WCW gave the luchadors a platform. While WWF was sticking with their tired old way of thinking that a wrestler had to be huge to draw, WCW was developing and showcasing countless smaller wrestlers like Ray. The only reason Mike Awesome was punished by Vince Russo was because Russo couldn't get his hands on Hulk and Horace Hogan to punish them as they already left WCW following the incident. Many think that loser gimmicks were just the ways Russo and Ed Ferrara were trying to get Awesome out of WCW. Many years later, Russo claimed that this was not the case and that he never had nothing personal against Awesome, but simply didn't see much potential in him, but couldn't get rid of him due to his rock solid contract. This, however, came after Russo made peace with Hogan and Eric Bischoff when they were reunited in TNA in January 2010.
