War Stories returns! Episode 7: When Vince McMahon assumed full control of the World Wrestling Federation in 1982, he had little interest in abiding by the boundaries of the North American wrestling territory system. His vision was that of a national expansion for WWE. He wanted to be the only game in town. Through ruthless means and against staunch protest, Vince pushed forward...

The importance of Tony Khan wanting to bring back some form of the wrestling territory system with multiple wrestling promotions working together in a partnership now suddenly makes a lot more sense than it ever has before. McMahon literally drained the territory system in the 80s so only WWF would the sole wrestling promotion in the world with territory promotions such as GCW/NWA/WCW etc ceasting to exist. McMahon has been about monopolizing the wrestling industry for over 3 decades, something he actually accomplished for quite a while.

A lot of people criticize Vince McMahon these days for the direction the WWE is going. But then, nobody can ever take away how successful he was as a promoter. From his takeover of the WWE, national expansion, Wrestlemania, the Monday Night Wars - the man has balls to bet on himself and his vision and see to it that he will get what he wants. Great job, Cultaholic! Always top notch features coming from you guys!

"Ole Anderson, of Georgia Championship Wrestling, was running Ohio at the time." Throw in what Verne was doing in the AWA, and hey, I'm starting to think no one really respected the territories. Vince just happened to win the game. That means the other promoters get the virtue of victimization.

@@eatpigsnot Could be. I guess my comment in the broader sense, is that there is some amount of nobility attached to the territories, mostly based on "that's the way we've always done it". But really it was just a club that you weren't in. Case in point, the Poffo operation was an "outlaw" promotion. In other industries, some ambitious members of a DoJ might have their own classifying terminology for similar arrangements.

Vince Mcmahon is the "FATHER" of sports entertainment! He needs to stick with what he knows, which is WRESTLING. Vince needs to QUIT trying to take on the NFL thinking he's going to conquer and monopolize FOOTBALL like he did WRESTLING! It's NEVER GOING TO WORK OUT!🤔😂
