I have always had bigger connection with Smackdown than I did with Raw growing up. Whether the show was on a Thursday or Friday, my parents always allowed me to stay up and watch all of Smackdown but not Raw. I guess a show ending at 10pm instead of 11pm worked much better for them apparently lol

That's exactly what happened in my childhood years, where I started watching WWE with SmackDown made its television debut on UPN in August 26, 1999. I didn't started watching WWE Raw until June 23, 2003 during the Ruthless Aggression era at the age of 12. But I watched WWF Raw Is War on WWE Network/Peacock for the first time and relive watching WWF/WWE Smackdown! on the streaming services as a adult.

I loved SmackDown more than Raw as a kid! I think it helped that it came on from 8 to 10 and on Fridays so my mom would let be stay up since it was the weekend! Raw I could only watch the first hour before my mom was like bed it school tomorrow! But it also was more fun to me

To be clear, that Smackdown was originally scheduled to be recorded the evening of Sept. 11 and aired on the 13th. It was pushed back two nights so it actually aired live, which was rare at the time.

I will always prefer Smackdown over Raw, I grew up solely watching the blue brand at a time when I didn’t have cable in the early part of the Ruthless Aggression Era and built my connection with the show. Also, I think one episode that should’ve made this list is the June 12, 2003 episode when Brock & Big Show exploded the ring with the superplex. All in all, Happy 25th Anniversary of Smackdown and we’ll see you when you hit 50.

The most important Smackdown episodes in WWE history to me are: 1) August 26, 1999 2)June 5, 2003, where Kurt Angle returned from neck surgery after his WrestleMania XIX(19) WWE title match loss against Brock Lesnar (Kurt Angle would go on to become a babyface after this return), while Rey Mysterio would finally capture the WWE Cruiserweight championship from then champion Matt Hardy V1(this episode featured the first time appearance of Rey's wife Angie, daughter Aaliyah & 6 year old "son" Dominic in the front row. 3)Brock Lesnar destroys the ring with a superplex on The Big Show(I think it was the same June 5, 2003 episode or June 12, but I don't know). 4)September 18, 2003: The very first ever Parking Lot Brawl match between WWE Tag Team Champion & US Champion at the same time, Eddie Guerrero(Eddie held both championships at that time) & John Cena. 5) September 9, 2005: The very first episode of Friday Night Smackdown, which lasted an hour long due to the Hurricane Katrina relief program that happened at 8pm, pushing Smackdown to start at 9pm EST & end at 10pm EST. This episode is not only the very first Smackdown episode on a Friday night, it was cathartic because it was the end of the Eddie Guerrero vs Rey Mysterio feud as Eddie Guerrero FINALLY defeated Rey in a match in the ring, though this was a steel cage match. 6)May 24, 2001: TLC 3: The very first ever TLC match to occur on free TV. Also, it was a WWE(back then WWF)Tag Team championship tag team Fatal 4 way TLC(Tables, Ladders & Chairs) match with The Hardy Boyz(Matt & Jeff), The Dudley Boyz(Bubba Ray & D-Von), Edge & Christian & the defending champions, Chris Benoit & Chris Jericho. This was on my 11th birthday.

I think the impact of the Muhammad Hassan episode is greatly overstated. All it really did was kill a rising star's career by way of an unfortunate circumstance. I wouldn't say that episode is as integral to the legacy of Smackdown as, say, the formation of the Smackdown Six era. Notably, the July 25, 2002 episode when Rey Mysterio made his debut and Edge beat Chris Jericho in a cage match, set Paul Heyman's vision in stone for the blue brand.

Muhammad Hassan was possibly the single best developed character in WWE history, he started out in kayfabe simple as an Arab-American wrestler who wanted an opportunity to prove himself but the torrent of racism and hate he received from the fans for no fault of his own led to him becoming dejected and easy pray for Daivari to radicalise and turn against his own country. The crazy thing is this was done over half a decade before "ground-breaking" TV shows started doing the same thing, and before it played out in real life in Boston.
