New Bioactive DART FROG Vivarium!

This poison dart frog tank has been such a long time in the making! Watch as I set up my first out of 4 bioactive vivariums for my new reptile and ampbian rack in my fish room. This bioactive vivarium will house my group of 4 Dendrobates tinctorius Patricia, along with their insect cleanup crew of isopods and springtails. The vivarium has lots of live plants and plenty of leaf litter hiding places for the frogs. Check back for a special bonus video tomorrow of the frogs exploring and settling in to their new home!

you planted the phalaenopsis upside down, you want the crown to face down so water doesn't collect in it. That tank likely doesn't have enough air flow though since the whole thing is basically sealed so most epiphytic orchids might not be a good, Maxiliarias or Dracula orchids like those conditions how ever but they get really big. if you do plan on making a chameleon enclosure orchids do very well in them

Did you go into kinda a slump after your divorce, if so how did you manage to get out? Asking because after mine two years I've just kinda been in this basic routine and evertime I seem to be coming out of it life slaps me back down somehow. Honestly, no. I got married at 19 and was unhappy in my marriage for a number of years before finally calling it quits. So while it was a very difficult life change to go through, it actually felt freeing. Just my experience though, I'm really sorry to hear you're having a hard time. Sometimes when I'm in a slump it helps to focus on a fun hobby or make more time to spend with good friends and family.

I almost got bakhuis for my first frogs but found cobalts and had to have them, they are both very similar coloring as your patricias. I got hooked and now have 5 groups and six vivs. Cobalt, azureus, vanzolini, auratus Rio cascajal, and of course luecs. Great video.

just like you, my divorce kept me from reconstituting my frogs. i still want to do bumbles and blues. i did false bottom as well. they bred like crazy. The bumble singing in the morning was delightful.

Jenny,don't use your finger to smooth silicone or get it on your skin,it is carcinogenic and the fumes it gives off when it's curing are fairly nasty as well,use a tool or rubber gloves.Great video,I think what you do is fantastic,keep up the good work.✌👍😊

Your Phals will go through an adjustment period. Be patient, they can adapt. I have friends that have made it work. Just placed higher up to allow a bit more drying.

Useful information! I used to keep fire bellied toads and newts along with pythons, corn snakes, and hognosed snakes. I wish I would have had this information back then. I believe the more natural the terrarium the happier and healthier the pets..thank you.

How does the ventilation work in your vivarium? I'm researching all the information that I can get about poison dart frogs, but the terrariums I find online often have a mesh lid or atleast partially mesh. I think some ventilation is important, but too much would mean that the humidity would escape too fast. And the feeder insects would probably also escape.

Hey Jenny, if you want phalonopsis to grow in your vivarium, get a flask of clones off ebay and plant directly from the flask into the vivarium, they will take, as they are raised in high humidity in the flask

Getting to this video a little late, but if your mini phalaenopsis didn't make it in your vivarium, and you would like to still keep a showcase plant, other orchids like Masdevallias, neofinetia falcata or neostylis would love the high humidity but will stay pretty small to fit in your tank They're kind of specialty orchids, but there are tons of online retailers and even some sellers on eBay I bet you could find.

tip for the waste water, if you have extra potted plants you can use that same water and it's kind of like a natural fertilizer given you don't spray chemicals in the tanks

If yOu put the orchid in with a cup of orchid moss around the roots to keep the water near the roots. Also vary the light to its specification at night it should do fine. JUst make a cloth nesting pot and hammock it in there. And feed it cricket calcium or frog mineral water or something safe for the tank.
