Excellent video!, I didnt know you could put the flies in a bug blade dusting before adding to new culture!

Absolutely! We try to get ahead of those pesky critters as much as possible :)

@@JoshsFrogs Im confused cuz the description on the purchase page says "spread a thin layer of Bug Blade around the base of your vivarium and prevent escapee fruit flies from crawling to freedom!" this seems like contradictory information to then say its ok to put them in the bug blade before starting a new culture... can you please clarify this information!

followed directions and got mold in cultures. I stirred the culture after because a large amount of it was dry on bottom as well. But left on shelf and hadnt used in a couple days and molded.
@Goju_ninja4 жыл бұрын
After creating a culture and waiting the two weeks, does this culture continue to breed for an extended period of time as long as you don’t exhaust all the flies each time you do a feeding? And should you periodically water it by spraying every couple of weeks to keep the moisture level up? Thanks!

Hi so I built a really large habitat with living plants and everything for my baby praying mantises and I have the fruit fly culture that you gave me I was thinking about making a secondary container and just leaving it in the mantis habitat with the culture at the bottom and ways for the flies to get out I mean as long as I remove it every two weeks maybe do you see any problem with that I want to be able to have a continuous food supply for the mantises.

Just got my cup of “fruit flies” but it’s all larva…which most dried out, and look like cooked maggots…what do I do????

Do you dust Vit A on the fruit flies? If so how often? Thanks.
@JoshsFrogs5 жыл бұрын
It depends on what you're feeding them to - what kind of animals do you have?

@@JoshsFrogs dart frogs. I dust mine with vit A every 21 days. I dust with the other vitamins every feeding. Thanks

why are you putting the flies in the boiling hot container? :(
@JoshsFrogs5 жыл бұрын
Don't worry - Charlie is a pro! If you take a look at the timestamps, there's more than 90 seconds between adding the water and adding the flies. With the media absorbing the water fairly quickly and a decent surface area : water ratio, it cools down enough to be safe for the flies :)
@lokirathehunter5 жыл бұрын
@@JoshsFrogs oh that's awesome! I've always waited a day, glad to find out I can add the flies just a few minutes later!

Josh's Frogs actually I did the same thing and a bunch of the flies died the moment they touched the media
@RaizARukis4 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing... Usually with boiling water, I thought it took about an hour or so to cool enough at room temp without harming the flies?
@dartfrog-pet42874 жыл бұрын
lol. Should always wait till it cools and also helps with prevent high humidity levels as well when capping off.

My cultures usually tend to have a strong odor once opened. Is this common or am I doing something wrong
@JoshsFrogs5 жыл бұрын
Are you using Josh's Frogs media or another kind? Typically our media doesn't have a foul smell until after the culture is done producing (~4 weeks from starting).

They stated the protein is not ideal for Melanogaster flies. The Melanogaster formula though is good for Hydei too.

I received my order of fruit flies,it appears it wasn't kept in an upright position,because the stuff on the bottom has covered the sides of the container,my questions is does the affect the hatching process?

@pinkspaghetti13 жыл бұрын
theres tons of recipes that work fine, you could probably try any of them, but you should buy their mold inhibitor and add that to whatever you mix. mold is always the #1 issue and its a life saver!

So we just use regular boiling water?

RO, or spring water best for all things dart frogs and their feeders. (They dont have chlorine or contaminates.)
