As long as betting exists this problem will never be solved.
@MM-bx1ei

Problem is not betting, problem is lower ranked players are not getting money because tournaments are stealing away money from the totality of the players in the first place. Slams share %15 of their revenue and they earn €1,1 billion in a year. And it's like %19 for ATP tournaments which earn €563 million annually. Obviously it's more of an issue with slams as they earn more but give less percentage but those are pathetic, disastrous revenue sharing percenateges nonetheless. This is why Pospisil's vision consists of increasing revenue via negotiation and funding ITF circuit players who lose money on the tour and have to revert to match fixing to literally continue their career. If players are able to at least double their revenue sharing percentages, then significant step would be taken to solve the problem of match fixing.

@zee_12 3 жыл бұрын
@@MM-bx1ei don't disagree at all, this should be happening but I can guarantee you if there's any money on the table somewhere it'll be taken. My take on it is as it currently is, you already know prehand what is the projected prize money and expense for the Futures tournaments, many players including myself knew where this is going and that you need to invest not make profit in this phase. I quit early but I also happen to grow up with the two brothers mentioned here and am telling you it's not always about having enough money to survive on the circuit, the temptation of making an extra dollar will never go away. Again am not in anyway against increasing the prize money and have a proper ratio between expenses and returns but don't expect betting to slow down one bit. The concept of betting itself is flawed and at it's core destroys any fair competition.
@memememe843
@memememe843 3 жыл бұрын
@maccajoe agree. No one has successfully made corruption go away, and higher pay at the lower levels would be good for a bunch of reasons, but that won’t stop some players who know they will never break the top 50 from cashing in. It just needs to be policed as well as possible. I do think higher pay for those starting out or competitive but lower ranked would be great for the sport, but I am not sure the tournaments are necessarily holding back. Putting on those tournaments seem expensive as heck. The venue, the people, the marketing, the food, and much more. A lot of expenses there.

15K ITF Tournament, prize money 15 000 dollars. Tournament winner earns 1/6 of the prize money or cca 2500 dollars, minus taxes that's 1500 netto. He must win 5 matches to earn 1500 dollars. Imagine you are number 345 and play against number 758. Odds before match are 1,15-- 4,50. If you win first set 6:2 , odds will be 1,02-- 12,0. You (your brother, trainer) just needs to bet 200$ on your oponnent, you lose on purpose and you won 2200$ netto (2400-200), that's more than tournament winner

Wrote a research paper on performance enhancing drugs in tennis in college in 2012, definitely very interesting as well. It must be rampant, as with match fixing, just so many players, only so many players able to be drug tested/ able to be caught for fixing, masking agents for performance enhancers exist... Not just steroids, there's "blood doping" / other kinds of strength and endurance enhancers. Could go on about it, only so many have been caught/ called out on it, and of course the ATP looked the other way / dropped all charges when the legendary 90's-early 00's player tested positive for a banned substance because he denied it (one that probably does more harm than good, and maybe in grand scheme of things we should admit most of them must be on something/ even established players having multiple coaches/ endorsements/ nutritionists, etc. are unfair advantages against up and comers... But what can you do. Still funny to think for how "clean" the sport is perceived as over the years, the deeper you dig, is very not... Still yes, it is an entertainment product for money, above all, whether it has as much integrity as they want/ need it to appear as or not

I assume most matches of tennis and football are rigged, so I normally bet on the opposite of what the hive mind thinks. I am both a gambler and a tennis fan. The most unfortunate part of match fixing in tennis is that, if done correctly, it is completely undetectable. The examples covered in this video were sloppily organized by wannabe low-level mob guys who didn't cover their tracks. A sophisticated operation bets on the other guy as well. Not only does that lower any red flags, but it even helps the fixers as they will get better odds on their guy. The inherent greed of stupid criminals is the only reason we know about these instances. There are countless others we do not know about and will continue to not know about.

One other thing -- I hope people don't watch this and immediately start thinking that any comeback in tennis is a sign of match fixing on the part of the losing player. Sports are sports, humans are humans. Blowouts happen and comebacks happen. A true fixed match usually does not include any type of drama or comeback. You get in, do the job, get out and get paid.

Match fixing in tennis has been around for a while. Bobby Riggs had a bad gambling habit and had a history of tanking matches. Because of his gambling history and his oddly erratic play in his match against Billy Jean King, it's no wonder why many think that match was highly suspect.

As a professional tennis coach, I can say many shady things happen in our sport. Silent bans for PED’s, match fixing, etc. I know a few players who have been banned, but have never been up close and personal with anything like it. Most of the guys who do it are struggling monetarily and are trying to make a living. The need to raise the prize money at the lower levels is very much needed.

This is absolutely 100% going on in every area of tennis especially the ATP. I watch a lot of tennis matches and it almost always goes to a 3rd set. it's not as simple as lose win betting. There are so many live bets that can be done and it is all absolutely rigged to a certain extent. Players always ironically lay back in the 2nd set and lose after they just won the first set 6-1. Doesn't make sense at all. Theres no stopping it either. Disappointing and it's pretty much stealing

I agree it happens a lot but equally winning a set 6-1 and then losing the next set 6-1 is very easily done when the margins are so small in tennis. Just because a player is dominating the first set it doesn't necessarily mean they will dominate the whole match. It's no different to football when the momentum swings in the second half and fixing a football match at the highest level is almost impossible

Your video just came across my KZbin feed. Very well done! I remember clearly that incident with Davydenko. When you don’t hand over your phone, what does that say? At minimum very suspicious. Amazing thing is he, like you say, was Number 4 in the world at the time, making a lot of money. Have no idea why he would even consider match fixing.

The same logic should be applied to reality TV too. They should be jailed for fixing events since they are marketing their shows as unscripted spontaneous events.

In general it is easy to fool tests as long as you train in a country that won't test you. Let's say you take PED once per year during off season and travel to Nepal or something (excuse can be to get better training due to altitude). During that time you do a lot of physical exercises. When you return the PED is undetected but you have got incredible and permanent physical results

Some 'facts' mentioned in this video regarding the Davydenko - Vassallo match are incorrect. 1. Everybody who traded this match on betfair in 2007 knew Davydenko had problems BEFORE the match started. Because the odds of Davydenko winning the match had moved from 1.20 to 1.70 before the match. 2. The reason was later revealed. Davydenko had a foot issue and had told one of the physio the evening before the match that he was not able to play 3 sets with his aching foot.

So Davydenko was cruising vs a player he was supposed to beat, money was being placed on the minnow and then out of nowhere Davydenko quits, and yet he wasn't found guilty? That literally sounds like the easiest case to solve. I feel like in a lot of these circumstances, the governing bodies hide/cover up evidence as a way of saving face. I think the same happened with Lance Armstrong. He was almost too good for the sport from an image/money point of view to out and ban. It was ultimately the people who he was bullying to go along with his cheating that brought him down. After all, he never apparently failed a test. If you're not good enough to be making money from what you're doing, quit and do something else. To somehow use sport as a way of earning illegally is unforgivable.

Also Slam's matches are fixed. It's very common, they do it also to abbreviate matches, they could agree to play a 3 set match in a 5 set matches. You can see the level of attention going down and stuff like this. Tennis is rotten.

This isn’t surprising. When you pay shit to low ranks they have to find other means. Match fixing in tennis is not out of greed it’s out of need for survival. Go look at Noah Rubin and his documentary on rise in suicide cases cause the ATP refuses to pay low ranked players. No other sport has players begging for pennies out of top 100. However in tennis if you are out of top 100 your basically broke. Think about that before you judge these players. It’s a complicated issue people.
