Culligan Tech support recommends turning the top handle back and forth TEN to FIFTEEN times before installing the unit. That info used to be on their web-site, but the tech from Culligan International said that it has been removed for some reason. I installed mine in the Spring of 2021 WITHOUT doing this. In October, I could not turn the knob. (I never touched it before, as I never bypassed the unit.) It was difficult, but with some elbow grease and the wrench, I was able to get it to move, and I turned it back and forth the recommended 15 times. Works smoothly now. Also.....NEVER press the red button when the unit is under full pressure from the pipeline. Always shut the water off first. If you don't, water will get into the mechanism, and it will leak for a while. IF the unit leaks after installation and the O-Ring is intact and in place. Remove the housing and the filter and, with a long Phillips screwdriver, slightly tighten the screw that is inside the cap, just under the red pressure release button. Great video. Thanks. I hope my additional input is helpful.

Thanks for the review. I bought 4 of these and made a diy step down system going 50 micron, 20, 5, 1 to a uv. They work great. The visibility is nice. However, it can be deceptive. A 50 or 20 micron filter will look much dirtier than a 1 or a 5 and the 1 or 5 could be plugged up and require a change. I used pex and shark bites. Put a shutoff valve before and after your filtration system. Throw a carbon filter in the mix if you need to clean up the taste.

I installed this filter at my water well to remove sand Much larger than old unit. I turned to top knob 40 times with wrench and recognized that knog was screwed up so I pipied it so I never will use the knob. My layout was 21"x21"x21". but I could have made it smaller to fit inside std plastic storage container. During warm months, I keep a heavy contractor garbage bag over the piping to prevent algae growth in the filter. The downstream pressure guage pokes out via a small tear. During cold moths, I insulate wrap all the piping and use loose insulation wrap to protect the filter and fill up up the second bag. I used vegetable oil to lube O ring as food grade silicone oil can only be bought online for $$$. My piping is all 1" PVC My piping is union, tee with3/4 hose bibb to blow sand out of tank,pvc isolation valve, FILTER , pvc isolation valve, tee with 3/4" connection for pressure gauage and finally union. The filter is mounted on a 4x4 that is about 3 feet in the ground. I use Tru blu for the pipe threads on the filter and on the hose bib and pressure guage connections. I used Otey primer and high performance cement and allowed 12 hr setting time, Very careful about gluing, so check video before starting. Blew well clear of sand via hose bibb before running water into filter. Not a single drip. RUns perfectly.

@@imfrompersia I put both in at the same time. I don’t think it will be that hard to add your filter. You will have to reroute your plumbing. After owning a few homes and many water filtration systems.... First...I would have a 10 micron or smaller filter. Lots of people use 1 micron...and thats ideal. AFTER the 10 micron filter I would have a SEPARATE charcoal filter for taste snd odor. My charcoal filter goes to the refrigerator and a separate spout....lasts a LONG time. Next...I have given up on built in diverters on top...they fail and leak. A nice ball valve before and after is all you need...the canister head has a button pressure release. Those are my tips for my himes now. There is a guy in here that cleans his 1 micron filter with oxalic acid ....and reuses the pleated filter 20 times! He even reuses the oxalic acid to soak them...4 times. He has a well...and obviously no charcoal combination filter. Lastly...plenty of plumbers make worse looking solder joints than you. They look good. My systems are all PEX A.

Maybe I can't see it in the video, but it is always a good idea to insert a bypass with three valves when installing a filter or appliance. This essentially looks like the following: --------------- valve --------------- | | | | valve valve | | | | ---------------Filter ---------------- This allows you to have a proper bypass where you can shutoff the vertical valves and open the horizontal valve. This allows the home to have water service while the filter or appliance is being repaired. In some areas of the country this is code. Just a suggestion for future projects. Hopefully you used swivel connectors at the inlet and outlet of the filter so that the filter housing is easy to remove and replace. It is hard to see from the video, but I could see someone using a plain MPT/Sweat fitting and then not having an easy way to replace the filter housing without cutting the copper.

I may not have shown it, but I do have a bypass system with ball valves exactly how you diagrammed it, which I must admit is rather impressive for a comment.

We got city water and we had a smaller one and it did ok but two years ago we added this after the small one ! Now we use the small one for sediments then the big culligan to finish the job off . Now what we do is every three months change the small one and the the big one every 6 months it works out real well cause the new fridge got a water filter on it ! Yeah just like a good beer triple filtered water and ice . Who could ask for more ! Also for any one doing this he’s right on the rack to hold it and the pressure I installed ours as soon as thecwater line came in the house ! I put a ball valve then a tee off the tee first filter then second ! Down off the tee a valve and about 14 inches of pipe turn out and a hose bib so if I ever need a water hose there and the main part . SO YOU CAN LET THE PRESSURE OFF ! The bonus it’s at the lowest point in the house . That’s important if you have a leak and need to repair it remember the first valve shut it then turn hose bib on and all the pipes upstairs will drain out ! Then I can also use the hose bib to clean out my filter case ! It also leaves you between the valve off the tee to the hose bib to add another tee run a pipe for a hose out side un filtered of course but washing mud of or mixing concrete don’t need filtered ! Unless you cleaning the BMW or Mercedes’. We haven’t gotten that hi up yet so the Toyotas and chevys will be ok with unfiltered water ! And the rack is a must I made mine from bed rail and flat bar plumed all the filters and down spout in galvanized pipe copper between the filters and shark bite back to pvc ! Found little u bolt clamps to hold it on the parts that didn’t already have holes to bolt it and lag screws to the 6x6 header yeah if the house blows up GOD forbid you can look at the foundation and see it still bolted there full of water and everything else gone ! Great video great choice in filter live for it man ! Love how you educated those people on the common sense side of the street man some peoples kids but hay we all live and learn and do are best to help every one out cause that’s just what we do ! Great minds think a like stay safe man I done liked your video now let me go back and subscribe can’t wait man I just know your gonna have some more killer stuff happening I’ll keep a close eye on it !

My townhouse has a covered front porch where PVC pipes hosted a water softener. We intend to place a screen to shade the Culligan WH filters from the Florida sun. We have a rough stucco exterior. Is it best to attach the Culligan WH filters to a board and then attach the board to the wall? i guess it is not a big deal but you basically soldered the system with no flexibility. You will have to cut piping if you needed to remove or replace the filter body or rotate to adjust etc. But i guess that would be a very unusual situation. So, it should be ok. I plan to use unions on the inlet and outlet of the piping for that flexibility.

I have a city water supply that I never drink from. The rest of the lines of the home are subject to the chlorine, scale, and fluoride. I really have a problem with stinky wash machine, white scale build- up on the shower doors, and some black mildew funk that comes from the shower heads. I'm guessing the correct filter would be 99% of what I need to remove this contaminant correct? I have 3 full bathrooms but, only my wife and I live here so I don't have a huge water per gallon count. Would putting only 1 of these units in be enough to completely filter out my crud water? I know Flouride can't be removed with this and don't really care about that cause I'm not drinking it anyway. The dog drinks bottled water that most likely is filtered at their plants from tap water so hopefully no worries there. So would 2 of these in-line be a waste of investment? I have 70lbs of water pressure from the street and don't want to slow down the pressure or volume. Thanks for the video as well. I made a post on the Amazon site concerning this as well.
@RocketScientist5 жыл бұрын
Sorry didn't get back to you sooner. Your comment somehow ended up in the spam filter which I almost never check. As far as filtering ability, it's mostly about which cartridge you use. I have since gone down to a 5 micron filter without issue. No noticeable drop in pressure. I've actually been considering adding a second one of these filters also. A friend did and he has it set up with a 50 mic first to catch the big stuff, and a 5 mic after that. Works great, and extends the life of the more expensive 5 mic filter. I'd say that's a worthy investment. Especially now that these filters are hovering around the $50 mark on Amazon. Worth a try for sure.

Yes. Straight off the main coming in the house before it gets to anything else.

did you install this filter before entering water softer or after?
@carlosjaen47863 жыл бұрын
I can’t close the valve it is stuck, please tell me what to do, thanks
@RocketScientist3 жыл бұрын
Mine is tight too. Try using the large plastic wrench that came with it. The handle side is made to fit the blue valve on top.

Great video. Did you install it on the street side of your water supply or did you install it between your water softener and the house plumbing?
@urbanturbine Жыл бұрын
Nevermind what he did.... You should install on street side.

Hey I see you use a water softener. Am also on well water and already installed the culligan whole house water filter and the water water taste great! My ? is can i stop adding salt to my water softener since the filter is already doing such a great job? Thanks
@RocketScientist3 жыл бұрын
I'd keep using the softener. The filter only filters. It doesn't change the water the way a softener does. I tried that and immediately noticed calcification buildup on all my faucets, coffee maker clogged up.. even with the filter. It was a pain. Yeah, keep using the softener.

Set up video? I want to buy this but idk where to hook it up , my pipes are set up differently

Aside from being installed in a different place, what is set up different at your place?

@@RocketScientist I'm not sure if I would put it by the water heater or if I have to connect it to my well pump. I'm worried about space.

Did you install before or after the water softener. Any ideas by installing it after the softener
@RocketScientist2 жыл бұрын
its before the softener. The idea is to keep sediment and crap from building up in everything after the filter, which includes the softener. My water is very iron rich, so just trying not to kill my softener prematurely.

Nice vid. Thanks ! Question: I see your water flow is from left to right. My pipes are the opposite. My feed (main) comes from the right side. Can the filter be rotated 180deg so the water flows from right to left ? In other words can I mount the mounting bracket & emblem/button on opposite sides ?
@RocketScientist4 жыл бұрын
You can mount it however you need to as long as its upright, and I believe the button face and wall brackets are interchangeable, but the direction of flow is not reversible. Just make sure you don't mix up the in/out sides, and you're golden!

Great review. Have you upgraded your filter again? To one that has a higher micron count?
@RocketScientist4 жыл бұрын
I did change to a 5 micron with carbon. Works very well.

@@RocketScientist Ah very good. I will follow your lead in that. One other question, do you think I would need two filters on a city water system?
@RocketScientist4 жыл бұрын
@@kpnitrl38 eh, i guess it depends on the quality of the water to begin with. I'd start with one but pipe it in a way thats easy to add a 2nd one later if you choose to.
@kpnitrl384 жыл бұрын
@@RocketScientistOk. You have been happy tho with just one?
@RocketScientist4 жыл бұрын
@@kpnitrl38 so far so good. I am on a well with a ton of iron particulate. I could probably use 2 but been doing just fine with 1.

The real filters are actually still made in the United States! Unlike these Chinese here. Honestly well done review man and great for low budget. But want actually really good water from horrible water? Get the REAL one from U.S Water Systems. I have a deeper surface well that's not very good. I also have a family and a 1 year old that I will protect above and beyond no matter what. So I couldn't mess around with that style (but fine for city water supply) so I installed a dual 4 1/2"X 20" 222 seal unit with a 2" Rusco spin down filter ahead of it for fine sediment. Using the 5 micron Magna pleated with the Interceptor filter behind that my water is guaranteed against any bacteria, virus, heavy metal, VOC, basically any chemicals or metals you severely do not want! And my filters last a full YEAR! Plus after rainfall (water intrusion into the well water) I'd get surges of tannins which are actually very expensive and difficult to remove but us water systems Interceptor filter actually does the job, to my surprise honestly. As with anything worth it, ya get what you pay for period. Glad that little knock off unit works for you Man (I know how it sounds but honestly I'm not being sarcastic) but for a real permanent solution that once installed you'll be dumbfounded how you survived without it lol call U.S Water Systems....I straight up do not work for them know them or have any affiliation what so ever with them, they just are full on all pro, all American legit company that don't DCK around and their products are far far! Superior, work better last longer and cost about 5 bucks more. But these smaller companies are very hard for us to find without serious digging

Do you reccomend mounting inside or outside the house to take advantage of the UV sunlight?
@RocketScientist3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't. No doubt constant exposure to outside weather would destroy it, but especially not if your location freezes in winter. That thing will split wide open along with your water pipes.
@mar1video2 жыл бұрын
Inside only . The UV light will destroy the plastic housing on that filter.
