Thanks Carol for expanding on the American Civil War soldier's non-American (USA) or often covered foreign (Irish, German) lineage. Something that is often over looked in American Civil War history and so relevant and important in today's history and social climate.

Gettysburg is my personal "mecca". I haven't made my pilgrimage in many years and it saddens me. I'm a North Carolinian with roots that run deep into the nc soil and am decended from 8 confederate soldiers that served under under A.P. Hill; but that hallowed ground in Southern Pennsylvania gives me a strange and uncanny feeling of familiarity. A familiarity that feels deeper than just being familiar with the grounds of Gettysburg as a tourist. Ever since my first visit in the latter part of the 1980s as a 7 year old boy I have felt a strange feeling of sorrow but comfort. My dad will tell ya about how he thought I'd get bored within 30 minutes and wanna leave 😆.....i read every monument I could spot, lined up my shot with every artillery piece I could climb (elevator screws still functioned then😆). Long story short, I am eternally grateful for the work and passion you guys put into this. Much love and respect from Raleigh, NC!!!🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

I am very lucky to have a friend in Littlestown and so on my visits from UK have enjoyed the chance to wander over the Battlefield . anyone who has never been thoroughly recommend going to visitors centre and booking a tour as an introduction. If you can hire a bike and tour the area

Spangler's Spring named after George Spangler my 2nd great grandmother's cousin also their cousin is Edmund Spangler who was employed at Ford's Theatre at the time of President Abraham Lincoln's murder on April 14, 1865. He and seven others were charged in conspiring to assassinate Lincoln and three other high level government officials. Edmund Spangler was the only one found not guilty of the conspiracy charge. Even so, he was found guilty of helping Lincoln's assassin, John Wilkes Booth, escape and sentenced to six years of hard labor.
