Caleb needs to own a lot of those sacks, but yes Poles absolutely deserves blame for this o-line. After signing Keenan Allen, Rome was a luxury we couldn't afford in that premium draft spot. Definitely missed a trade back opportunity for the best interior o-lineman in the draft..

People fail to realize in Fields 2nd yr Poles tore down the entire team. Had EQ, Pettis and Mooney as receivers but still showed progress. He never had a fair chance in Chicago. Thats why people like me wanted to the haul to build the trenches. Fields is still in rookie deal, if he didn't play well this yr. Draft a QB and have a good o line for him to play behind.

@@roddyb5310 A lot of his stats are in garbage time when teams are playing basically a prevent defense. Why is it that in the first half he's awful? Then in the second half he comes alive? It's because generally they are so far behind that most teams let off the gas pedal. When it matters, he's mostly bad. A lot of stat padding happening. Regarding the being soft part, I'm not saying he's not physically tough. I've seen him take shots that would bench a normal QB. And yet he walks away from them. But mentally, he looks overwhelmed and dejected. It makes you wonder if he just thought that he was going to walk right through the competition. This is the NFL, even the bad NFL players are incredibly good at football. He was coddled too much, and made a captain of this team based on what? Talent? Hope? If you are going to be a leader of the team, you have to be mentally tough,you have to be a leader. And you can see it on his face that he's not. I'm not saying he can't be a good QB, I'm just saying that he doesn't seem to have that IT factor that great QBs have. It's not physical talent. It's something else, and something rare.

Caleb is physically tough for sure, and can take wicked hits that most people wouldn't walk away from. But mentally he isn't seeing the field, and more importantly he's showing signs of being defeated. If you're just a guy, it's different. But when you're the face of a franchise, you'd better stand tall and strong. Guys on the team see that, and it demoralizes them.
