War Stories Episode 10: In the world of professional wrestling in 1995, chaos reigned supreme. From the moment WCW Monday Nitro rolled out on TNT, there wasn't anything meek about Eric Bischoff's creation - in fact, aggression was its currency. The lengths Bischoff went to would have you believe that, compared to WCW, WWE was little more than wretched garbage, so much so that by the end of 1995, Bischoff authorized a literal demonstration of that notion - with the help of a recent defection: Madusa.

Alundra Blayze was someone who always deserved better than what she got from both promotions. One can’t help but feel the only place where her talents were truly able to be on display was in Japan. In that respect, the same could be said for every single woman wrestler that was mentioned in this chapter.

The funny thing about that whole event was that nothing was done before or after with women wrestlers. The last WWE women wrestler was Wendy Richter, around 1984. After Madusa went to WCW, nothing. It took years before the WWE had women wrestling with Lita being one of the first ones to really set the stage.

The 90s were rough for women. Both WWF and WCW and north american wrestling as a whole didn't view them as worth anything. It was only the work of Trish, Lita, Chyna, and hell, even Sable who got women on TV in a wrestling capacity again (Sable's intergender matches with Marc Mero did a lot more than people give credit for)

When you go back to this moment in wrestling history, THIS was THE flashpoint, THE catylist for the Montreal Screwjob. Vince didn't want a repeat of this. If he didn't cut the women's division due to cost cutting measures, the Montreal Screwjob would never have happened. Even stripping her of the title before she left. But yeah, her career in WCW really skyrocketed. They did NOTHING with the women's division.
@tjjordan4207
@tjjordan4207 8 ай бұрын
The fear that Bischoff was going to have Bret Hart show up with the WWF title on Nitro to repeat the same event as the Women's title doesn't make sense when considering a few things. The first being that the WWF sued WCW over the matter and won, which Bischoff would not have dared to repeat that again, especially when it's the main title this time. Second, regardless of how Hart felt about leaving for WCW, he wouldn't have shown up with the WWF title on Nitro. He was ultimately a loyal guy. And third, Bret had an extension to appear on Raw in order to drop the title, which he agreed to. He even was willing to drop the title to anyone other than Shawn Michaels at Survivor Series. Maybe Vince just purely feared that Bret would do it, or Bischoff would attempt to have it happen somehow, but there's no way that it was going to happen. The worst that would have happened was Bischoff announcing Bret Hart coming on over to WCW, which the public was just beginning to learn about.

Alundra had 6 televised matches in WWF in 1995. She had 10 in WCW 1996 (including Sherri, Col Tom Parker, and Bertha Faye)... WCW had little offer, but WWF had nothing at all. In the long run, she needed a fresh feud with someone else, but on the positive side, she had about 4 years in WCW and even faced Meng and Haku, and was part of Macho Man's groupie stable.

I’ve got to research but it looks like the “Augusta tapings” were actually held in Savannah, Georgia (hence the large neon SCAD sign around the 10 minute mark of the video). Madusa was not "off TV after 2000". she appeared all the time on TNN, and later SPEED Channel, in Monster Jam! in late 1999, PACE motorsports, who owned the Monster Jam promotion at the time, signed a deal with WCW to run 6 trucks under different names like Goldberg, Sting, the NWO, Nitro Machine, Bret The Hitman Hart(cancelled after his concussion), and Madusa. Debra herself ended up driving the truck for it's entire stint as a regular season entrant from 2000. after WWE bought WCW and ECW in 2001, she stayed in the monster truck driving gig, grabbing the 2005 World Finals Racing Championship in very muddy and difficult conditions! against the reigning champion Grave Digger, too! she also managed a 3 way tie in freestyle the previous year. she later "defected" to team Bigfoot in 2007, who used to be the WCW team in the 90s before leaving Monster Jam in 98. monster trucks and wrestling used to be intertwined, whether hardcore fans of either sport liked it or not lol

By Shawn's own admission, in meeting with Vince and Triple H over Brett refusing to drop the title to Shawn, Haitch labelled Blayze as the reason they had to take the title off him. This was after being encouraged to speak up, and Shawn said just double cross Hart, screw him. Jim Cornette also suggested a screwjob. Now this might seem like Shawn being Shawn and remembering it wrong, or "remembering" it wrong, lying. I point to evidence of Triple H being portrayed as the instigator of forcing Brett to do business, such as in WWE 13, as evidence that yeah, he is comfortable with whatever legal challenges there might be, he stands by defending the title's image. Mick Foley also voiced how there were concerns Hart could be made to drop the title in the rubbish, citing Blayze as the instigator. Remember he quit over the screwjob and was later talked into coming back.

I am a faithful WWE guy and even I have to say that this is all on Vince. WHY would you let her keep the damn belt? This is on Vince McMahon for sure. I also dont think it was THAT big of a deal. Not many people would even know what that title was. It showed up so little and got no build at all means it was probably not recognized by very many people at the time so it likely had very little meaning in the wars Imo and I dont blame Blaze(Medusa) at all

I feel like a lot of the more recent comments on the controversy is hindsight. After getting thrown by the wayside on more than one occasion, she was more than willing to toss it. Her comments would have had more oomph if she had been honest and told the audience that she was fired while she was champion. Even with the billions involved in wCw at the time, the title would likely not have appeared purely for the legal hoops they'd need to jump through.

They knew the ramifications of Madusa doing what she did from the Big Gold belt ordeal and did it, how in the bloody hell does that destroy the Screjob narrative in any way? Like legit that was the most insane broken cricular logic ive ever fucking heard. We know Vince had a thousand options other than doing what they did in Montreal, but no this in no way shape or form destroys the argument, thats just pure logic fail.
