Possibly the best post metal song ever made. Chills every time.

I couldn't agree more! This is the song that introduced me to Cult of Luna and post-metal in general. Since then, very few songs have ever been even half as remarkable as "Dim."

From the skyline dark clouds move in, they shroud me with her cold cover. Eyes like daggers puncture the skin, isolated in a room with no others. Where do I turn when all hope is lost, where do I find forgiveness? My search for salvation has begun to find a place where our hearts beat as one.

I have a very different response emotionally. Whenever I listen to this album and especially this song or back to chapel town I experience intense regret and longing. I guess I probably associate it with another time, a better time...

I just cannot handle the buildup at 7:20, I lose my fucking shit emotionally. One of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard and I'm sad more people haven't recognized it, because if any underground piece deserves recognition it's this one.

so true, this song is ridiculously underrated.

Their best song. Too bad they didn't play it when I saw them a couple of years ago... I don't dig their new material as much as their old stuff! This song is everything post metal should be!

***** Not liking Salvation is blasphemy for a CoL fan, but I don't like it either so we're on the same side :P. Give this album another listen, it's by far the best thing they've done so far, songs like "Dim", "Finland", "Back to Chapel Town" and the more melodic "Marching to the Heartbeats" and "With Her Came the Birds" are wonderful. Ever tried listening to other post metal? Isis are more melodic, but I love them (Panopticon is their best album for me, Oceanic is their fan favorite), or Neurosis with "A Sun that Never Sets". I also suggest you listen to the song "Hate and Heartache" by Mouth of the Architect.

***** The Ocean opened for CoL when I saw them! Ever tried with Sólstafir? Icelandic post metal band, they sing in Icelandic and they're starting to get the recognition they deserve, their albums Svartir Sandar and Ótta are very good. I could never get into Deafheaven, I like them but I don't love them, I like Liturgy's Aesthethica a little bit more (the choirs at the beginning of True Will are perfect!). If you like hipsterish post black, you should check out Altar of Plagues' White Tomb, probably my favorite atmospheric black to date.

Yeah.... this song should be in every set they play. Everything they've written is fantastic, but this album and Salvation are the peaks of their career IMO. "A Greater Call" is the best song they've written since this album tho IMO. This song, Finland, Dark City Dead Man, Echoes, Waiting for You.... ugh. Perfection.

When I listen this song, I think that human life is just adding layers over and over, then one day you face the pleasant moment of silence.
