This is very helpful. I am so glad I found your video. I am applying to county for an internship position and its population is very divers (e.g., Low SES, high acuity clients, multicultural, clients in the judicial system etc.) and I need to work on becoming more aware on this. I will be sharing this video with my ms clinical counseling cohort. Thank you, Meyleen!

We need this now more than ever 6 Asian women were targeted and murdered in Georgia on March 16th, 2021. Asian- Americans have reported over 4000 cases of hate crimes nationwide since March of 2020... if these victims can't turn to a culturally competent therapist, what does it say about this country? We have come across countless licensed therapists who failed to do what you preach, over the last 30 years in the states. Befire that, we didn't even try to look for a culturally competent therapist. And, even in the last 5 years, it's been really hard finding a culturally literate and competent therapist. Still unable to find a therapist who is willing to admit they don't know and are humble enough to learn about themselves and the client. Racism by the therapist is rampant.

This is a very unfortunate truth in the mental health field. I appreciate your comment.

@@MeyleenVelasquez you're welcome. And When you tell the next therapist you interview that you experienced racism or microaggressions from your previous therapists, they look at you like you have 3 heads. They gaslight you and deny you the truth. Since when is the truth not acceptable??!! THIS IS WHY people are messed up. When they find out that telling the truth gets them punished. And, then , people dare ask, "Why can't you just find a therapist???!!!" Wtf. Appreciate your reply.
