My parents are from Japan, when we had an earthquake (USA) I freaked out and hid under the dinner table, sort of like what school taught me. After collecting my thoughts I looked out from under the table and both my parents were just standing there shaking along with the earth flipping through the tv channels seeing how bad it is and then laughing saying that it’s only a 3.5 mag earthquake 😂
@DeadlyCyanide1
@DeadlyCyanide1 Ай бұрын
Lol 😂😂😂😂 that's adorable. Your parents are a good example for you. I imagine it's like that for a little kids in Japan as well they probably get really scared but they see their parents not caring and as they get older they don't care either. Every time I've had a earthquake that I felt and it's very few and far between this is in New Jersey Pennsylvania area I've always just sat there going wow this is an earthquake and then I wonder how strong it is going to be lol. In this area it's really not going to be big if there's an earthquake so I personally don't find a worry in it but I know a lot of people panic for sure.

That is correct. I am Japanese and currently living in Tokyo. In today's terms, I am over 13 years old. Having experienced the magnitude 9.0 earthquake in March 2011, and with the recent frequent occurrence of magnitude 4-5 earthquakes, especially in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japanese people are not that concerned. In other words, they often do not notice when the magnitude is below 3. (Or perhaps Japan just has too many earthquakes. ......) Well, after all, Japanese buildings will not collapse unless an earthquake of magnitude 9.5 or greater occurs. Even the huge Nankai Trough earthquake, which is predicted to be the largest ever, is 9.1.

People in the US who are actually from the areas with earthquakes don't either. Only outsiders experiencing an earthquake for the first time do. I find it hilarious when people on the east coast are like "yeah I can deal with hurricanes but earthquakes terrify me." Hurricanes last for days and can leave you without power and flood your house. Earthquakes are just some mild shaking a few seconds.

I live in the Philippines and around 2019 there was a time when earthquakes happened every few days for about 2 months. At first everyone was panicking but then we got used to it. A relative was printing at my house cuz they didn't have a printer when an earthquake happened. A pretty strong one too, with hanging objects swinging strong. Dunno what level that is. Our conversation "Ah? Is that an earthquake?" "Yeah." "We should probably get out of the house" "Yeah. Lemme just unplug the electronics (just in my room) first." We walked out normally and sat in an open space outside commenting on how this was a stronger one than usual and looking fascinated at the swinging object.

Honestly, that’s really not far off 😂 Earthquakes are way more common some places in the US, like California for instance, which is where I grew up. I could not tell you how many earthquakes I’ve been in. Dozens at least. But it’s never not scary 😂 even the little ones we get in Montana every once in a blue moon. In the 16 years I’ve lived here in Montana, I’ve only felt 2 earthquakes, and the rest I just never noticed, didn’t even wake me up.

I live in North California and we have 4.0’s quite frequently and I don’t even feel them and then my family from out of state asked me about the earthquake and I say what earthquake. Well, one time we had a really big earthquake at like two in the morning and it scared me know every time I hear a iPhone yes alarm I get PTSD.

The last time there was an earthquake in my country was on 2015. I was 9 years old and I actually live in with my cousin for a month as a school holidays. I never felt anything since me and my cousin were asleep at that time. Especially my cousin's older sister, she felt the earthquake but it wasn't that strong as she mentioned Idk about my hometown place situation, maybe the earthquake levels could be around level 1-3 (Since the earthquake was originally at Kota Kinabalu and it killed people who was trying to climb the mountain too) Kota Kinabalu beautiful structure was half gone due to that incident (I think it was the ears...? I just read it on Google but I tend to forget about them easily)

Okay I don’t remember the holiday or the month, but I remember going to my Uncles for a holiday vacation, it was awesome we drove from Indiana to California it was amazing, on the last day we were there we were in my uncles apartment and I remember waking up it was like late morning, and I just remember looking down and I see people are walking around everything and then like the room I was in started to shake a little and then a lot, and the people just started to run around the streets and I was so lost, I honestly thought a volcano had erupted or a bomb went off 😭

US needs to really invest in early earthquake warning systems like Japan has. Even Mexico is ahead of us in that department. At least California claims to be trying lol.

After surviving a devastating earthquake last year that killed more than 50 thousand people in Turkey, I have Japan's reaction to earthquakes under a magnitude of 5. I make sure my phone alarm goes loud if a possibly life-threatening earthquake starts. Yet, I still sometimes wake up in fear and tears thinking an earthquake is happening.
