakfast and then I had my second and we watched a little bit and then slowly stopped. Not everyone is willing to admit the “change” that subscribers notice isn’t always good change. You always hear “well yeah everyone changes” but I have been sucked into your videos once again. And we never budgeted and now my husband and I have decided to try out the envelope system! So thank you for sharing this!♥️☺️

Katie and Cullen, man you could totally see the difference with the first home purchase and the home you are in now. You are right about seeing how you both were justifying things about your current house versus that carefree joy of the first house in tonight’s flashback video. It was authentic joy and laughter throughout the first home video. And you could see in your eyes and your voices tonight how it brought back that happy carefree feeling. I always worried about how people judged us for the financial troubles we had and still have. Back in 08 when we went through our bankruptcy, it was due to medical debt we paid with credit cards. But people didn’t see that. They just heard bankruptcy and considered us losers. We all have faced that judgement. Even though we still have to keep a really tight budget, I don’t listen to any body else’s opinion unless I ask for it. You have to believe in yourself and those dearest to you and have faith in God. The two of you working through this together is the most important thing. Be honest with yourselves and your children will see a reflection of how you were back in the days of purchasing your first home. And Cullen, I am sure your children would love it if their daddy danced like nobody was watching. ❤️ see you next week.

Oh, how I loved this vlog. The minute I started seeing the old house in your old video, I felt myself smiling because I remember how happy you were there. As you said, you were yourselves and you allowed yourselves to just be you - no pressure, no trying to live according to others' expectations. I remember Gaines' first birthday party in that house with the kids enjoying the photo booth. I remember that play house in the back yard and Cullen playing with Gaines in it. And my all time favorite memory from that house was the day Gaines decided it was time to give her pacifiers to all the other babies who didn't have one. Watching her use a few just one more time before she left them in the bag on the porch "for the mailman" just melted my heart. I, too, am someone who stopped watching when things changed a couple years ago. The stress between the two of you was palpable and I say that only to point out how different you are today. I think you're closer to being who you were in that old video than you realize. In spite of all the stress you have now, you still seem happier with each other and yourselves. You are letting go of others' expectations and allowing yourselves to once again be you and that change is what brought me back to your channel recently. Parenthood changes you in that you are now an example for your little ones and you didn't have that responsibility before kids so some of that craziness you once had has been tempered. But while you're teaching your children appropriate behavior and responsibility, don't forget to teach them how to have fun, to let themselves be kids and let them see and experience the fun they can have with mom and dad. Life has plenty of serious moments when we all have to act "appropriately" but it's the silly times when laughter rules the moment that create the memories that last a lifetime. Thank you for your brutal honesty in these videos, for your willingness to be vulnerable and for allowing us to relate to you in ways we haven't been able to in quite some time. You guys got this!

OH my goodness I'm watching all these debt videos right now, loving getting to watch you guys again and learning about the money stuff in the meantime, I used to watch you when I was 13! Seeing your old house was reminiscent on soo many levels, I'm 19 now and it's like you guys synced up with where I am as far as mindset and what I'm needing to see, loving the change I'm seeing in you, it's helping me notice the change I see in me too, and I'm so happy to come along on the journey again :)

Although I did not begin watching your channel until Brooks came along, I have gone back and watched a number your past vlogs. You both had a natural ‘spunkiness’ about yourselves. As time progressed, you both became influenced by viewers’ comments (that’s only a natural part of being public personalities), and began ‘editing’ your prior, spontaneous life. These 2020 series of videos has brought a return of some spunk. So glad to see you both have moments of laughter as you deal with this difficult storm you are walking through. We laugh with you, we cry with you, and we hope for nothing but the best for you.

I can so relate to everything your saying about how you used to be so carefree and less stressed before kids/debt/responsibilities. I never had anxiety before we had our son. When y’all were talking about the tantrums I started thinking about an idea for Katie’s channel. I know you have a background in child psychology, right? I have an 18 month old and the tantrums are already starting and I have no idea what to do at times 😂 is there any way you could do a few videos/short series on different topics within child psychology? Like how to deal with tantrums, the reasoning behind them, etc.? I would totally watch. I feel like a lot of people could relate and would enjoy watching! Just an idea. 😊

I love hearing your story and I so appreciate you sharing this journey! I have 4 kids now and my anxiety grew and health hit an all time low once my 4th was born early and had to be in the NICU, my oldest kids were just starting at school after 3 years of homeschooling. Before that I had started to think that we needed a bigger house and a better vehicle and nothing was good enough (even though our home and cars are paid off) Now that I came out of that place where I had to hit rock bottom, I have a new appreciation for what we have and I have actually started to downsize and simplify even though our family grew. It has been life changing and I see in you guys exactly how I feel now! I’m finally realizing that happiness and contentment comes from within and I just hope that the last 10 years of striving for perfection didn’t hurt my kids and I can make up for it. The biggest change I made was getting off all social media and I’m very selective with what I watch online. I hope your wisdom and insight helps those who need to hear this!

Whether you wanna see it or not the kids do change you that much. I know us having our kids did change us. Some ways for the better but it’s definitely when I started having anxiety. Our 20’s were all fun and life was so carefree it seems like. Now it’s so much more hectic and anxious. I wish we could be what we were back then only now with the kids. Your comment “just let them have fun” it’s the truth. There’s so much more going through our minds now.

We did the re-directing with sending my daughter to her room when she was in need of some personal time to calm down and she could come out when she was ready and had calmed down. So many times I realize that I had just misread her frustration because I would check on her and find her asleep on his large stuffed puppy that she had in her room. This is so much better than a time out where you’re put in your room or on the chair or corner whatever for a certain amount of time. Like you said it’s not a punishment. I heard children learn to have much better self control with this technique because they are in control. She’s now 15 a straight A student taking AP classes and an Allstate flute player.

I see 2 care free young kids that were newly married, new house living the dream and happy! Life truly can be a roller coaster and you have to work at a lot of things including your relationship. Family is the most important thing you have not the things, or stuff. Just remember that. Yes, back then you were so happy because you just enjoyed EACH OTHER you didn't need to find happiness in anything else but that. I live by the saying " There's a reason the windshield is bigger than the rearview mirror. Where you're going is so much better then where you've been" In other words its okay to look back at the good times. But look forward to happy times still to come there is plenty of that to come even if takes work! Good Luck guys! Enjoy the Vlogs.

Why did I cry watching this? I guess it’s because I can relate. My husband and I, along with our four kids relocated to s new state last July after we almost lost everything. My husband survived cancer, we both lost jobs. We were in financial ruin. We sold our house and nearly everything else in it that was not essential. Paid off our debts other than student loans and are renting, but it feels good to start over. We are so thankful for what we have. Not just possessions, but LIFE. I have a sign above my mantel that says, “gratitude turns what we have into enough.” Spending time with our kids and teaching them how to overcome and become stronger through learning from mistakes has been the best life lessons for them and us. CYOTFS ❤️ y’all. Thanks for sharing

Guys... it’s natural to change. You hopefully know that as you age you hopefully learn from your successes and your failures. What is even better is to remember what you learned and not make the same mistakes. Of course, we all make mistakes all thru life but the idea is not to make major ones because you have experience from your past. Good luck and remember ....family is more important than things!

I started watching y'all when you were pregnant with Gaines. I used to love watching you religiously. Then over time, like someone else said, I wasn't able to relate anymore and eventually unsubscribed. I honestly just kinda forgot about y'all. Then a few days ago one of your debt disaster videos popped up on my feed. I decided to watch just out of curiosity as to what had happened to you guys. I've been watching you daily ever since. I finally feel like I can relate again.

Katie you haven’t aged a bit!!! I loved your old house!! It felt more like we were right there with you. You guys seemed so much happier then. I remember you guys would have serious hard talks on your couch. When you re did your office area it was so cute!!! You’ll get back to that ❤️

Loosen up! (I say that and I’m the worst haha) but honestly, our kids bring the anxiety, our ego brings it too. We are so worried about what others think or keeping up with the Jones, that we lose that sense of fun and humor! Deep breath. I love the giggles, I love the laughs. Efff the haters! Have some fun, laugh, and make those kiddos giggle! I’m loving watching these videos and freak out every time there’s a new one! You guys got this!!

Dang y’all have me in tears ! I remember that and cracking up back when. I don’t vlog but I can look back at pictures and see when j was happier and less stressed and more Carefree too. Debt and life gets in the way sometimes ..: but this is also making me see that I don’t have to spend money to have happiness and let the life stuff to the side and ‘just be’. Keep up the great work y’all !

I am enjoying this series as well. I still live in the condo my late husband and I shared during our marriage. It’s great to see the old videos and a reaction to them now. Thank you!
